Crime case
Transcript
00:00After 26 years of marriage, Kendi Howard told her husband, former Idaho State Trooper Dan Howard,
00:05that she wanted a divorce. Just five days later, Dan called 911, claiming he had found Kendi dead
00:12from an apparent suicide in their bathtub. But investigators immediately noticed something
00:17wasn't right. The bloodstains, the position of the body, and other evidence at the scene didn't
00:22match a suicide. Detectives spent two years rebuilding the timeline and uncovering what
00:27really happened. Prosecutors said Dan used a carotid restraint, a technique he had learned
00:32during his law enforcement career, to kill Kendi, then staged the scene to look like she had taken
00:37her own life. In 2023, Dan Howard was arrested. After a 10-day trial in 2024, a jury found him
00:45guilty of second-degree murder and domestic battery. He was sentenced to life in prison without the
00:50possibility of parole. What first looked like a tragic suicide turned out to be a carefully staged
00:56murder that investigators refused to accept at face value.
