00:00So, what would you girls say are the first signs of skin ageing?
00:07I'll take the shot.
00:08Yeah, go for that.
00:09So, it tends to be around your early thirties that we start to see those fine lines creeping
00:16in, dehydration, depletion on skin, laxity, we start talking about the jowl area, all
00:24of the signs of just dullness and your skin just doesn't feel like it did yesterday.
00:32And that's when I think that you start to really see signs of change, generally, as
00:37I say, around early thirties.
00:39But they're minimal, they're just changed from being lovely and bouncy and 20.
00:44Yeah.
00:45What's your take on that sign?
00:46Yeah, I agree.
00:47I think I've also kind of had quite a lot of kind of youngsters or teenagers and particularly
00:53also boys who just don't really have a routine at all because they don't think it's particularly
00:58that important.
00:59And I think if you start quite young, and it doesn't have to be a complicated thing, but
01:03just, you know, maybe just a gentle cleanser and just something to hydrate your skin, that
01:09will make such a difference.
01:10Because I'm touching a lot of people's skin, straight away I can feel it.
01:15And I, bless him, I had this like 21-year-old and I went, whoa, you need to wear some
01:19moisturiser
01:20on his skin the other day.
01:22And he was like, well, do I?
01:23And I was like, yeah, what do you do?
01:24And he's like, I run.
01:25And I was like, well, then you need SPF as well.
01:27I was like, this is going to help you so much when you hit my age, you're not going to
01:31look
01:3178.
01:32I was like, come on.
01:34And it's like, it's just something that really simple doesn't have to be crazy, doesn't
01:38need to be 25 steps.
01:40But just if you can just at a young age, like early twenties, just get into that, then it really
01:45will help, I feel the skin can look really good and hydrated.
01:50So when you start noticing the first signs of ageing around early thirties, what can you
01:56do to minimise those signs?
01:59There is quite a lot that you can do, especially at this age.
02:02We can bring it back pretty fast.
02:03We're very bouncy, the scaffold into our skin.
02:05Yes, we lose 1% of collagen out of our skin as the years go on, but we're still in
02:10the bulk
02:10of the collagen so we can bring it back.
02:12So particularly just trying to enhance your routine, get to know your face as well.
02:17There are so many of my clients that will not look and stare at themselves in the mirror
02:20and get to know your concerns.
02:23Feel what changes are bothering you.
02:26Then you can have a look at your lifestyle, your food, your water intake, your gut health.
02:32Make sure that you're internalising that goodness as well as the outside.
02:35The skin is our biggest, most incredible organ.
02:39So it is showing what's going on in the inside as well as the outside.
02:43The effects on our environmental stresses as well are there, whether we wear SPF, whether
02:48we've looked after our skin up until this point or not.
02:51Then I would say you could visit a facialist or an esthetician, get them to take you through
02:56a consultation, make some suggestions.
02:58Unless you're a researcher and you want to do it online, we know there is so much information
03:03online and then get some guidance.
03:06Then I would look at making sure we're incorporating key elements, key elements such as hyaluronic
03:11acids, niacinamide, the simple ingredients that are just going to put the goodness on the
03:16surface.
03:17Remembering that as you're 30, there are only surface issues.
03:23So making sure that we are drenching the skin hydration, vitamin seeds, peptides, collagen
03:29enhancers, all of these key elements incorporated into your routine will quickly bring your skin
03:35back.
03:36Having a facial just to bolster it, then going home and using your skincare products at home
03:41to just have that maintenance.
03:42Because as much as I am in clinic and I'm an in-clinic facialist, a client can come and
03:47see me.
03:48But actually at home, what routine and what ingredients in your products you're using at home is the
03:53main bulk of it.
03:54So I can only do so much.
03:56It's then up to you, so making sure that you're using those right ingredients.
03:59We can suggest what you should be using, what your concerns are.
04:03Facial massage, just trying to get that fresh blood flow to the surface, using tools at home.
