The Gypsie writer Mateo Maximoff (died in 1999) was passionated by photography & he shooted his friends, family, people, with a simple Instamatic Kodak but a great sens of light, colour, & composition. B & W pictures are from family collection by unknown authors. On first one we can see Mateo Maximoff as a child (right bottom). By making this film I tried to evocate tragic destiny of the Rom people, reminding me that it is close to my ancestors' one.
This film by Zelwer was created with Nouka Maximoff 's kind autorisation for the use of pictures, Alain Raemackers (LE CHANT DU MONDE label) 's kind autorisation for the use of the music : "Kiddush-ha-Shem" composed by Jean-Marc Zelwer, interpretation : LA KUMPANIA ZELWER tziganes imaginaires, "Daïssa" album- LCDM 2741196 - distribution Harmonia Mundi).

Nouka Maximoff is a Gypsie storyteller & she proposes regularly exhibitions of those pictures. http://www.myspace.com/noukamaximoff
