00:07faster and faster. So welcome to Hello Let's Gab. How many now? I actually can't keep track.
00:15I think it's probably about 12 of these. Anyway, welcome. Thank you so much for tuning in as
00:20you seem to do every Friday, which is lovely. We're live here over at Hello Magazine. I'm
00:29gorgeous Tamsin Althwaite. She's going to be chatting to us about a show that she's been
00:34doing in lockdown. Plus, I think we'll be talking about live theatre quite a lot because also
00:40my other guest is the wonderful Kimberley Walsh. Now, she's not just a pop star. She's not just
00:45a musical theatre star. She's not just a presenter. She's got her own company. So much to talk
00:50to her about as well. Plus, as always, Melissa Hemsley will be giving us her snack attack.
00:56And I know that there's one particular snack tonight that she is doing that I cannot wait.
01:02I cannot wait to try straight afterwards. It's to do with ice. It's quite warm. It's quite
01:09warm out there. Anyway, here she is. Tamsin Althwaite is here. Let's get her on board onto

01:28Hello. Welcome to Hello Magazine. How are you?
01:32I'm really good, thank you. I've come on sporting my... The show must go on.
01:37I've been wearing mine all week. I've been telling everyone to get it. You know what, Tamsin,
01:44let's go straight there. Welcome to the show. Let's go straight there. You and Kimberley will
01:48both feel very passionate about this. The news this week about theatres can open, but
01:54with no live shows.
01:56Yes, but on a positive note, I know that needs to... It needs to happen at the beginning.
02:01On a positive note, I think that it's going to start picking up very soon. We've seen some
02:06things recently about things starting to happen. It's not all being pushed back till next year.
02:13I think things will start picking up this year towards the end of the year. My fingers are
02:18crossed. And when it does come back, it feels to me like because of what's happened to the
02:21theatre community, it's going to be huge. It's going to be quite emotional, I think.
02:27Because the whole experience of live theatre and that shared experience, I think is quite
02:32an emotional thing to go through anyway. And I'm just so excited about how it's going to
02:37come back. At the moment, I'm disappointed that we're not being supported enough, but
02:44we've got through an awful lot as an industry. And the show must go on. That cliché does exist
02:51because it's what happens.
02:54Absolutely. And of course, and that's why we're all wearing our T-shirts and everyone
02:57can go and find out more about it. But the big thing about theatre is that everyone has
03:03this idea that with live theatre, with live music, with live performances as a whole, oh,
03:09well, the people who are performing and entertaining, they're all rich. It's fine. They'll be fine.
03:13You know what? It's not like that. You get your pay when you do your job. Also, all the technical
03:20staff, the wardrobe people, front of house. I mean, there's so many people.
03:25It's a family and it's a huge industry. And there are a lot of people I know that only work
03:30in theatre. You know, they don't work in TV and other genres. They just do theatre. And
03:36the jobbing actor friends of mine that, you know, we're already in precarious situations
03:43as an actor because you never know when your next paycheck is coming from. So now to have
03:48this situation where everything's halted, I mean, it's going to take a lot of spirit and
03:53a bit more help, I think, from the government. And then I think we'll be all right.
03:59Sorry. You were, oh, I can hear your dog. Sorry.
04:02Is everything all right?
04:04Yes.
04:04You were actually going to be in a show.
04:08Yes.
04:09When lockdown happened. So talk us through that.
04:12So the Seagull, Emilia Clarke, Indira Varma, Tom Rees-Harris, Patrick Robinson. I mean,
04:18it really, all the Jamie Lloyd Company, a host of brilliant actors, Sophie Wu, Danny Ashok.
04:24And we were at the Playhouse and we'd done five previews, Gabby. So we kind of knew that
