00:09so we have here our first live look at the uh at the at the game so this is the
00:15as you said this
00:15is a build that they've seen this battle before it's maybe the last time they see the battle um
00:19but they've seen this battle before they've seen this map before um but never the full
00:23thing with deployment and everything we're going to be running through yeah stop the bottom yeah
00:29you'll see a lot of um you're very familiar stuff here obviously deployment is there it's
00:33deployment is part of total war yeah um but um again uh in terms of the style of the map
00:37and the
00:37kind of map that is it's not you know miles away from the sorts of the sort of map that
00:41we had in
00:41previous total war titles we do have a big spectrum of different kinds of maps of course that we're
00:46going to have more dense maps we're going to have you know more sparse maps this one sits on the
00:50sort
00:50of more sparse side of things but it's not the completely flat you know uh i want to say i
00:56want
00:56to say tournament style map you know necessarily um but you know it's got some interest in it uh
01:00but it is a good sort of uh you know it's a good middle ground yeah it presents a few
01:03different
01:04things present some denser areas some open areas so it's a pretty good show map we should check out
01:09we should check out that that lovely sunset because it is uh that is that is beautiful it's
01:14grimdark cannon yeah i can hear everyone going yapping but it's lovely take it in isn't it lovely
01:20yeah look um and a huge amount of work is is going into making sure that we capture the the
01:26feeling you know the dream thought the scale everything um so you know massive kudos to to
01:31the art team for putting off something that looks just wonderful someone called me up very accurately
01:34of where's the close beta sign up that's on the clips that we'll show later um but you're welcome
01:37to google it and find yourself before that qr code comes up um so we'll talk about just a couple
01:42of
01:42things here before we actually jump into the battle because some of this ui is brand new right so we
01:47want
01:47make sure people understand uh exactly what they're seeing there so uh should we start with
01:51reserves yeah let's go for it will do you want to click there there you go so massive massive
01:57difficult disclaimer again uh like the the actual that panel itself uh as of very recently completely
02:02changed uh it is still it's still a panel uh but we we have strategic reserves um so a big
02:08part of this
02:08game is is basically uh teeing up the forces that you're going to bring into the battle from your from
02:13your campaign um and uh having them come in in their various different ways so you may have some
02:17opportunity to sort of shuffle some units around during deployment like what do you want to have
02:21your starting army as but then there will be more restrictions as well let's say uh you know you're
02:25playing with space marines and you have a fleet in orbit you'll have some people wrapped up on that
02:29fleet you won't necessarily be able to start the battle with but you can join the battle with them
02:33throughout using the strategic reserves panel bringing them in via very violent and upsetting ways such as drop
02:43to consider at deployment whether you want to bring your full force in or if you want to keep some
02:47stuff in reserves so that they can fly in on thunder hawks later to surprise the enemy but we're playing
02:53the guard we are the astro militarum they they they do have valkyries yeah but we tend not to send
02:59them
02:59down via drop pod uh because they are they are human they are squishy yeah um and they they wouldn't
03:04survive that kind of impact uh so the guards play style is much more about bringing reserves up the field
03:09to sort of meet the enemy and hold the line effectively yep it's a bit more like classical
03:13total worry enforcements yeah um with with more with more control over who and when and where
03:17basically um then there's there's two other things we'll touch on before we actually do you know
03:23people people seem pretty interested in what we're saying rather than having to go at me for not
03:26telling most of our battles um so there's two rows of icons above the mini map there uh what are
03:32they
03:33oh they're different things for starters um so uh we have uh the bombardments that you're going to bring
03:38into the battle and again all uh work in progress ui um but the the the explosive powerful ordnance
03:44that you have from off field um or again uh from your fleet that again due to your campaign situation
03:50you will have teed up before this battle so let's say uh well in this case actually uh we have
03:54our
03:54death strike uh god spear warhead um which is uh that is coming from off field right uh that is
04:00that
04:00is an artillery piece sat off field ready to get involved we've done it in our campaign but um if
04:05we
04:05and we do have a fleet in orbit as well we have our lance strike and we have uh our
04:09some valkyries
04:09at the ready yep ready to ready to drop in some missiles so we've got a bunch of different
04:14bombardments that we can drop in um and then we have our army abilities or or the in this case
04:19the orders yeah regimental orders so the the ester militarum has this mechanic where you can
04:25enact orders that will spread to units that are within range of voxcaster so their play style is making
04:32sure that you have all of your units close enough to a command unit that can then issue these orders
04:36which will give them different buffs that you will use to manage your situation in the field to adapt
04:41to what you need yeah very similar inspired by their tabletop mechanics of course yeah and and again just
