The photographs in this collection are from the official U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) photographic archive and document Border Patrol operations along the United States–Mexico border. The images cover sections of the border across California, New Mexico and Texas, recording the personnel, vehicles, infrastructure and working environments associated with CBP operations. Established in 2003 as part of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, CBP is responsible for border security, customs enforcement and immigration control at official ports of entry and along the areas between them.
The photographs show Border Patrol agents carrying out a range of operational activities, including vehicle inspections, roadside searches, patrols across rural and desert areas, the use of specialist vehicles and equipment, and the processing and transportation of individuals detained after attempting to cross the border unlawfully. The collection also documents the physical landscape of the border region, including fencing, patrol routes, access roads and the varied environments encountered by agents across the southwest United States.
The photographs are part of the U.S. Customs and Border Protection visual archive and were produced by photographers working within the agency. Photographers credited within the wider CBP archive include Jeff Underwood, Glenn Fawcett, Humberto Gonzales, Jerry Glaser, Mani Albrecht and Donna Burton. Their work forms part of the official photographic record documenting CBP personnel, operations, equipment and locations across the United States border regions.