04:31we were onto something special and it was quite magical and everyone in it so good. And
04:36working with Jamie was incredible. And then to have after five previews before we got to
04:41the press night for us to go dark was quite heartbreaking. But I also know we will be picking
04:46up. We have been, we've had that confirmed that it's going ahead as at the same, as the
04:52same as Jessica Chastain's Dolls House is also going ahead. So Jamie Lloyd's company is picking
04:58up where he left off. We're not, we don't have a date, but it will happen and it will happen
05:03with Emilia Clarke. So I'm really happy about that.
05:06That must be, I mean, I, cause I know we know each other in real life as well, out of
05:12side
05:12of the screen. And I know how you were so excited about doing that show. I haven't seen you like
05:18that. I mean, you were really buzzing and your eyes were bursting with excitement. And
05:24that's fantastic to hear.
05:26Well, I love theatre and I don't do it enough. You know, I'm sure everyone could say we don't
05:31do it enough, but it is the reason that you started acting. It was theatre. I didn't train
05:36in telly. I trained, you know, as a theatre performer. So it's lovely to go back there.
05:42And it sounds like a cliche and a little bit cheesy, but it does feel like you're going
05:45home. So for the next thing I do to be a theatre thing would be wonderful. I mean, there's
05:51other things in the pipeline. All sorts is happening. Dumb breeding has got legs to have
05:56a new life somewhere else.
05:58So what's happened with that? Let's talk about that because of course you've been
06:01making, for people who don't know about this, they have to go and watch it. But tell everybody
06:05about Dumb breeding.
06:06So it's about, Julie Graham's written it, it's about five, six women, all not in lockdown,
06:13all going through the menopause together. Very funny and raw and honest and truthful, all
06:20about how you feel when you're going through the menopause that's never talked about. And
06:25as a woman of a certain age, it isn't represented very much on your mainstream television.
06:30So Julie wrote this brilliant piece and got six actors together. And we all filmed in our
06:39own homes and we filmed with our partners filming us with our kids playing off parts on parts.
06:46I mean, Robin Shepard directed the first eight episodes and then Angela Griffin made her debut and directed the very
06:53last one, which is wonderful. So she had a great opportunity. And it's on YouTube. All nine episodes are now
07:00on YouTube. They are between 10 and 15 episodes. It's called Done Breeding. D-U-N-B-R-E-E
07:07-D-I-N. And we've finished it now.
07:10And it looks like it has legs. And we've all fingers crossed that we're going to be commissioned to actually
07:17continue making a series.
07:19We never talk about lockdown while we're doing it. So you never know. So it's cleverly done the way she's
07:26kept people in FaceTimes and but six women chatting to each other about what they're going through. And, you know,
07:33it's funny.
07:35So instead of it being, you know, a tragic stigma that's attached to the menopause, making it humorous just seems
07:47to kind of lighten it somehow. I suppose like with everything, if you if you laugh about something, it feels
07:53less stressful.
07:55And I think that's what everybody needs. And I like the fact that you say there's no mention of lockdown,
08:00even though we're still, you know, I personally, the pictures of all the beaches and I know you've been posting
08:05about that.
08:07Just what is everybody doing? They think it's a conspiracy theory and it's all over.
08:12Yeah. And I also think a lot of people think it's done. But I do think if you're in cinemas
08:18and theatres, if you all were wearing a mask, I don't understand.
08:22Whereas on the beach, no one's going to wear a mask.
08:25And they're all kind of clothes.
08:27And they're really close together and they're swimming and sweating.
08:30And so in my head, I think with precautions and wearing a mask, I would be really happy to go