04:46how just how the guards should operate right again like coming from the law like you know they they
04:50are waiting for their orders they are the human wall um so uh so yeah and so part of that
04:55play style
04:55with the guard that we'll hopefully hopefully see if uh will's uh will does is uh does the best he
05:01can um is is presenting that that strong front um and and meeting the enemy uh in the open and
05:06then
05:06crashing against them and reinforcing so um yeah we will we'll see how that goes fantastic well then
05:11we've got a lot of a lot to talk about but i think we can start the battle and start
05:14touching on
05:15some of it as as well battles the orcs okay go on then so one thing to point out is
05:21the cassockins
05:22were not in the deployment zone so they had forward deployment yeah forward scouts yeah well
05:26classically uh vanguard appointment yeah we're forward scouts yeah so they are able to uh yeah
05:30deploy uh from the front obviously with some limitation um and uh and uh scout out the battlefield
05:36for you and have better vision um better visibility uh visibility uh now being a big deal for the
05:41big deal yes yep so you can you can uh you can see we visualize now uh where things are
05:46we have
05:46fog of war um i'm not sure if it is actually in this build it's not uh the visuals the
05:50visuals are
05:51are not engaged but the mechanics are like this is why we cannot see the orcs at the moment right
05:55but the fog of war has a pretty big impact in this game especially because we're playing in sometimes
06:00very dense maps buildings other obstructions will block your fog of war so part of the strategy might
06:06be to destroy sight lines to be able to see where the enemy are coming from and we see one
06:09of them
06:09approaching right now yeah it's a very eager uh battle wagon uh who's uh who's currently being very
06:15brave and being a little bit suicidal to to drive oh i mean yeah i didn't see what he's going
06:18up
06:18no no no he's met a bane blade at this point he's probably made the decision that it is uh
06:22it's worth just going in and going ham uh and he's gone so he's done he's done the best he
06:26can um and
06:27he smashed over some cover um which is probably worth talking about a little bit um we'll move
06:32some people into cover here on this left ruin yeah and you can see that they'll filter into uh positions
06:37basically so we really wanted to keep it as close to the standard control as possible so this is just
06:42part of the drag out when you're dragging out a unit over a cover zone they will populate the positions
06:47uh within that oh no oh no and that's what you do if you don't want to get cover it's
06:53all good
06:53a bombardment's coming in so this is all going to get a little bit messy um yeah that that bane
06:57blade's trying to contribute though um yeah which is going to be a rough time for our full day um
07:02so
07:02what this gives us a nice opportunity to talk about is the destruction of cover yeah and how that works
07:06too so we we have cover zones um they are they are pre-established within the map um and it's
07:11a
07:12combination uh of the the simulation of the actual projectiles being fired and hitting uh
07:17those cover pieces um those can be destroyed but within those cover zones as well we are we are
07:21doing a few things to sort of keep it uh keep it established so we have a concept of evasion
07:26as long
07:26as you're within a cover zone uh you'll get you're slightly harder to hit the the enemy is more likely
07:30to miss you um and what gets destroyed does leave behind a little bit of detritus as you can see
07:34um so uh so basically there's always a little bit of effect there what we didn't really want is for
07:38players to have to sort of constantly think about oh is there cover there isn't there cover there
07:42did it move did it get it fully destroyed so there is an impact there is a simulated impact it
07:46will become
07:46slightly less effective but it still holds on to some of its teeth yeah um which is uh you know
07:49we're finding to play uh really nicely yeah but this is the point of coming to close beta right is
07:55to
07:55start to really actually fence this with with everyone that is going to spend i hope a great
07:59deal of time like we are playing this game and enjoying it um and figuring out where where to take
08:04it and how to sort of really dial into the guts of it it's gone really well on that left
08:08blank hasn't it
08:14yeah maybe get the maybe get the baneblade involved but uh no the the cover zones most
08:19of the areas in this map that you see that have tons of cover pieces have sandbags look fortified
08:25these are the the proper cover zones will give you both the simulated impact yeah and uh the buff uh
08:31but
08:33staying behind positions of cover can also exist in some other contexts for example if you bring in a very
08:38very large bombardment it will make a crater this crater will allow you to dock some units to it
08:43to have the simulated benefit of being behind something that cannot be shot at but in those
08:48cases you won't get the buff because this is not a fortified zone it's not prepared for cover
08:52it'll give you some advantage but not quite the same advantage as these areas of the map that are
08:56specific for it so you get you get some benefit out and there is some really fun sort of like
09:00emergent uh gameplay that come out of you know uh are we about to drop the bomb okay all all
09:06silence for
09:06the bomb uh here comes the death strike uh so this is this is lovely um i love this um
09:12so yeah you
09:13can see like uh it's left behind like that crater there obviously that's a massive one um you'll
09:19probably get more effect out of the smaller ones that pepper things and you have different bombardments
