2 जून 2026 को Cell journal में प्रकाशित एक study में researchers ने planarian flatworms में एक नई cytotoxic glandular cell की पहचान की। इसका नाम रखा गया—Ruptoblast। Activin या ACT-2 signal मिलने पर यह cell कुछ ही मिनटों में फट जाती है। इस explosive cell death को researchers ने Ruptosis कहा।
यह discovery उस समय हुई जब Chew Chai और उनकी team यह समझने की कोशिश कर रही थी कि क्या दो genetically अलग planarians को जोड़ने के बाद उनका शरीर अपने और दूसरे tissue में फर्क पहचान सकता है।
