00:00Speaking this morning at a media briefing at the Police Administration Building in Port of Spain,
00:06Tobago Divisional Commander Senior Superintendent Rodhill Kirk said the division welcomed the proposal,
00:12saying additional resources would assist in efforts to combat crime.
00:16Kirk said if Tobago was selected for one of the posts,
00:20Chirvan Road would be the preferred location because of the activity in the area,
00:24including commercial activity as well as crime patterns.
00:28The reason why we chose that area, Chirvan Road, has been our district with one of the most amount of
00:34activities.
00:35There are a lot of commercial activities, and in terms of even looking at our crime stats,
00:42we intend to use that area as a platform if Tobago is being considered as one of those areas to
00:52have the posts.
00:53Kirk said the Plymouth community is also being considered,
00:56noting its location between two existing police stations.
01:00He said the area represented a gap in police coverage and had also experienced criminal activity.
01:08Plymouth, because Plymouth is more north in terms of,
01:11when you look at the gap between the nearest police station,
01:15Chirvan Road Police Station and there's the Moriah Police Station coming from the north side,
01:19Plymouth is smack in the middle.
01:21And that area, as I say, is heightened in terms of commercial activities,
01:26and that is the most appropriate areas for us to look at in terms of having one of these posts
01:34implemented.
01:35The government has announced plans to establish 30 joint police and military posts across Trinidad and Tobago
01:42as part of its crime reduction strategy.
01:44Prime Minister Kamala-Passad-Bissessa said the posts were expected to be established
01:49before the scheduled end of the state of emergency on September 17th.
01:54Kirk said the Tobago division remained in discussions on the proposal
01:58and would continue to provide input on locations considered most suitable for policing needs.
