00:00This is the most dangerous child in the world. She is estimated to be only about 12 or 13 years
00:06old, and at first glance, she just looks like an ordinary girl of her age. But her future is far
00:12from ordinary. Someday, she might succeed her father, one of the most ruthless dictators of
00:19our time. In 2022, she suddenly appeared in public. Since then, she has been repeatedly
00:25seen with Kim Jong-un at military parades, missile tests, and official state visits.
00:33But why did North Korea suddenly reveal her to the whole world? Who is she, really? We
00:39analyzed many hours of videos, dozens of reports, and intelligence documents to gather all the
00:45information we could about her. This is the story of Kim Joo-ae, the young girl who might
00:52one day lead North Korea. But before we begin, if you're new to our channel, make sure to
00:59subscribe so you'll always be updated with videos like this.
01:04There is very, very little reliable information about Kim Jong-un's daughter. Most of our research
01:10is based on reports from the National Intelligence Service, or NIS, of South Korea. A thorough review
01:16of thousands of hours of North Korean state television broadcasts and a rare interview showed that in
01:22September 2013, former basketball star Dennis Rodman had just returned from his visit to North Korea.
01:31He met with Kim Jong-un and his family, and he shared his experience in an interview with The Guardian.
01:39Since early 2013, the two struck up an unexpected friendship, and Rodman repeatedly talked about
01:47it in public. Rodman also says good things about the leader of North Korea. We laugh,
01:53we sing karaoke, we do a lot of cool things together, and we ride horses, we hang out,
01:57we go skiing. On his most recent visit, Rodman said they vacationed with the Kim family by the seaside.
02:05According to him, they mostly talked about basketball. He also said that they discussed
02:10the possibility of a friendly basketball game between North Korea and the United States.
02:15They even talked about forming their own basketball team. In the same interview,
02:20Rodman also shared a surprising detail about the dictator's private life. According to him,
02:27Kim Jong-un has a daughter. She was still a baby at that time, and Rodman said that he was
02:32even
02:32able to carry her in his arms. He also revealed her name, Kim Joo Ai. However, it would take many
02:39more
02:39years before the world would finally see her face. In 2017, South Korea's National Intelligence Service
02:46released new details about the Kim family. According to the NIS report, Kim Jong-un has three children,
02:53a son born in 2010, a daughter born in 2013, and another child born in 2017 whose gender is still
03:01unknown.
03:02It is unclear why the alleged eldest son has never been seen in public. NIS suspects that he may have
03:09health problems, but Jay Woo Park, a journalist and expert on North Korea, has a different perspective.
03:15First, I met Dennis Rodman. Second, I talked with Kim Jong-un's childhood friend in Switzerland.
03:23He was invited to North Korea by Kim Jong-un in 2012 and 2003.
03:28And both of them say they heard about the daughter Kim Joo Hai and met Kim Joo Hai, Dennis Rodman
03:35specifically. But they never heard about a son, an older son. So that indicates, I think,
03:42there's something hidden, a son between Kim Jong-un and Lee Seo Joo.
03:47Ri Seo Joo is the wife of Kim Jong-un and is believed to be the mother of his children.
03:52Lee Seo Joo was
03:53first seen beside Kim Jong-un in public in 2012. By 2018, North Korea's state television began
04:02referring to her as the respected first lady. The Kim family is known for being extremely secretive
04:08about their private lives. Very little information about them gets out.
04:14But aside from reports from South Korea's National Intelligence Service, or NIS,
04:19satellite images also provide some rare glimpses into Kim Joo Hai's childhood.
04:24Her father owned several luxurious private estates in different parts of the country.
04:29The NIS believes that Kim Joo Hai is homeschooled in Pyongyang.
04:34This is where the main residence of the Kim family is located, known as the Ryong residence.
04:40It is also known as residence number 55. In 2018, a Russian photographer released photos of another
04:48luxurious property in the capital of North Korea. It is believed to be a guest house for important
04:55visitors of the regime. It is believed that Kim Joo Hai spends most of his time here.
05:00Kim Jong-un and his sister, Kim Yo-jong, studied in Switzerland.
05:07But Kim Joo Hai does not seem to have been sent abroad to study.
05:12According to Jae Woo Park, this may have been deliberate on the regime's part.
05:16And also, Kim Joo Hai cannot go to school with the other folks in North Korea because they
05:22they're going to be rumored and there's going to be special treatment for her. And people are going to be
05:28complaining about that. The Kim family also often spends time at their summer residences.
05:33One of the largest of these is located in Wansun, on the eastern coast of North Korea.
05:39It is said that Kim Jong-un also spent part of his youth here. And now, it is likely that
05:44his
05:45children are also growing up here. Within the vast compound, you can see various facilities, private
05:51beaches, guest houses, luxury yachts, and even its own train station. Dennis Rodman was also invited
05:58here before. And it was all his family, his friends and dignitaries and stuff like that,
06:03but we had jet skiing and everything. With the jet skiing, yes, but he had so much fun.