08:37and sit in a theatre with another thousand people with your own space like this, with gloves and a mask.
08:42Yes.
08:43Yeah. And but everybody going out to the beaches and jumping on top of each other.
08:50And it's just crazy. I think people are very confused.
08:54You've you in some ways you've had a very good lockdown.
08:57I know it's a strange thing to say, but you've kept busy, haven't you?
09:02Done breeding saved my sanity because I was starting to head south and thinking what, why, you know, because it's
09:10natural, isn't it?
09:11To feel quite loved about the situation.
09:17So when done breeding started, when Julie first called me, I was like, this is a really good idea.
09:22But I didn't expect it to happen straight away.
09:25We started filming. A light arrived and an iPhone arrived and a tripod arrived.
09:31And then suddenly we're going, everyone be quiet.
09:34We just want to get this scene.
09:35And, you know, it was a learning process from the very first episode right till episode nine.
09:40It got better and better and better.
09:42And we got more used to it, the style of it.
09:44And now I watch it and I'm really proud of it, really proud of all the other women.
09:50Denise Welch, Julie, and, you know, Tracy Ann Oberman.
09:53You know them all.
09:54Alison Newman.
09:56And then Nicola Stevenson came in and played a part.
09:59Nimi March, Steve Edge.
10:01We had some really good actors.
10:03And to do that in your own home, first of all, you're like, oh, but the background's a bit messy.
10:07I better do that.
10:10Or you just tidy one area, you know, so that you could just film there.
10:15But then you started realizing, actually, it's not about you having a show home.
10:18These are meant to be real people in real homes.
10:20So I then started messing it up a bit.
10:24And, yeah, I just, we just really enjoyed it.
10:27I mean, to be honest, it would be really lovely to do it and be in the same room with
10:31all the girls.
10:32And be able to hug each other and actually talk to each other and touch each other, you know.
10:36So I struggled.
10:38We'd have our Zoom meeting, our Zoom rehearsal.
10:41And it's just a weird way of doing things.
10:43But it felt like quite revolutionary in the sense that it was the first thing to be filmed during lockdown.
10:50And I think it's great.
10:51I mean, I've watched it, as you know, and I think it's wonderful.
10:54I think congratulations to all of you.
10:56But also, on a home front-wise, you've got your dad.
11:01I've got to say you've got your dad in the garden.
11:03That's a strange thing to say.
11:05But he's not actually, he doesn't live in the garden, but he lives in a house in the garden.
11:09Separate dwelling.
11:11But, yeah, at the end of the garden, in a lovely, I don't know how you'd describe it, cabin.
11:18Wood cabin.
11:19It's wonderful.
11:20It's wonderful, but so lovely for your girls to have their grandparents so you could see him and see he
11:25was OK.
11:25Because I think a lot of people found that so difficult.
11:28Yeah, of course.
11:28But, you know, we go in the garden.
11:30We still keep our distance.
11:31He has an area of the garden where he sits, but he can sit and watch them playing.
11:36Lovely.
11:36And, you know, I can make food for him and I can go out and get his stuff.
11:40Really, for a man of, you know, that age, I think it's probably the best situation, the best outcome of,
11:47like, how lockdown could have gone for him.
11:49Because if you were on your own in a bungalow where he was before, that would have been tricky.
11:55You know, it's very lonely for a lot of people, I think.
11:58It is.
11:58I think a lot of people have really suffered with all of that.
12:00But your girls as well.
12:02Your girls have been amazing because they helped you out with filming.
12:04And it's nice.
12:06And Marnie played the young Indy, so the young me, in the very last episode that dropped on Thursday.
12:13And it was just so lovely.
12:15It's like having a bit of history, I suppose, that you'll always have.
12:18Oh, that's so lovely.
12:20I've just got to tell you that Rosie Nixon, who's the editor-in-chief of Hello.

