00:01Royals baseball this afternoon from Coffin Stadium in Kansas City where the Royals are
00:05still looking for a win on this homestand after falling to the Giants last night 2-1.
00:10The timing is not great with the Royals losing five in a row. They've only scored 13 runs during
00:15the losing streak. However, they've only been outscored by seven, which shows you how close
00:20they are breaking out of this. It's Brady Singer on the mound for the Royals, his 31st start of
00:25the season. He has a .353 ERA. Grounded to Salvi, and he goes to the bag for out number one.
00:32Good timing, Hud. Man, his hands are so soft. What an athlete. He just loves to play.
00:37That's a hard, but like a junior. And being the first and only right-handed batter to go in the
00:42McCovey Cove.
00:43So Yastrzemski and Ramos are gone, and up comes Lamont Wade.
00:47Deep down the right field line, way back there. Goodbye!
00:52Over the bullpen, and Lamont Wade Jr. has his second career home run against Brady Singer.
00:59He was the only Giant currently on the roster who's ever homered against him before, and he didn't waste
01:03any time in losing that one. The Giants hitters, first two, Yaz and Ramos got out, but they hit the
01:08ball hard, and Wade does the same. And he didn't see that pitch at all.
01:12The Giants get a run on Lamont Wade Jr.'s home run.
01:16Now it's Landon Roop, only his third career start. Most of his time with the Giants in
01:21this rookie campaign has been out of the bullpen.
01:23Here's Frazier against Landon Roop. First ball swinging. Turning one way, back the other,
01:28and then back yet a third spin before having to lay out to catch that one.
01:34That was like a Savannah Banana knuckleball right there. He went for one of the trick catches,
01:38and, you know, he's dealing with a little bit of the shadows. One of the hardest things is the line
01:42drive right at you.
01:43Did he topspin it? Did he backspin it? So you want to get back first. Turns around, oh, it's topspun,
01:48it's knuckling.
01:49He's out. That's what matters, George.
01:51One pitch, one out for Bobby Witt Jr.
01:54Right-hander deals, and Witt lines it hard into left field. That's extra bases.
01:59Bobby around first, on his way to second with a double.
02:03So Witt doubles to left. He represents the tying run here in the first, and up comes Michael Messi.
02:08A foul tip into the glove of Casale. Right to the shortstop.
02:14And Fitzgerald throws him out. So Witt Jr. hits a one-out double. He is stranded.
02:19So a couple of walks. Melendez to lead off, and now to Isabel to bring up Michael Garcia.
02:26Garcia grounds it to third. Chapman will run to the bag in front of Melendez, and that's the inning.
02:32So at the end of two, San Francisco leads 1-0.
02:35We went to bed on Saturday night a week ago in Pittsburgh.
02:38The Royals' magic number was seven.
02:40They were right on the edge of sweeping the Pirates, beginning this stretch of 15 games against teams that would
02:46not be in the postseason.
02:47And here we are a week later, and the Royals have just reduced their magic number by one in a
02:52week.
02:52And that's only because Detroit lost last night.
02:55It has not gone the way that man Matt Crottero has wanted to go, that's for sure.
03:00But they still have time to right the ship.
03:01Lamont Wade Jr. takes a strike from Brady Singer.
03:04Wade gave the Giants this one-nothing lead with a home run back in the first.
03:09Lamont Wade, who homered his first time, deep down the right field line, and he does it again.
03:15Another home run for Wade.
03:17He's seen three pitches from Brady Singer and has hit two of them out of the ballpark.
03:22This one, a soaring, majestic drive down the line, and it is two-nothing Giants.
03:29This is just a beautiful piece of hitting right there.
03:33There's ball one now inside to Matt Chapman.
03:36Deep center.
03:37Isbell back.
03:38All the way back at the wall.
03:40Goodbye!
03:41Another home run.
03:43Back-to-back and cheek-to-cheek.
03:46Wade and Chapman both go deep.
03:49Three-nothing Giants.
03:50The dad's strength has been activated.
03:53Baby Gia has been born.
03:55Papa Chapman goes yard.
03:58And this time, another slider, and the shadows are gone.
04:02Royals have a man in scoring position with one out on the wild pitch.
04:06Well, the Royals have stranded a runner at second base
04:09in all four innings today.
