A Leatherback Turtle is the largest sea turtle in the world and one of the most extraordinary reptiles in the ocean. Unlike other sea turtles, it does not have a hard, bony shell. Instead, its back is covered by flexible, leathery skin with distinctive ridges running along its body.
Leatherbacks are incredible long-distance travelers, migrating thousands of kilometers across the world’s oceans. They can dive to depths of more than 1,000 meters (3,280 feet) while searching for food, with jellyfish making up a major part of their diet. Their streamlined bodies and powerful front flippers make them exceptional swimmers.