12:27She's just said, she said they'd like to come and do, that's so lovely, they want to do a Hello

13:36I saw her in Big, the musical, on the press night.

13:44An absolute, I mean, she's one to watch.
13:46I think she'll have a career in whatever she wants to do forever.
13:49I know.
13:50She's wonderful.

13:57We have to get that out of the way.

15:08I'm really well, thank you.
15:10And you must be very happy because of the announcement you put today on Instagram.
15:15I know.
15:16I can't believe what brilliant timing this was.
15:19We planned this weeks ago.
15:20I've actually got something to talk about now.
15:23Tell everybody.
15:23So, I'm very, very happy to say that the musical that I was just about to open in, Sleepless
15:32in Seattle, the musical, at the Wembley Troubadour, has now been given dates to open, which
15:38are the 25th of August.
16:10Oh, fantastic.
16:10We'll be in stage four or five, where we will be able to have socially distanced audiences
16:15inside the theatre.
16:17That is fantastic news.
16:19It must have.
16:20Same for Tamsin, because as she said, she did five performances, five previews.
16:25And then the show that she was so excited about didn't happen, but it will be happening in
16:30the future, which she's heard, which is great news.
16:32Great, yeah.
16:32But for you, it must, for both of you, that feeling of being, that excitement, and then
16:37suddenly, well, it's not happening.
16:38It was literally like the worst point it could happen.
16:41We had just done our sits probe, which is the first sort of sing-through with the orchestra,
16:46which always gets everybody so excited and, you know, everybody in that zone to like
16:51plow on to tech and get the show up and running.
16:53And then it literally, obviously, lockdown happened the day after.
16:56So, we didn't actually do any of tech.
16:59We just saw our beautiful set in all its glory, and then we didn't really get to spend any
17:05time on it.
17:06So, it was a tough time for lockdown to be called in our, you know, for us.
17:11But I think when we left, we all just had this feeling and hope that we would be back
17:16and that it would feel even more special to perform again after everything that's happened.
17:21And we had no idea what was coming.
17:23And it really is going to be, I mean, it's just going to be incredible, actually.
17:28Am I going to cry when I come to see it?
17:30Because I cry in film.
17:32I think you will, to be honest, especially with the sort of tough few months that we've
17:37all had.
17:37And the nature of the story is basically about bringing a family together, mending a family
17:43and anything where there's a child in it just absolutely breaks me.
17:47So, even though I'm in it, I struggle to watch the kids, the kid with Jay, obviously,
17:51who plays Sam, because it's just so heartwarming.
17:53But it's a real feel-good show.
17:55I feel like it's just what people need.
17:57A little, yeah, a couple of hours of escapism in the theatre.
18:02Oh, my goodness.
18:02And we're more than happy to be the ones performing first.
18:05Oh, we all do need it.
18:07And my heart breaks, as we were just saying with Tamsin, and I've been very vocal about
18:13it, but it's the performers and the stage crew and the technical people and the front
18:18of house.
18:19And it's just tough for anybody.
18:21It's so, so tough.
18:22And I think we're in a very privileged position in a way that we're at the Wembley Troubadour,
18:28which is a huge, you know, very well-ventilated space.
18:31It wasn't a traditional theatre.
18:33It was a TV studio.
18:34So seats can actually be removed to enable, you know, a metre plus social distancing.
18:40They can do temperature checks on arrival and all of that.
18:43We've got a huge outside area, loads of toilets.
18:46And I think that is the real problem with the West End theatres and why, obviously, it's
18:51very hard to get these shows back up and running, because they're such hard venues to work social
18:57distancing in too, but hopefully we can pave the way and show that it can work and everyone
19:02can be safe and enjoy going to the theatre again.
19:05So the ticket's out there for sale?
19:08Yeah, they're on sale as of today, yeah.
19:11Some people, obviously, had already booked and just pushed them back.
19:14But yeah, they're on sale now.
19:16We're doing a special gala performance on the 27th for NHS staff, so they can apply for
19:22a free ticket online on the website.
19:24And I just actually don't know how I'm going to get through that performance.
19:28The thought of performing for like, I don't know, 200 NHS workers after everything that
19:34we've, you know, they've been through and we've all been through, will be very, very
19:38emotional on top of the emotions that you get anyway doing a show like that.
19:42So how have the past 14 weeks been for you, apart from obviously the Sleepless in Seattle
19:48stuff, but how's it been for you as a family and at home?
19:53So once I kind of got my head around the show and it's like, OK, this is lockdown, I think
19:59I just got into a bit of a flow for a while.
20:01I mean, the weather's helped everyone, I think.
20:03It's been glorious.
20:05Obviously, it's been tough trying to homeschool Bobby.
20:08He's five, so he's in reception.
20:10And at first it was all a bit of a novelty and it's great, like having his teacher, you
20:15know, as his mum.
20:16And then as it goes along, they're a bit more resistant, like now it's like a real struggle
20:20to get him to engage in any of that.
20:22But they've had the best time, like the two of them together, Bobby and Cole, just building
20:28dens, doing stuff that kids do, having both of us around every day.
20:32They've just loved it.
20:34And I have had a really lovely time.
20:36The majority of it has been actually really lovely.
20:39Of course, you miss family and friends, but you get in a zone, don't you?
