00:00A Democratic Socialist candidate is once again having to explain past comments about
00:04Thanksgiving. Francesca Hong, the current frontrunner for her party's nomination for
00:10Wisconsin governor, was asked this week whether she still believes Thanksgiving should be cancelled
00:15after a 2020 social media post in which she called the holiday a celebration of colonialism.
00:19Rather than directly answering the question from CNN's Caitlin Collins, Hong pointed to her
00:24background as a chef and restaurant owner. I always think my hospitality background and
00:29owning a restaurant for seven, eight years that bringing folks around the table to share
00:35conversation and build community is always a good thing. But Thanksgiving is also a time that's
00:41incredibly painful for many people in our communities. And so I think there I wanted to
00:46make sure that people understood that there are multiple views, but views can evolve. The comments
00:52come as Hong faces renewed scrutiny over a series of old social media posts criticizing not just
00:57Thanksgiving, but also holidays, including the 4th of July, Christmas, Halloween, Valentine's Day,
01:02Mother's Day, and Father's Day. Hong did not and has not said whether or not she still believes
01:07Thanksgiving should be cancelled, and her campaign has not responded to questions about the resurfaced
01:11posts. Win or lose, though, she may not be someone you're going to want to invite to your next holiday
01:16party.
