00:40In Yemen, the Ansarala resistance movement, known as the Houthis, claimed a missile attack
00:45on a Saudi oil tanker in the Red Sea amid the ongoing maritime blockade and escalating
00:49hostilities between the two nations.
00:56Hello, welcome to From the South, I am Lorena Fon, From the Telestudio Studios in Caracas,
01:01Venezuela.
01:01We begin with the news, stay with us.
01:22Venezuela's Acting President, Elsie Rodriguez, visited the Planta Cento Thermoelectric Power
01:27Plant in Puerto Cabello to begin implementing corrective measures to restore the national power
01:32system.
01:32These actions primarily focus on restoring the infrastructure in steel capacity and strengthening
01:38the stability of the electric power grid by developing comprehensive modernization and
01:43rehabilitation plans.
01:44In this regard, Planta Cento, one of Venezuela's most iconic infrastructure projects, is the
01:49country's main thermal power generation complex in the central western region, where the Chinese
01:54company, Machinery Engineering Corporation, has played a key role.
01:58This initiative is part of the Acting President's Thermoelectric Power Recovery Plan, which aims
02:03to add more megawatts to the national power grid.
02:14Venezuela's Acting President, Elsie Rodriguez, oversaw the implementation of the Venezuelan
02:18Rises Plan in the state of Carabobo.
02:20Accompanied by the head of the plan, Jacqueline Farias, the Venezuelan Acting President visited
02:25Los Bloques Sector in Colinas de Mara.
02:27The goal of the visit was to assess the comprehensive care provided to residents and homes affected
02:32by the June 24-21 earthquakes.
02:35During the inspection, authorities reported that four of the five buildings in Complex 4
02:40sustained no serious damage, while one building was structural and masonry issues that are currently
02:46being repaired.
02:47These efforts reformed the government's commitment to the well-being of earthquake-affected families.
03:10Cuba's Foreign Minister, Bruno RodrÃguez, denounced on Wednesday through his ex-account that the
03:16power outages in the national electricity system are a direct consequence of the United States'
03:20blockade.
03:21Rodriguez stated that the power outages in the national electricity grid, CEN, are a direct
03:27consequence of the genocidal U.S. blockade against Cuba, particularly the energy blockade.
03:32This blockade not only prevents the free import of fuel, but also blocks the entry into our
03:37country of parts and components necessary for the CEN, impedes collaboration with experts
03:43from other nations, and hinders access to international financing.
03:47Cuba is not a threat, the blockade is.
03:50In this context, the island's electric union reported that at 11.35 a.m. local time on
03:56Tuesday, the CEN was restored after the outage on afternoon of August 3, after gradually reconnecting
04:03the grid following a blackout the previous day.
04:11In this context, the island's national electric corporation reported that the national electric
04:16system was restored on Tuesday at 11.35 a.m. following the disconnection of the afternoon
04:21of August 3. The reconnection proceeded gradually after the previous day's blackout. Furthermore,
04:26the electrical union forecasted an impact of 2,210 MW during these Wednesday night peak hours.
04:44In Ecuador, Daniel Novoa's government deployed 4,000 military and police personnel to the capital,
04:50Quito, amid reports on increased violence in the city. The deployment includes 2,000 military
04:55and 2,000 police together with 100 vehicles and 20 drones to reinforce security operations
05:00across the capital. At the same time, Ecuador's head of state announced intensified controls
05:06in avenues and roads entering the city as well as in the city center. This comes after continued
05:11reports of violent crimes including the finding of a decapitated body hanging from a bridge
05:17a few days ago. Ecuador, considered one of the most violent countries in Latin America,
05:23has been under a state of internal armed conflict declared by President Daniel Novoa in 2024. While
05:30critics argue that the Novoa's anti-crime policies have done nothing but erode the nation's democratic
05:36institutions.
05:45And also in Ecuador, kidney patients and their families demanded medications and treatments in defense of their
05:52right to health. The demands were made outside the Carondelet Palace, the seat of government and the
05:57President's official residence, while protesters denounced thousands of deaths due to a lack of
06:02medical care. Although the executive branch tried to drown out their voices with blurry music, the
06:09protesters pointed out that some medicines cost up to 20 times their monthly income. This situation
06:15exacerbates a health crisis that, according to experts, is the worst the country has faced in recent decades,
06:21and could worsen with the closure of more medical facilities.
06:33And now we have a short break coming up, but first remember you can join us on TikTok at

07:04Welcome back from the South. We continue with more information. Rescue operations are on the way in Sierra Leone's
07:09capital, Freetown. After hours of torrential rains triggered deadly flash floods.
07:14Slope collapses and severe erosion. Heavy overnight rainfall flooded more than 300 homes, displaced in hundreds of
07:21families across low-lying neighborhoods in the Medsham community. Three people, a young girl, her mother and
07:26grandmother, were killed when a compound wall collapsed. Search teams continue looking for two missing
07:32children while authorities warned that contaminated water sources posed severe health risks. Local residents blamed poor
07:39drainage systems and blocked infrastructure for worsening recurring seasonal floods. The National Disaster Management
07:46Agency has deployed emergency teams across affected districts, urging residents in a high-risk slope areas to remain
07:53vigilant as heavy rains persist.