04:11One and one on Bobby.
04:12Popped up.
04:16Chapman makes the play.
04:17Two down.
04:18On the ground to Wade.
04:20So, five consecutive innings with a runner in scoring position,
04:24but Landon Roof has held the Royals scoreless.
04:27Here's Matt Chapman, who homered in his last at-bat.
04:30Chapman into left field.
04:32Deep.
04:33Way back there.
04:34Goodbye!
04:35Over the centerfield wall.
04:37Kind of an off-balance swing.
04:39And the Giants have their fourth solo home run.
04:43Two from Wade, two from Chapman.
04:45And that one's got to be frustrating for Brady Singer
04:48because Chapman was reaching and off-balance,
04:51but he got it up into the wind and into the Giants' bullpen.
04:54Down the right field live by Conforto.
04:56That will go into the corner.
04:57Up against the curved wall out there.
05:00Frazier gets it back.
05:01And Conforto with a stand-up double.
05:03Giants brought their extra base hit bats out tonight.
05:07Four home runs.
05:08Base hit to left field.
05:09Gave another slider.
05:11And, man, he ripped it.
05:13Stopping at third.
05:14Conforto had to kind of freeze to make sure that was not going to be caught by anybody.
05:18Officially the end of the afternoon for Singer.
05:21Seemed like Freddie going out there was partially to buy Carlos Hernandez
05:24a couple of more pitches in the bullpen.
05:26And now Singer's day is done after five and a third innings.
05:29He's allowed four runs on four solo homers.
05:32And he exits with runners on the corners and one out in the top of the sixth.
05:37Carlos Hernandez is coming in with the Royals down 4-0.
05:40And there are runners on the corners with only one out.
05:42Grant McRae is the batter.
05:43Fastball bounce to first.
05:44Salvi backhands throw home.
05:47And now Conforto's caught between third and home.
05:49Throw back to third.
05:50Garcia runs him toward the plate and tags him on the numbers.
05:54But the Royals get the second out without a run scoring.
05:57And now it's runners second and third.
05:59They were able to get an out, but you've got to run him all the way back to third.
06:03Let's play here.
06:04Conforto stops.
06:05Run him all the way back.
06:06And that way if you run him all the way back to third base,
06:09that other runner's going to stay at second.
06:11And he's hit on the leg.
06:13Ouch.
06:13He has done a great job of masking the pain.
06:17Bases are loaded.
06:18Kirk Casale, the batter.
06:20Pop fly.
06:21Shallow left.
06:22Base hit.
06:23And two runs will score.
06:26Seventh and eighth RBIs by Casale who reached out and doinked one in there.
06:31It's elevated.
06:32It allows a hitter that's hitting 182 to knock in two really important runs.
06:37So the Royals are down 6-0 in the top of the sixth inning.
06:41Runners on first and second with two outs.
06:43First pitch to Mike Yastrzewski.
06:45Yes.
06:46Deep right.
06:47Frazier back.
06:49At the wall.
06:50Adios!
06:52Pelota!
06:53The fifth home run of the day for the Giants.
06:57It is 9-0 San Francisco in the sixth inning.
07:01Well, the sliders is not working for either Singer or Hernandez.
07:04Right field to left field didn't stop that at all.
07:07Eighteenth home run.
07:08Bottom of the ninth.
07:09Nine to nothing.
07:10And Uli Gurriel will lead off to the Royals.
07:14Tristan Beck is the new pitcher.
07:16A swing and a broken bat.
07:17Ground ball to third.
07:18To his left.
07:19Casey Schmidt gloves it.
07:20And a throw on to first in time.
07:23As for Mean, a pop-up.
07:25First base side.
07:26Lots of room for Wade and foul ground.
07:28He makes the catch.
07:30Two down.
07:31And that puts it into a frustrating Saturday afternoon at Coffman Stadium.
07:38Where the San Francisco Giants have clinched the series.
07:41Two to one last night going down to the wire.
07:44And there was no drama today.
07:46The Giants win 9-0.
07:48For Landon Roop, that's a Major League win.
07:51His first.
07:52Back-to-back first wins for two young rookie pitchers for the Giants.
07:57And what a clean game.
07:58This has been a beautiful road trip there.
08:00It's all coming together.
08:01The Giants playing probably their best baseball of the season right now.