04:09Your hands are your best tools, they're free.
04:12Having gua sha at sessions at home, LED, at home lasers.
04:17There is so much we can do.
04:19And like you said, it doesn't have to be lots of time.
04:22It's just choosing the elements that you need.
04:26Also try not to get too easy these days with social media and things like that.
04:31Because you see someone using a serum or a moisturiser and you're like, oh, I need to
04:36have that.
04:36And it's like, that's all very well.
04:38I see it a bit like fashion.
04:41It's like, I'd love to be able to wear that dress.
04:42But realistically, that's just not my shape.
04:44And I feel like people need to remember that also about their skin.
04:47It's like everyone's skin is really different.
04:51And it really does depend.
04:52Like, I wouldn't use the same foundation on all of us.
04:55You know, I have to really look at the skin to see what's best for it.
04:59And I think as soon as you understand your skin, are you a bit dry?
05:02In the summer, do you get a bit oily?
05:04Like, where is...
05:05A lot of people go, oh, I'm really oily.
05:06And you go, well, you're not.
05:07You're just oily on your teeth.
05:08And that doesn't mean you've got really oily skin.
05:11So it's just really understanding and taking that time to also change your routine a little
05:15bit.
05:16Maybe it's different in summer to winter.
05:17That's okay.
05:18It's not always going to be the same routine throughout the year and the same age.
05:22I'm not using the same products I did when I was 20.
05:25But, you know, so it's kind of, you have to evolve.
05:27It's very similar.
05:28I see it a bit like a fashion thing as well.
05:30You know, you don't wear the same clothes that we wore in, like, 1995, even though they're
05:34coming back.
05:35You know, you kind of have to progress and try not to get too dominated by so much of what's
05:40around you and what's trendy.
05:41Just really concentrate on what's best for you and for your skin.
05:45And I think that will really help.
06:15Yeah.
06:17So that's nice.
06:17You put a lot of things in your face.
06:17Get some erythema, some facial massage, get some blood flow at the surface.
06:21Use a really great product.
06:23I feel like you can create dewy skin, especially with, like, the lotion from the Hadalabovage.
06:27That lotion gives you a glass of water drenched on the skin and it easily absorbs, it's effortless,
06:34it feels great, it's silky on the skin and then lock in the hyaluronic acid properties
06:39with a day moisturiser followed by SPF, dewy skin.
06:44Yeah, it really does. It's really that simple.
06:46I mean, when you do just using those three products, especially from How to Lab It,
06:51you are 100% going to get that bouncy texture.
06:53I always say to people, like, once you've done your moisturiser, I want your skin to feel quite bouncy and
06:59tacky.
07:00That's kind of the ideal kind of texture that you want before you put your foundation on.
07:04Because a lot of people think, oh, it's fine, I'll just slap on any moisturiser, it doesn't really matter
07:08because my foundation will do it. That's never going to be the key.
07:12In fact, I've often said to people, we need to get you into a really good skincare routine.
07:16I need your skin to be bouncy.
07:18Before they come to you.
07:20Way before. Like, it all starts with skincare, for sure.
07:22And that's why I do love the lotion, because for me, it's very quick, which sometimes I need to have
07:29that.
07:29And you can layer it.
07:30Absolutely.
07:31That makes such a difference.
07:32And it doesn't peel under makeup, which is brilliant.
07:34But it does instantly, like you say, give you that kind of boost of, like, drink of water that your
07:38skin needs.
07:39But it's quick, so I can, like, I know what I'm putting on someone's skin is really hydrating and healthy,
07:44but then I can also do my job of doing that.
07:47And it is looking at labels.
07:48Yeah.
07:48Like, most of them will say, like, hydration, dewiness, plumping.
07:53Like, it will have that all in the label.
07:55So it kind of does say it if you read it.
07:58And ingredients-wise, hyaluronic acid, it's really important.
08:02Yeah, hyaluronic acid and niacinamide, those kind of base ingredients are almost like, I try and explain it as like
08:08the builders of your house.
