00:00For fans who hear the terms hernia and sports hernia
00:03used interchangeably, what is the difference
00:06and how might the type of procedure
00:08affect the recovery timeline?
00:10So one is the hernia you think of like your dad's friend,
00:14their bowel pooch through the abdominal wall.
00:17So intestines coming out, you can see it,
00:19you can push it down and you need to close that gap
00:22in the wall to prevent that intestine from coming out.
00:24That's what a conventional hernia is.
00:26For a sports hernia, something more
00:27that an orthopedic surgeon would deal with,
00:29that's when the abdominal wall actually separates
00:32a little from the bone that it's attached to in your pelvis.
00:35That is something usually due to the leg muscles
00:39or the adductor muscles pulling really hard on that bone
00:42in the opposite direction.
00:43And it's a tug of war that the abdominal wall loses.
00:46Jets head coach, Aaron Glenn, he's expressed confidence
00:48that Sadiq can be ready for the regular season opener.
00:51From a medical perspective, what would need to happen
00:53over the next several weeks for that
00:55to remain a realistic target?
00:56Any player trying to get back to competitive play,
00:58there's always the same sort of sequence that you go back through.
01:01So first you have to be able to have full range of motion and then full strength.
01:05So it's not like a joint, it's more the abdominal area,
01:08but he has to be able to stretch without pain.
01:10He has to be able to jog, run, sprint without pain.
01:14Once he can do that, then he can do non-contact practice.
01:16He has to be able to do that without pain.
01:18Then he can work his way up to contact-based practice,
01:21like actual scrimmaging.
01:22And then eventually he can get into game-ready positions and go into the game.
01:27But even then, he'd still have to probably be on like a minute's restriction,
01:30start early, see how he feels and take it week by week.
01:32And then he'll be able to go into game-ready positions and go into game-ready positions and go into
01:33game-ready positions and go into game-ready positions.
01:33And then he can get into game-ready positions and go into game-ready positions.
01:33He can use to keep my feet engaged in game-ready positions and go into game-ready positions.
