00:00And Dan Quinn said repeatedly throughout the offseason, I'm going to run my most competitive camp yet.
00:05And coaches always say that kind of stuff.
00:07It's like what I always say.
00:09If you look fat and ugly on the first day of school, you're just fat and ugly.
00:11Like, you're going to say the best things, right?
00:15But this camp has been really competitive.
00:18They've gone way longer, seemingly, every day than I expect.
00:22When they have the pads on, there is real full speed.
00:25And I think people are on the ground, too.
00:28Will Harris just keeps thumping, dudes.
00:30It just continues to thump.
00:32That's the thing I think offensive players have to understand.
00:34If you know that a defensive guy is that thumper-type guy, you have to bring it, too.
00:39And if both guys are going at a certain level, they are not going to go to the ground.
00:43But ultimately, for me, I think that Will has an intensity and a speed he goes all the time.
00:50Totally.
00:51Other guys don't do that.
00:52Shout out to—
00:53They've got to figure it out.
00:54We had a bunch of our people we work with here.
00:57Friday, Abernathy, Frank Christofoli, Mike Goldrick, Melinda.
01:00We saw Friday on a Wednesday.
01:01I know.
01:02Friday on a Wednesday.
01:02What a day, huh?
01:04And so the commanders, I think it was very cool, invited all the local news stations out
01:09and various executives and stuff.
01:12And the one dude who I think was brown-nosing the absolute most, who would you say be?
01:18Ryan Clary.
01:19Ryan Clary.
01:22Hey, I'm a company guy.
01:24I am a company guy.
01:26Corporate Clary.
01:27Corporate Clary.
01:28If you're telling me there's an executive here, guess what?
01:30I'm going to shake their hand, and I did.
01:33Corporate Clary is saying that he's shaking hands, and he's dumb enough to not lean into
01:38the camera shot.
01:39Shake your hand and kiss your baby.
01:41When he's talking.
01:42Well, the best news is they aren't here right now.
01:44They just left.
01:45So they won't be able to see it.
01:46So I'm sorry, Frank.
01:47Joey, do not tell them.
01:48They will see it when they go back and look at it.
01:50Well, if they do, I guess we'll find out.
01:52Yeah, they got to go back and look at that film.
01:54So padded practice, which I was excited to see.
01:57I think they've now done this twice, and it's both days they're in pads, that they run the
02:03offensive linemen out there to start practice running routes.
02:06And it is nothing if not fun.
02:09Like, it's just a fun way to start.
02:11And I don't know, B, if there's any science to this.
02:15Lord knows I'm not a scientist.
02:16But I wonder if just getting the O-line, running those routes, just loosens them up a little
02:22bit more for on days you know you're going to be going at it.
02:25It totally does.
02:26It's got to, right?
02:26You loosen them up.
02:28Because, like, one thing, those guys normally, all the drills they do are, like, hit step,
02:33hit step, little step up.
02:35They don't do any running, per se.
02:37In that situation, they have to open up a little bit, which helps them out.
02:40Because they have a lot of pulling and different things like that on this team now.
02:43And they have to get them ready to go.
02:45So, that one conclusion I've reached is I think they've run this little offensive line
02:50route tree on padded practice days.
02:52We're two days in.
02:54To me, that's a pattern, right?
02:55The other thing we've got to discuss, we've talked to PR about what terms we're allowed
03:03to use as far as this.
03:05And this is the term that's been agreed upon.
03:07Razzle-dazzle is going to be a part of this offense.
03:10Like, it's not going to be twice a year they run some kind of trick gimmicky play.
03:14It's going to be twice a game.
03:16Yeah.
03:16Like, we're seeing it day after day after day.
03:18You have to practice it.
03:20See, that's the thing about it.
03:21Like, many people who come up with these plays, a lot of people think it just happens.
03:27No.
03:27Just like you practice all your regular offense, you've got to practice the trick stuff.
03:31You've got to practice the stuff that you feel is a little bit more exotic.
03:36You know what I'm saying?
03:36And I think when you do those type of things, if you do it all the time, it becomes, like,
03:41second nature.
03:42Totally.