08:09Yeah.
08:09You don't see the bricks.
08:11You don't see the scaffold into your house.
08:13Yeah.
08:13But you know it's there because the house is standing.
08:16It's the same with our skin.
08:17It's like the scaffold into our skin.
08:19It's putting the cushion in and it attracts water.
08:21But you do need to lock it in.
08:23So having a water-based product that sucks water, we put it on damp skin, we put it on the
08:28skin, press it in, then lock it in with a moisturizer that's auto-water-based, like a hyaluronic moisturizer.
08:34I know the day cream's got hyaluronic in it.
08:37Lock all that goodness in as well, and then you get that really juicy effect on the base.
08:41Yeah, definitely.
08:42And what about evening out your skin tone and brightening it, so some more sort of surface texture?
08:48What are your tips there?
08:50I feel like that's a different conversation for me.
08:52So dewy skin and brightening is very different for me in particular.
08:56I would say that brightening is consistency.
09:00Brightening is having that beautiful skin that you're happy with, that beautiful texture, that bright lip from within glow when
09:07you have nothing on your face.
09:08And then you build on top of it to create the dewy effect.
09:12So brightening the skin is a few elements.
09:14It would be making sure you're gently buffing the skin, getting rid of dead and dull cells that are laying
09:19on the surface.
09:20I think that's a really big key.
09:22A lot of people don't do that.
09:23Yeah, it causes so much dullness, doesn't it?
09:54Yeah.
09:55It causes so much dullness, doesn't it?
09:56And it doesn't sit properly.
09:57Yeah.
09:57And your skin drinks it as well.
09:59Your skin will drink your foundation.
10:00A lot of the time people are like, I put on foundation this morning and it's completely gone.
10:03It's like, well, that's because your skincare is...
10:05It's using it as hydration.
10:06It's so thirsty, it's literally drinking everything.
10:08So you need to up your skincare routine and the hydration in it.
10:12Yeah.
10:13And layering as well.
10:14Layering is a great one by layering hyaluronics, including vitamin A, so your retinols into your routine.
10:21That will help just with cell turnover.
10:23Yeah.
10:23Because as we get older, our cells slow down, so we hold onto dead skin cells.
10:29They cause that bond on the surface.
10:31And unless we're stimulating that cell turnover again with a gentle exfoliant or a retinol ingredient,
10:37you're then not going to get the efficacy of the flooding of the products like the hyaluronics as well.
10:41You're not going to get them into the skin because they're going to sit on the dead cells.
10:44Yeah.
10:44So they're all kind of, they all play an element in the brightening of the skin.
10:48And then, of course, what you can create with makeup is just incredible.
10:52It fascinates me how if you have a really great base skin, what you can create is, yeah, amazing.
10:58Yeah.
10:58But you have to have a good base to start with.
11:01It doesn't, it's not just, you know, pans, not wands, as we always say.
11:06I've got to, you've got to work with me.
11:07I've got some wands.
11:08I've got some magic wands at the end of the round.
11:10The gel holes together would be great.
11:12Yeah, so it is tricky.
11:13But that's why I really love these products because they're also very simple.
11:16Yeah.
11:17And it says it on the tin in that way.
11:19Yeah.
11:19And I really like that.
11:20Yeah, you can't go wrong really.
11:22No.
11:22And the textures I also feel are really appealing to everyone.
11:27Yeah.
11:27So like, I would always go for something quite rich and creamy normally.
11:31Yeah.
11:31But actually because I'm layering, I actually don't want that texture too much.
11:36Yeah.
11:36And I find with these, especially the lotion has more of a watery kind of serum-y feel to it.
11:41Yeah.
11:41It really goes in.
11:42And then you've got the gels textures, which I really like to layer.
11:46Yeah.
11:46Whereas if you're doing kind of like a serum-y water texture and then a really heavy cream,
11:50it can sometimes feel a bit funny on your skin and it feels like it's, you know, not dissolving that
11:55well.