09:22with different sorts of uh of cadence of explosion that will create different sizes of crater and
09:27so yeah yeah super fun how's it how's it it's uh we need it we need the second front we
09:33need the
09:33second front um do you think it's uh i think it's worth talking about projectiles in yeah yeah one
09:40thing oh well if you look back at that tank one thing that tank's doing it's trying to do oh
09:44it's
09:44trying to get it's it's starting oh it's still flaming them and you can see some last cannons going off
09:50that's a melter going off but yeah he is he is strafing he's strafing so um yeah we have we've
09:54introduced uh strafing um it's uh it's a modified movement basically um for for your mouse and keys
10:02you can hold down alt as you drag out you can just move in that direction um it's not limited
10:07to uh
10:08vehicles um we want uh everyone to have this potential to to stray but with different uh proficiency yeah
10:16let's say that so infantry can strafe um everyone can strafe uh but we want to we want to make
10:22sure
10:22that the difference or the asymmetry and skills of the units are represented so guardsmen etc
10:26they'll be able to move backwards slowly while firing um orcs can do it if you're that organized
10:31and really wanting backing away it's not the play style you want to go for with orcs necessarily
10:34uh but um when it really shines is where you get your powerhouses like space marito are
10:38you know so powerful and super super accurate don't lose any accuracy yeah exactly right so there
10:44there are negatives to strafing what it allows you to do is you would like move sideways move
10:47backwards and uh really reinforce your your positional gameplay because i think you know a
10:53really a big part of what makes total war so crunchy and fun is is the positional gameplay like
11:00little craters um and lots of limbs um that's always been our objective uh so we're building a game
11:05in the 41st millennium when we want to bring all the good warhammer goodness but we still want this to
11:10feel like a proper total war game yeah so total war is a lot about positioning
11:13and moving your troops in the right place and attacking the enemy from the right angles
11:16so we still want to drive gameplay primarily through that absolutely i guess we'll we'll talk
11:21more about like how the combat paradigm works later but yeah that positional gameplay is super super
11:26important right so things uh we'll talk about later but yeah the suppression flanking etc uh at range
11:32is all really really important to you to take down your opponent and make sure you are you know
11:35enfilaying getting around them encircling them and bringing them down um alongside using cover
11:41we need more stuff we need more men we need more men
11:45i don't i can't remember if you touched on this when we're talking about reserves themselves but
11:49where are these reserves coming from uh if you're on a campaign right okay yeah so this will be your
11:53your surrounding armies um and uh and people that are that are up on your people might not people
11:59xenos as well uh those that are on your fleets so basically surrounding armies can get involved in these
12:03battles um obviously yeah there's there is a total limit of armies that will be able to get involved in
12:08a
12:08conflict uh but yeah you can you can bring in uh you know in some cases up to up to
12:1340 um onto the
12:14battlefield and you'll be able to get involved might be quite difficult to get up to 40 space marine units
12:18in one place yeah right but that is definitely not hard to do with guard so uh yeah absolutely so
12:25yeah a
12:25little detail about reserves as well that might be worth noticing noticing is at the top the balance of
12:30power bar you might notice that it has a little divot and another section that basically indicates how many
12:35units are in the field and how many units are still to come in so you can see that still
12:39have a little
12:39bit of units to come in from yesterday and the development process is kind of hiding the the orc bar
12:43but i believe they have deployed everything at this point so no more surprises from the orcs yeah we've
12:47got a little bit more in the canon although they do have uh they do have a stomp honestly they've
12:51got
12:51a stomper yeah this is rough he's a scary guy maybe we'll make it maybe we'll make it um we
13:00really
13:00wanted to put the biggest thing uh that we could we could get away with in the total war game
13:04we we
13:05are we are we're looking at putting bigger things in later down the line of course but um yeah this
13:09will be the biggest thing we've had in a total war um so uh yeah i'm very excited about that
13:12um
13:12you're going to need that low health bane blade wheel that's going to have to shoot that stomp
13:15don't let him die yeah get around him uh awesome so you can see here he's as we kind of
13:22predicted
13:22right he's got a second wave of the guards so the first took out what they could but that's just
13:26a
13:26huge number of orcs yeah i've just managed to smash through um so now it's up to that second
13:31wave who looking i guess at the corpses of all the ones who failed before them uh having their own
13:37go at holding the line yeah thankfully there's also some covered positions at the back of the map
13:41so now this is where we're trying to make our last stand yeah and we're going to hit the panic
13:44button yeah this is the record so calling from the fleet we're going to have our lance strike uh this
13:50is a you know a hyper powerful very ap centric uh weapon you're not going to be able to use
13:55this sort of
13:56thing often um it is it is a really a wow okay he's still almost almost there we go he's
14:04probably
14:05he's probably on his way out he's starting to pop there we go nice congratulations oh you're out of
14:09the other ones boom