03:43Instead of just doing it on, oh, we're going to try to do it this week.
03:45If you haven't been practicing, it ain't going to work.
03:48So, when teams don't run a lot of, like, gimmicky trick plays, and then when one is installed,
03:57a lot of times the teams kind of give it away.
04:00Because, like, the defense can sense that.
04:04Excitement.
04:04Yeah, like, the offense feels like they're about to do something else.
04:06Or the check call at the line of scrimmage is a little bit different.
04:10Whatever it is, right?
04:11Like, I remember in high school, when we would run a fake punt, the up man on punt team would
04:18yell,
04:18let's go Barons, let's go Barons.
04:19And I remember we did it, say we did it, like, twice through five games.
04:23And then the next time we did it, the opposing defense was like, yo, fake, fake, fake.
04:28Like, you can't be in, and this is obviously not high school,
04:31but when you don't run stuff like that very frequently, it feels like a bigger deal.
04:35When it's just part of your offense and your install, it allows it to be more organic
04:41and, like, hopefully more successful.
04:43And you can't change up your whole call.
04:45Right.
04:46Like, y'all didn't say let's go Barons any other time.
04:48Nope.
04:48So, I mean, who was the coach that did this?
04:52You know the coach still?
04:53Yep.
04:54Well, coach, that was a mistake.
04:57You gave it away.
04:58And if you are going to make a call, you got to change it weekly.
05:02You know, the thing about, like, when we did fakes, I called the same stuff all the time.
05:08But I may have told them if I call something different, we're not running it.
05:16Right.
05:16If I call something the same, we're running it.
05:18Right.
05:18So, all of a sudden, when they start looking, and if I call something different, everybody,
05:23oh, looking for the fake, we don't run the fake.
05:25Right.
05:25You know, I'll trick you up a little bit.
05:27I also think today was the best day for the offense we've seen.
05:32I thought the offense was cooking today.
05:33They look good today.
05:34Yeah, they look good.
05:35And you saw it from, like, all over, right?
05:37I thought McCaffrey has looked good.
05:40McCaffrey's starting to string together days.
05:42And that's when you can really start to make an impact.
05:45I thought Luke has looked good for multiple days now.
05:49I also thought the offensive line today, Cosby and Tunsell got the day off.
05:54Both were back in today.
05:55And you could see the O-line, I thought, was gelling.
06:01Because, to their credit, the defense was blitzing a lot.
06:05I thought it was Frankie Louvoo's most active day.
06:07I saw a lot of Frankie.
06:09And there was a collision.
06:11I believe it was Cosby.
06:13They're not going to give me the O-22 to go back and look.
06:16But Frankie blitzed hard.
06:19And I think Cosby got him kind of late, but got enough.
06:23And it was a real collision.
06:25It's just, like, today was a day that reminded me anyway, and probably them.
06:33Yo, we know it's mid-August and it kind of sucks.
06:35But you all right?
06:36Cramp.
06:40I'm good now.
06:41Dude, I hate that.
06:42You get it, like, right here?
06:43Right in that rear.
06:44You all right, get it on my back sometimes?
06:46That thing feels like a bone.
06:48You all right?
06:49Yeah, I'm going to get through this.
06:50You can go to break.
06:51No, I don't need to go to break.
06:51Okay, Jeff, don't go to break.
06:53Stretch through it.
06:53Stretch through it.
06:54Yeah, stretch it out.
06:55I thought McLaurin has been impressive throughout camp because it's what you would expect from McLaurin.
07:02But you know who continues to, day after day, make big plays?
07:08Who's that?
07:08Colson Yankoff.
07:09My problem.
07:10Listen.
07:10He's an athlete.
07:11I know people can say who's drafted, who's this, who's that.
07:15That dude gets his name called every day.
07:20And I think that's how you see a guy like that that stays around and ends up on the football
07:23field.
07:24So, Yankoff makes unbelievable catches.
07:26He does multiple things.
07:28That's a guy who makes yourself not expendable.
07:32Totally.
07:32You know what I'm saying?
07:33Yeah, absolutely.
07:33And I think this offense has so much more work and looks for the tight ends that someone is going
07:44to emerge as the secondary tight end to Chig and have 35, 40 catches.