06:08Right next to the train station is a large area with circular sections of land. It looks like a horse
06:14riding track. According to NIS reports, Kim Joo-ae loves horseback riding. Horses play a big role
06:21in North Korean mythology, especially white horses, which are one of the most important symbols of the
06:27Kim dynasty. In addition, it is said that she also loves skiing. About 50 kilometers west of Wansun
06:34estate, there is a huge ski resort. According to the regime, it was built to boost tourism within the
06:40country. But for many critics, it is just a private resort for the Kim family and their close allies.
06:47Nevertheless, Kim Joo-ae seems to be more than just a child raised in luxury and expensive pastimes.
06:53Behind the scenes, the regime may already be preparing her for a bigger role in the future.
06:59This is one of the most important and largest intercontinental ballistic missiles, or ICBMs, in the
07:05world. It has a maximum range of approximately 15,000 kilometers, allowing it to reach the mainland
07:12United States from North Korea. Today, a test is being conducted on this missile. The regime
07:18carefully prepared the entire launch and even made a detailed video to show it to the public.
07:24State media declared that the missile test was completely successful. This was immediately noticed
07:30by the international media, but there was another detail that caught their attention even more.
07:35Standing next to the dictator was a young girl. This was the very first public appearance of Kim Joo-ae.
07:42The photos quickly spread around the world. The father and daughter were dressed casually as if they
07:48were just on a simple outing. But there was one photo that stood out to many. You can see Kim
07:54Jong-un and
07:55his child holding hands while standing in front of a weapon capable of causing massive destruction.
08:01From the very beginning, it was clear that Kim Joo-ae's role seemed to be more than just that of
08:07an
08:07ordinary family member. And in the following months, she drew even more attention.
08:14February 2013
08:16North Korea held a lavish banquet to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the Korean People's Army.
08:22The state media released photos of the lavish banquet. In one of these, Kim Joo-ae can be seen
08:29sitting between her parents, directly in front of North Korea's top generals. Because of this,
08:35Kim Jong-un seemed to become a secondary focus of attention. In many more photos from that night,
08:42Kim Joo-ae was the one who stood out the most. In North Korea, Kim Jong-un is considered an
08:48almost
08:48godlike leader. But in these photos, his child is at the center of the scene, as if she is now
08:54almost
08:55as important as her father. The next day, a massive military parade was held. Kim Il-sung Square in
09:03Pyongyang sparkled with lights as thousands of people surrounded it. The regime spared no effort to
09:10showcase their military strength. Every tank, every fighter jet, and every missile was paraded on a red
09:17carpet. At the same time, thousands of soldiers marched in front of enthusiastic supporters, and
09:23Kim Joo-ae was there standing beside her father, closer than ever. According to Jae Woo Park, no one
09:31else can hold Kim Jong-un's arm or whisper to him that closely. Kim Joo-ae is different. She is
09:37not
09:37an ordinary person. She can't even be compared to Kim Jong-un's wife. This shows how important she is.
09:45They watched together as the massive Hwasong-17 intercontinental ballistic missile passed by.
09:51After this, a white horse ran through the middle of the parade. According to the state media announcer,
09:58this is said to be the horse most beloved by the beloved daughter of their leader.
10:02From that day on, Kim Joo-ae began to appear in public more frequently. There were more military
10:09parades, more missile tests, and more meetings with the country's highest-ranking generals.
10:16These are occasions that a child would not normally attend, but each time, she gradually moved from the
10:22background to the very center of the scene. In 2013, a photo went viral.
10:29In this photo, Kim Joo-ae and Kim Jong-un can be seen watching the launch of North Korea's very
10:36first spy satellite. It is noticeable in that photo that Kim Joo-ae is standing in front of her father.
10:44According to the New York Times, that was the first time Kim Jong-un seemed to be set aside in
10:50an
10:50official photo, and the main attention was given to someone else. In the photo, Kim Joo-ae looks like a
10:57younger version of her father. She was wearing a black leather outfit, a type of clothing usually worn
11:04only by members of the North Korean Air Force. Outside the military, only high-ranking officials
11:10are allowed to wear such clothing. This shows that she is gradually being portrayed as a strong and
11:19powerful leader. The Japan-based media outlet Nikki Asia analyzed more than 14,000 hours of North Korean
11:27state television programs from 2022 to late 2025. Based on their analysis, the number of days Kim Joo-ae
11:37appeared on television increased rapidly starting in 2024. Now, she appears nearly as often as her father.
11:44More than half of Kim Joo-ae's public appearances are related to the military, but in recent years,
11:52she has also been seen more frequently at diplomatic meetings, both inside and outside North Korea.
11:58In 2025, she accompanied her father on a visit abroad when he met with Xi Jinping and Vladimir Putin in
12:06Beijing.