08:03Meanwhile, in Guatemala, hundreds of villagers are taking shelter after the Fuego volcano erupted, sweeping lava and
08:10towering clouds of ash across nearby communities. Around 1,700 people were evacuated from villages near the
08:17crater as authorities raised the maximum alert. For many, the eruption revived painful memories of the deadly 2018 disaster that
08:25buried entire communities under volcanic flows. While evacuees prioritize their safety over dangerous avalanches
08:32of burning material, many expressed deep anxiety over leaving behind their livestock and homes to potential
08:38looting. In response, the Guatemalan government has deployed security patrols throughout the affected zone to
08:45protect property while emergency operations continue.
08:56In the United States, Calaveras County, California declared a state of emergency due to a raging
09:02uncontained wildfire that has consumed more than 2,628 hectares. Due to the threat, the fire poses the homes and
09:11infrastructure. Authorities ordered evacuations and road closures in nearby areas. The flames fueled by dry
09:17vegetation are being fought by a team of more than 250 people backed by 50 fire trucks, eight water tankers,
09:25four
09:25helicopters, 16 excavators, 16 ground brigades and water tanking aircraft operating according
09:32to weather conditions. Authorities confirmed that there are no reports of injuries or fatalities and the
09:38cause of the fire remains under investigation.
09:51Also in the United States, authorities in Washington have arrested a suspect on arson charges following a
09:58massive wildfire near the city of Spokane. 37-year-old Adam Farinacci is held on a $1 million bond charged
10:05with
10:06first-degree arson for allegedly starting the Old Trails fire. Police reported that the suspect was
10:12detained near the scene carrying waterproof matches and a lighter. The blaze fueled by drought and high heat
10:19combined with two other fires to destroy over 700 structures and displaced 60,000 residents.
10:34Internal divisions within the European Union have escalated after Spain condemned Italy for imposing
10:41restrictive water shakes following recent migrants' arrivals in Ceuta. Spanish Interior Minister Fernando
10:47Grande Marlaska called Rome's measures disproportionate and unnecessary demanding an immediate end to the
10:53country. Madrid rejected claims that the Schengen Free Movement zone was threatened, stressing that human rights
11:00and international law must remain central to migration policy. The clash underscores growing friction among
11:05European Union nations over border management, sovereignty and regional solidarity.
11:19Human rights activists have taken to the streets of Madrid to demand safe migration routes following a
11:26deadly border crisis in the Spanish enclave of Ceuta. Rallying under the banner Borders Kill, demonstrators in
11:32the Spanish capital condemned the European Union's militarized border policies. The protest comes after 75 people
11:39lost their lives attempting to breach Ceuta. Activists demanded an end to force pushbacks and militarized barriers,
11:47calling for human rights and free movement over imperial border enforcement.
11:55Also in this context, asylum seekers fleeing war in Gaza are among thousands of migrants trapped in severe
12:02humanitarian conditions in the Spanish enclave of Ceuta. Survivors of the ongoing genocide and blockade in Gaza
12:08reports swimming for hours to reach European soil, only to face severe neglect with no access to basic
12:15food, clean water or medical support. The humanitarian crisis underscored both of the forced displacement
12:22driven by imperialist conflict and the punitive border regimes across the European Union.
12:33The humanitarian crisis is a very difficult situation.
12:34Hello, I am Palestinian. We were able to come here to Morocco because the humanitarian situation back home is
12:39very difficult and because the border crossing into the Gaza Strip in Palestine is closed due to the war and
12:45we
12:45have no other opportunity for work or success except to enter the European Union to secure our future and help
12:51our
12:51people in Gaza and Palestine in general. That is why we are asking you to help us even more than
12:57you already have
12:57because you are aware of our situation in Palestine and the Gaza Strip. Thank you.
13:16Public anger against Ukrainian President Volodymyr Selesky is intensified in Kyiv over a sweeping
13:22government reshuffle during wartime. Demonstrators gathered in the capital carrying signs declaring
13:28you are not Sarvova demanding the reinstatement of Women's Defense Minister Mikhail Ovederov.
13:34Protesters accused the Zelensky administration of autocratic decision-making and failing to address
13:39public concerns regarding high-level cabinet dismissals. The ongoing rallies highlight mounting domestic
13:46frustration over internal corruption, political instability and the consolidation of power within the government.

14:49Welcome back to From the South. We continue now in the Middle East.
14:52In the occupied West Bank, Israeli military and border police forces have launched their largest raid today against the Jalandia
15:01refugee camp near Jerusalem.
15:03Troops and armored vehicles heavily deployed throughout the streets, carrying out widespread poverty, abuse, force, evictions and mass detention against
15:11Palestinian residents.
15:13Local authorities reported that Israeli soldiers forcibly expelled families from their homes during the massive operation, which marks an unprecedented
15:21escalation in the ongoing campaign against refugee camps across the territory.