20:43Well, you went out.
20:44We saw you together.
20:46You and Nicole, that must have been.
20:49It's that weird thing when you see a friend and then, but you can't actually hug yourself.
20:54I know.
20:55You go, but I'm actually getting used to that and not even doing it anymore, which is so
20:59unlikely.
21:00I'm the most huggy person ever.
21:01Like, I'm so overly friendly, tactile with people that I'm really having to be like, no.
21:07But just, yeah, I mean, she was isolating on her own for weeks.
21:11That's true.
21:12She's been incredible.
21:13She's literally my hero.
21:15So to actually see her in the flesh and have ice cream in the sun, albeit socially distanced,
21:21was very lovely.
21:22Isn't she?
21:23But she's going to the West End as well.
21:25Well, she had just opened Institute of Angels, so she's one of the shows that are still working
21:30through it, I guess.
21:31And I didn't get to see her, which I'm gutted about, because I heard that she was incredible
21:36and the show was brilliant.
21:38And I'm just praying that maybe our shows don't clash this time, because they were actually
21:43clashing before, and then I can go and see her as much as I want when it does finally
21:47open.
21:48Well, don't you surprise?
21:49I think, obviously, she didn't surprise you.
21:51Did you know she was behind the mask?
21:53Yes.
21:54Literally.
21:55Literally, I heard one line, and I was like, what's Nicola doing on the mask?
22:00But I know her voice almost as well as my own, to be honest, because when you're in a recording
22:04studio for, like, 15 years or whatever it is, you know every single inflection.
22:09I was so proud of her, and she couldn't tell us, and I didn't want to put her in that
22:14position.
22:14So it was just a really, like, elephant in the room every time I saw her, because it
22:18was quite obviously her.
22:20What a voice.
22:20We had done a strict contract, obviously, not to tell us.
22:24But, yeah, I was like, should we get together and, like, have dinner on this particular
22:28night?
22:29And I knew it was the final, and so we actually were together with a load of friends to celebrate,
22:35and I was crying my eyes out.
22:36It was very emotional, actually, because all she loves to do is sing, really.
22:40That's all she wants to do, and she's blooming good at it.
22:43She really is.
22:44Well, you all are.
22:45Actually, lots of people on here, your super fans, all want to know if there's going to
22:49be a 20-year reunion, because that's coming up very soon.
22:5220?
22:53Yeah, gosh.
22:53Is that going to happen?
22:55I don't know.
22:56We don't have plans in place now, but it's still a couple of years away.
23:01I mean, so many people are asking me at the moment that it almost makes me think, oh,
23:05would that be a nice thing to do?
23:07Like, I think, I just think no one really cares about girls allowed anymore.
23:10Oh, no, they do.
23:12They really, you should see this.
23:14They really do.
23:14Yeah, I mean, I love, I absolutely love the group and the girls and everything that we
23:20stood for, and I'd love for my boys to see what I actually did.
23:25So, who knows?
23:26Do it.
23:27Maybe if everything aligns right, then it'll happen.
23:31I told you, one of your songs, just when I work out, I listen to Girls Aloud.
23:36Yeah, I love it.
23:37They do work out songs.
23:39It's fantastic.
23:40I love it.
23:40I just listen.
23:41Do the reunion.
23:42We'll all be there cheering him on.
23:45And there's Rosie Nixon, editor, saying, we do care.
23:49Yes, she does.
23:50Rosie will be there.
23:50I know she will.
23:52I'll be sitting next to her singing along to every song, annoying everybody.
23:55So, with, and also the kids stuff.
23:58You're still doing all of that as well?
24:00Yeah, I've still got my kids wear brand that I'm trying to build, but I'm not going
24:04to lie.
24:05The virus has made that tricky, so we're kind of missing a season, and we're going
24:09to come back strong.
24:10I'm still learning about it all, but, yeah, it obviously did affect our factories and
24:15stuff, so we're just going to move forward with the next season.
24:18But that's a real passion project, because when you've got kids, that's such a massive
24:22part of your life.
24:23But I love it, and I do it with my brother, because that's what he does.
24:26So, it's our little family business.
24:28So, we do, yeah, we love it, and we are going to, yeah, we are going to keep moving
24:32forward with that.
24:33Good.
24:33Talking of the family business, though, you and your, I mean, your sisters, everywhere,
24:38one of you is in a show at some time.
24:40Would you ever go and do a soap?
24:44Do you know what?
24:45I feel like, because my older sister, obviously, she did a soap years ago, and Amy's in Emmerdale
24:50now.
24:50Do you know what I really want to do?
24:52I want the three of us to do something together.
24:54Like, can somebody please just write something brilliant, like an amazing play for three sisters,
24:59or...
25:00You do it!
25:00...that would have to be sisters.
25:02We'd all do it.
25:03We'd love to do it, yeah.
25:05No, but you should write it.
25:06Yeah, I should just find a writer.
25:07I remember you and I meeting up when you were first in Girls Aloud, and we sat there, and
25:12I kept saying, you've got to be a presenter.
25:15Let me explain, let me explain, because this was such a lovely thing that you did.
25:19So, Gabby got my details, called me up, and said, you know what, I'd love to meet you and
25:24just give you some advice.
25:25I think you're a great presenter.
25:27Things that you could do moving forward after Girls Aloud, which is just the most lovely
25:31thing for a human being to do ever.
25:33And we did, we met and chatted, and you gave me advice, and I'll never forget that.
25:38It's such a lovely thing to do, to actually reach out to someone who clearly is going into