12:07Over the years, it has also become noticeable that her attire has become more formal and more fitting
12:12for a high-ranking official. She is also often seen with her face almost touching her father's in
12:19official photos. For some observers, this might be intentional to show that she is very close to
12:25the center of power. But what does all of this really mean? Is it possible that Kim Jong-un is
12:31really
12:31preparing his child to be the next leader of North Korea? Kim Jong-il led North Korea for more than
12:3820 years.
12:39Just a few days after his death in 2011, Kim Jong-un was officially declared as his successor. He was
12:47the youngest son of the late leader and was about 27 years old at that time. Almost no one knew
12:54him at
12:54that time. He had only been introduced to the public a year earlier after being appointed as a general.
13:00From the world's perspective, the transfer of power went smoothly and without any problems. But behind the
13:06scenes, it was a very significant moment. Kim Jong-un had to prove his authority against the older
13:13generals and powerful party officials. He removed his rivals, including some of his own relatives,
13:21until he finally established himself as the country's undisputed most powerful leader. In this way,
13:28the Kim dynasty continued. That experience may have taught Kim Jong-un how important it is to prepare
13:35his successor early. And this became even more important because of his health. According to
13:41reports from South Korea's National Intelligence Service, Kim Jong-un does not live a healthy lifestyle.
13:47He often drinks alcohol, overeats, doesn't get enough sleep and is also known as a heavy chain smoker.
13:54According to a report by the New York Times, he is reportedly experiencing problems with his heart and
14:00blood vessels. The same condition that also caused the death of his father and grandfather.
14:06This may be one of the reasons why he is gradually presenting a possible successor to the public.
14:12But is the regime really grooming Kim Joo-Ai to become the next supreme leader?
14:18Some experts believe that the frequent public appearances of Kim Joo-Ai are primarily helping her
14:24father's image. At a time when Kim Jong-un's leadership is facing serious challenges,
14:30this could serve as a way to improve his image. When the COVID-19 pandemic broke out,
14:36North Korea completely closed its borders. At the same time, trade between China and North Korea
14:42also slowed down. Because of this, inflation rose sharply and food prices became even higher.
14:47It is possible that Kim Jong-un is using his child to show a softer and more humane
14:53side of his personality, as a loving father rather than a strict dictator. However,
14:59North Korea remains a society with strong male influence. If we look at the history of leadership
15:05in the country, only men have held a top leadership position. There is also a significant lack of
15:11representation of women in politics and society, and it has long been said that they experience
15:17systematic discrimination. For many decades, it was almost impossible to imagine that North Korea
15:23would have a female supreme leader. But this seems to be changing under the leadership of Kim Jong-un.
15:29Kim Yo-jong is the first woman to hold such a high leadership position.
15:35She is the vice director of a key department and is also one of North Korea's most important
15:41spokespersons on foreign affairs. Whenever Kim Jong-un meets with leaders of other countries,
15:46she is almost always by his side. Currently, Kim Yo-jong is considered one of the most powerful
15:52people in North Korea, and for some, she is also seen as a possible successor to the leadership.
15:59Next time, we will make a separate video about Kim Yo-jong, but there is an important reason why she
16:05might not be the successor to her brother. In North Korea, the tradition of passing on power states that
16:12the next leader should come from the direct bloodline of the current leader.
16:17If Kim Jong-un's sibling is chosen, the direct line of succession will be broken. But if his child
16:23becomes the successor, the direct bloodline of the dynasty will remain. According to Jae Woo Park,
16:30blood is more important than gender. The Kim family's status is different because,
16:35in the eyes of their propaganda, they are like kings or even gods.
16:37Now it's the fourth generation of their dynasty, so it might be time for a new chapter.
16:43It's possible that a woman will be the next to lead North Korea. In recent years,
16:49state media has started calling Kim Joo-ae, the respected child, general, and morning star.
16:56These titles have deep symbolic meaning and may indicate that she is gradually being prepared for
17:03a higher role. However, up to now, North Korea still has not officially confirmed her real age or even
17:12her name. Because of this, it is impossible to know what is really happening within the country's
17:17tightly closed regime. We also don't know if there are already conflicts about the successor,
17:22or what expectations are being placed on Kim Joo-ae. Kim Jong-un may simply want to present himself as
17:30a
17:30loving father. It's also possible that he's deliberately not appointing a definite successor
17:36yet to keep his options open for the future. Or perhaps he's really preparing Kim Joo-ae to become
17:42the very first woman to lead North Korea. But there's a technical problem. In North Korea,
17:49children usually inherit their father's surname. If Kim Joo-ae becomes the next supreme leader,
17:54it's likely that her children will carry a different surname. That means the Kim dynasty could end there.
18:02But Kim Jong-un holds absolute power in the country and is regarded as an almost
18:08godlike leader. If he wants to change the rules of succession, who can stop him?