15:26The aggressive military push followed recent cabinet directives to expand long-term troops' occupations, further deepening the humanitarian crisis facing
15:35Palestinians in the West Bank.
15:44And in Lebanon, reported 11 violations by the Israeli army, while Beirut and Tel Aviv began a new round of
15:51negotiations.
15:52According to local sources, an Israeli drone attacked several neighborhoods in the southern district of Tiro.
15:58At the same time, Tel Aviv carried out an operation using bulldozers against homes in Hadatta and Aital Jabal.
16:05Meanwhile, in eastern Lebanon, Israel fired jets to fly over the city of Beirut and southern suburbs.
16:11Although the agreement calls for the withdrawal of Israeli forces, the army continues to attack civilian areas in the country.
16:19The sign of its aggression has claimed the lives of at least 1,300 civilians and left 12,250 injured
16:27since the offensive began in March 2.
16:37And in the same context, in Lebanon, the United Nations reported that more than 800,000 displaced people are returning
16:45to the south of the country despite continuing Israeli attacks.
16:48The organization reported that as of July 30, more than 360,000 people remain displaced, including 26,000 who are
16:57in government-run shelters.
16:58They also emphasized that Israel is continuing its airstrikes, artillery, bombardments and demolition operations in southern cities, in violation of
17:07the ceasefire agreement.
17:09Authorities warned that damage to water and electricity infrastructure caused by the conflict is affecting access to water for more
17:17than 700,000 people in the south of the country,
17:20with the region being the most affected by displacement during the conflict.
17:33And in Yemen, the Ansar al-La resistance movement known as the Houthis claim a missile attack on a Southeast
17:38oil tanker in the Red Sea amid the ongoing maritime blockade and escalating hostilities between the two nations.
17:45The movement's military spokesperson says the Saudi oil tanker, Wafa, has been targeted with ballistic missiles off the coast of
17:52Yambou in the Red Sea.
17:54In the sense, the spokesman reiterated that the Yemeni forces will maintain the meridian blockade for Saudi Arabia in the
18:01Red Sea as part of the blockade for blockade and escalation for escalation formula.
18:06This comes after the movement declared the blockade on July 22,
18:10following escalating hostilities in Saudi Arabia against Yemen in the past few months,
18:15including an attack on Sana'a International Airport in the Yemeni capital.
18:24The Yemeni armed forces, with the help of God, have successfully targeted the Saudi oil tanker Wafa in the Northern
18:30Red Sea off the Yambou area
18:34with a number of ballistic missiles.
18:38The strike was precise.
18:42With this operation, the total number of Saudi oil vessels targeted by our forces since the start of the naval
18:48blockade on July 22 has reached eight.
18:53The total number of Saudi oil vessels that have been prevented from sailing and forced to turn back in the
18:58Red Sea and the Arabian Sea has reached 29.
19:06With the success of the Yemeni armed forces in tightening the naval blockade on the Saudi enemy from Bab al
19:12-Mandeb in the Southern Red Sea,
19:15the Saudi enemy has redirected the route of its oil vessels towards the Northern Red Sea.
19:23The Yemeni armed forces affirmed that their operations will continue and escalate in targeting Saudi oil vessels in the Northern
19:29Red Sea
19:32in order to close all access routes on Saudis and prevent their passage,
19:37thereby enforcing the equation of blockade for blockade regardless of the consequences and repercussions.
19:45In Libya, a mass prisoner break out the west of Tripoli coincides with armed clashes between rival groups in the
19:52city of Surman and Zawiya.
19:54Police authorities report that the incident left at least three civilian deaths and several injured.
19:59Meanwhile, they have launched an investigation and established a committee to identify the fugitives
20:04and take the necessary legal action against them without revealing their number.
20:08The authorities are calling on armed groups to cease the clashes, emphasizing that they harm residents of the region.
20:15Experts point out that the unfolding of these events highlights the insecurity in the west of the country,
20:20threatening the population in strategic facilities and vital highways.
20:33The World Food Programme warns that 14 million Afghans face acute hunger as severe funding cuts force eight agencies to
20:40scale back critical food assistance.
20:42Critical child malnutrition has reached record levels across 12 provinces, with infants under two hottest hits.
20:49The World Food Programme officials reported that the crippling budget shortfalls leave them able to assist only one in nine
20:57acutely hungry citizens nationwide.
20:59The crisis is compounded by rising food prices, economic stability and the forced return of nearly 6 million Afghans from
21:07neighboring countries.
21:08With humanitarian funding under 30% of the year,
21:11the United Nations urgently requires $500 million before winter to prevent widespread preventable deaths.
21:21In the past three years, close to 6 million Afghans have been forcibly expelled from neighboring countries.
21:26There are simply not enough jobs to sustain them.
21:30Conflict with Pakistan and the Middle East crisis have created trade disruptions,
21:34which have pushed up the price of staple foods by 20 to 30%.
21:38The poor are being priced out of the market.
21:41And at present, close to 14 million Afghans are acutely hungry in the past few months.
21:48Crippled by funding cuts, WFP has been able to feed only one in nine of them.
21:55And like this, we have come to the end of this news brief.
