Original Turkish Kumru Sandwich

Ingredients

For 2 Sandwiches

- 2 kumru bread rolls or sesame sandwich rolls
- 100 g Turkish sucuk, sliced
- 100 g salami, sliced
- 100 g sausage or hot dog sausage, sliced
- 150 g kaşar cheese, sliced or grated
- 1 medium tomato, sliced
- 4–6 pickled cucumber slices
- 1 tablespoon butter
- Ketchup, to taste
- Mayonnaise, to taste

Optional Traditional Additions

- Green pepper
- Turkish pickled peppers
- Extra kaşar cheese
- Spicy sauce

Preparation

1. Prepare the Bread

Cut the kumru bread rolls lengthwise without cutting completely through.

Spread a little butter inside each roll.

Toast the bread on a hot grill or in a frying pan until lightly golden and crispy.

2. Cook the Meat

Heat a frying pan or flat grill over medium-high heat.

Add the sliced sucuk, salami and sausage.

Cook for several minutes until the meat is browned and slightly crispy.

Sucuk releases its own oil, so additional oil is usually not necessary.

3. Add the Cheese

Place the kaşar cheese over the hot meat.

Allow the cheese to melt slightly, then mix everything together.

4. Assemble the Kumru

Fill each toasted bread roll with the cooked meat and melted cheese mixture.

Add tomato slices and pickled cucumber.

Drizzle with ketchup and mayonnaise.

5. Serve

Serve the Kumru Sandwich immediately while the bread is crispy, the filling is hot and the cheese is melted.

For the best result, prepare it on a flat grill and press the sandwich gently while heating.