30:47ice cube trays are great for maybe putting a little bit of, like,
30:50a rosé ice cube or a red wine ice cube,
30:52if you want to make a gravy or add it to a bolognese.

33:08or vodka or Prosecco.
33:10But those of us that don't,
33:11you can flex it up with sparkling water.

33:50So we talked about adding ginger in there.
33:51We could have added tamaric and cloves
33:53and all sorts of lovely things.
33:54My next one, ready to go, is this.
33:57Henry, can I have a little angle?
33:58I'm scared to drop it.
34:00These are roasted sticky nuts and spices
34:05with a good amount of, like, very nice sea salt
34:08and seeds on top and rosemary from the garden.
34:12So I use any old nuts and seeds.
34:16Amazing if you want to go through your cupboards
34:17and you've got a couple of cashews,
34:19some random scale pumpkin seeds.
34:21You toast them in the oven,
34:22either with a bit of butter or coconut oil
34:24or a bit of oil.
34:25If you can't bear the idea of putting the oven on,
34:28you could do it in a frying pan.
34:29Still hot, but over faster.
34:33And add some spices.
34:34So, Gabby, you and I were just talking about spices
34:37and how some spices can be cooling.
34:40Cloves, fennel, turmeric, chilli.
34:44I added them all in,
34:45and then I put a tiny bit of maple syrup towards the end,
34:48just a tiny bit, and the sweet and saltiness.
34:50I'm going to need to stop you.
34:51I'm going to need to stop you to go back
34:52because I've never actually done this,
34:55and I've always, I love eating them,
34:57but I've never done this.
34:58So you just get the nuts and the seeds
35:00and you put them in coconut oil in the oven
35:04with all of those spices at the beginning or afterwards.
35:07I, because I can't be bothered with messing around.
35:10I do them at the beginning
35:11and I make sure the oven's not too hot,
35:13so at about 180.
35:14If you start going towards 200,
35:15you might be in danger of burning.
35:17So I keep it 180.
35:19And what you can do is,
35:21again, if you're worried about burning,
35:22the bigger nuts, you can chop them,
35:24roughly chop them first
35:25so that everything's sort of the same size.
35:27And then you can add your rosewood sprigs in then
35:30or add some later,
35:32and then a little bit of maple syrup.
35:33Also, what's nice,
35:34nuts are expensive, aren't they?
35:36You can also toss in a tin of dried chickpeas,
35:41so cooked but then dried.
35:42So empty a tin of chickpeas,
35:44pat it dry with a dish towel,
35:46because if it's wet,
35:47it's just going to steam in the oven.
35:48Yeah.
35:48And then add it in
35:49and then you get like a bite of chickpea,
35:51a bite of cashewna,
35:53a bite of pecan,
35:54and you can add your za'atar as well, Gabby.
35:56You've got any left?

35:58I'm just,
35:58you know what,
35:59this whole thing though is perfect for,
36:01it's quite,
36:01and I know it's not hot everywhere
36:03throughout the UK
36:03and around the world.

36:12the drink and those nuts together,