11:56Yeah.
11:56Whereas I find with these ones, they just work really well on top of each other.
11:59I love these textures, particularly for day, they're really, really good.
12:02Yeah.
12:02I agree.
12:02They are very easy and wearable.
12:04Yeah.
12:05Yeah.
12:05And then finish it with SPF.
12:06Oh, so talking about SPF.
12:08Oh yeah.
12:09When do you apply it in your layering and how often do you reapply it?
12:15Yeah.
12:15So, I always, it's the final product before makeup.
12:19For sure.
12:20I know you use the SPF as a bit of a primer as well.
12:22Yeah, I do, depending on who it is.
12:24The one thing I love about this one is it's a matte finish.
12:27Yeah.
12:27For me, that was a really big thing.
12:29Yeah.
12:29Because when you've gone through a lot of products, so say like I've done the lotion,
12:33then I've done the cream, eye cream, then you're like another thing on top.
12:37Yeah.
12:37But actually, I love it because it's got a matte finish, which is great for guys too.
12:42Because otherwise SPF can be a bit shiny.
12:45And I feel like a lot of men can be put off by that, if I'm honest with you.
12:48Plus, the residue that some of them do leave, you quite a white kind of finish.
12:52Yeah.
12:52It does dissolve after a while, but this one is brilliant for that.
12:55So, no white cast.
12:56No white cast.
12:57Yeah.
12:57Literally, it's so good.
12:58It's water resistant.
13:00It's an SPF 50, so you are protected for that much longer.
13:03Yeah.
13:04I mean, I literally, as soon as my skin feels hot, I reapply sun cream.
13:08So, I probably much do it like in half an hour.
13:10If you're in direct sun, then every couple of hours.
13:13A couple of hours, yeah.
13:14And then if you're not in direct sun, and then you, of course, you've got makeup on,
13:17it does become a little bit more difficult, then you need kind of more of a travel product
13:21to top up.
13:22Yeah.
13:23Hopefully not in direct sunlight anyway.
13:25Yeah, exactly.
13:26Most people wear it.
13:27I mean, people are really good these days about wearing hats and things like that.
13:30We're so much more conscious.
13:31We're so much better than we were.
13:33Yeah.
13:33But I just, I do think that that one is a particularly good one.
13:36I also do put it on scars and stuff like that as well.
13:39Yeah.
13:39I really like it for that because it's a high SPF and it's not going to irritate the skin
13:42or anything like that.
13:43And it's just a really, really good, I was, the matte finish for me was great.
13:48And it's not like a kind of chalky matte.
13:50No.
13:50It's like a lot of them can be.
13:52Yeah.
13:52It's a really lovely kind of creamy texture that absolutely comes, you know, goes to
13:58your skin tone, which is great.
13:59Brilliant.
13:59Okay.
14:00Lastly, in terms of your own self-care, what are your non-negotiables?
14:05I was going to say, my partner, it has to be, he brings me a cup of tea every morning
14:09and that, I can't not have a tea in the morning.
14:12It just doesn't work.
14:13Can't function.
14:14No.
14:14I just have to have a nice cup of tea.
14:17And also, if you're doing very early mornings, like, you know, I've got to be quite chipper
14:20to people.
14:21No one wants a miserable makeup artist.
14:23So unless I've had a cup of tea, that's what I can't get in the day.
14:26And I'm also, that's like morning and then night, I'm a bath girl.
14:31What kind of bath?
14:32Oh, any kind of bath.
14:34I love an oil.
14:35I like bubbles.
14:36I like a milky bath because I feel like Cleopatra.
14:39Salts.
14:39Yeah.
14:40Salts are really good, especially if you're achy.
14:42Yeah.
14:43But I do like something that makes my skin feel, because I, again, I've got quite dry
14:47skin.
14:48So I do love the feeling of having, my skin feels really hydrated and moisturised when I
14:53get out of the bath.