07:49And I just, Senators look good.
07:53Cager's shown.
07:54Yeah.
07:54Like, the kid 40, Bennett Moore, the undrafted guy, had a couple things.
07:59But Yankoff, every day, is making a play where you're like, damn.
08:03You know?
08:03And the athleticism, the ball skills, he's big, strong ox.
08:10He's capable as a blocker.
08:12And the amount of multiple tight end sets we're going to see is just so dramatically different.
08:20Like, so I don't know if fans recognize this or understand this, but every practice is blocked off.
08:29Like, there's generally 10 blocks, right?
08:32And they know exactly what they're going to do.
08:35It's going to be individual drills, position drills, team drills.
08:39Team drills are typically when you get your 11-on-11, 7-on-7, or they've been doing a lot
08:43of live kicking, those sorts of things where the full team is involved in one drill, right?
08:50But every single day you see that Yankoff's making a play.
08:54And it's just, it's been really interesting to watch, and he's a young man, you know, he's very likable when
09:01you talk to him.
09:02And I think these guys with John Bates down, and it kind of feels like Bates might miss all of
09:06preseason.
09:07I mean, they said weeks.
09:08They said a few weeks.
09:09So we'll see.
09:10But these dudes are making the most of that opportunity with Bates down.
09:17Yankoff especially, I would say.
09:19Yeah, yeah.
09:19And we know who John Bates is, there's zero question about his abilities, but it's been fun to watch the
09:27rest of this group get more work.
09:29I mean, right now on the roster, Bates, Cager, Moore, Chig, Sennett, Yankoff, I mean, that's six tight ends.
09:36They're obviously not keeping him, not keeping six.
09:39No.
09:39But B, I really think on the final 53, I'm not even talking about the 70, I'm talking about the
09:4553, I think you're going to have four tight ends.
09:48It's very possible.
09:50Chig, Bates, Sennett, Yankoff.
09:52Probably Yankoff.
09:53Because Yankoff also, he is very, very big in the special teams.
09:57So that's a guy that makes himself, you keep him around.
10:00I'm looking at, like, we're talking about tight ends now.
10:03I look at another guy who kind of puts himself in that position, and that's, what's my name, 26.
10:09Can't think of his name right now.
10:11Running back, running back.
10:12I'm sorry.
10:13What are you saying?
10:14I'm saying he puts himself in the same position as a Yankoff fan.
10:17Oh, J-Mac.
10:17Jeremy McNichols.
10:18Yeah, McNichols.
10:19Because when you can do multiple things, man, you become a person that the team want to keep around.
10:24Totally.
10:24Yeah.
10:24And J-Mac is a guy, they've stuck him to the practice squad before.
10:28I won't be shocked if he's part of the 70 and not necessarily the 53.
10:32You know, I've also been impressed by Bill.
10:35And, well, Sean White's going to have a role.
10:37Fat Man's going to have a role.
10:38I think Fat Man's role comes on as the year progresses.
10:42But they have not said anything about Bill.
10:45And when they publicly talk about Bill, it's been very much in a challenging tone, I think, to want more
10:51from him.
10:52But I do think with Bill, man, every time it's the first team going out for the first drills, it's
10:59Bill.
11:00And today, especially when the rain was coming down and before it got super humid like it is now, it
11:06kind of felt like a November game against the Giants.
11:10Like it had like an NFC East feel to it when it was kind of cool and rainy.
11:14And they were really running the ball.
11:16And it's fun to watch Bill versus Fat Man because their run styles are just so dramatically different.
11:21Bill is kind of this like slicer glider through the hole.
11:25Fat Man's just squared shoulders.
11:27Squared shoulders and say, I'm going to take you with me.
11:29Yeah.
11:30But like the thing about Bill, I think they want Bill to be focused on holding on to the football
11:35and just begin being better as a blocker.
11:39And I think he's improving at both of those things so far in practice.
11:44Agreed.
11:44You know, like I always discuss it, you have to do certain things on a football field to make sure
11:50you stay out there.
11:51And as a running back, it's things that really don't have anything to do with running.
11:57It's all protection and protecting that QB.
