00:25Who do you think has shaped me, nourished me, informed me?
00:29You know, from my mom, my gran, you know, my aunt,
00:32all these black women in my life.
00:33But then, in America as well, if you...
00:35I always tell people, if you truly want to learn
00:37about America, talk to black women.
00:42Yeah.
00:44Because...
00:46unlike everybody else...
00:50black women cannot afford to on and find out.
00:56Black people understand how hard it is
00:59when things go bad,
01:02especially in America,
01:03but any place where black people exist,
01:04whether it's Brazil, whether it's South Africa,
01:06wherever it is, when things go bad,
01:08black people know that it gets worse for them.
01:11But black women, in particular,
01:14they know what shit is.
01:17Genuinely.
01:18People will always be shocked.
01:19They'll be like, why do black women turn out
01:21the way they do in America?
01:22Why do they vote the way...
01:22Yeah, because they know what happens
01:24if things do not go the way it should.
01:26They cannot afford to around and find out.
01:28And to black women who have taught me,
01:30all of them, I mean, the scholars online,
01:32the, you know, the authors, everybody,
01:35the Roxanne Gays, the Tressie Macmillan Cottoms,
01:37the, you know, I'll remember the names,
01:39you know, the Zoe Tammuzis,
01:40the, like, brilliant, brilliant women
01:42have taken the time to inform me,
01:44to educate me, to argue with me.
01:47You know, the Tarana Burks, who, you know,
01:50who laughed with me, talking about everything
01:51from sexual assault to just what life is like.
01:55Yeah, man, I'll tell you now, do yourself a favor.
01:57You truly want to know what to do or how to do it,
02:01or maybe the best way or the most,
02:02the most equitable way, talk to black women.
02:06They, uh, they're a lot of the reason that I'm here,
02:09and so I'm grateful to them.
02:11I'm grateful to every single one of you.