14:53I don't want to have to put cream on top.
14:55Oh, no.
14:56So the bath's got to do the job.
14:58Oh, yeah.
14:58I wouldn't be able to get out of a bath.
15:00No.
15:00That body product.
15:01Are you?
15:02Yeah.
15:03Yeah.
15:03I just, yeah, but if it's going to be like skincare wise, like I have to have moisture
15:10on my face.
15:11Like there's just no way.
15:12And also I've found that I really do like an eye cream product as well.
15:17Like if I don't use my eye cream for a while, I really notice it, especially because I am
15:21very aware of my age and getting older and fine lines and stuff.
15:25And also a lot of people skip kind of eye cream, which I find a bit frustrating because
15:30I'm like, you're still going to wear concealer and all of those products under your eye.
15:34And I do feel like you do need that base again for it.
15:38But yeah, just, I need the hydration for sure.
15:41Otherwise I just feel like tight and uncomfortable.
15:44What about you, Michaela?
15:46For me, it would be have to have an AM and a PM skin routine.
15:51Yep.
15:52I think part of just, I just had a two week break and I couldn't wait to get home to
15:57my
15:57room of gazillion products because I just was like, leave me for an hour.
16:02Yeah.
16:02I just need to be here for the whole hour because I missed it so much.
16:07An AM and a PM routine, it keeps my skin maintained, stable.
16:11I can really look at my concerns.
16:13And I do have changes in my skin, of course, but I'm kind of always there evening or morning
16:18to put that routine right.
16:20Yeah.
16:21And that concern.
16:22But I think a routine in the evening consists of a chamomile tea.
16:26I have to have a chamomile tea and that will be when I'm settled.
16:30I don't want to eat anything else.
16:32I don't want to drink anything else.
16:33It's just a chamomile tea and then go to bed.
16:36I massage my face in bed.
16:38I was going to ask you, so if you were going to like, if you're having a busy day,
16:42cause like we all think like, oh yes, take that time to massage your face.
16:45Realistically, when do we do this?
16:47It is one of the things that always slips for me.
16:49That's what I mean.
16:49At night time, or if I've got really bad sinuses, then I massage my face every day.
16:53You need to.
16:54Yeah.
16:54Then you've kind of forgotten.
16:55I know.
16:55We only do things when we need it, but it's in bed for me.
16:59Is it?
16:59And it's just a few minutes at night.
17:02Does the lotion work quite well for facial massage?
17:04Cause it doesn't.
17:05It gives, but also the night treatment.
17:07Oh, okay.
17:07The night cream is gorgeous to massage.
17:09It gives you enough slip to move around the face as well.
17:11And I can use some Gua Sha.
17:13And just having that blood flow helps the product to move around a bit longer,
17:16the warmth of the skin.
17:17Yeah.
17:18And I just rest my head on the back of the bed.
17:20And that allows me to really get some strength and movement into my face as well.
17:25What would be another non-negotiable?
17:26I did actually use that with my Gua Sha today.
17:29Did you?
17:29Yeah, it feels really nice.
17:31It's lovely.
17:32It does slip, slip it out.
17:33Yeah.
17:33Love that.
17:34Resting your head on the bed.
17:35I know.
17:35Yeah.
17:36Yeah.
17:37Consistency.
17:37Yeah.
17:38Just that is a non-negotiable.
17:40Consistency is key.
17:41What's yours?
17:43I would say chamomile tea as well.
17:45I love a chamomile tea and a stretch.
17:49I love doing a stretch.
17:50Even if it's in the middle of the day, like 10, 15 minutes, some sort of like yoga flow.
17:56Oh, wow.
17:56Something like that.
17:57That's good.
17:57Cause to sit at a desk all day, you just have to.
18:00Yeah, yeah, yeah.
18:00And water.
18:02Water, I think.
18:02Yeah.
18:03Yeah.
18:03No, that is good.
18:04Well, thank you ladies.
