00:00I think Anthony Volpe has a really decent shot to be an average or even better than average player as
00:08a second baseman outside New York, playing next to a good shortstop.
00:12I think the pressure on him here, because he's the Jersey kid who is the first round draft choice, who
00:17grew up loving Jeter, who wants it so badly here, and the hype that went into him winning the job
00:24in 23, you know, and haunted and followed him.
00:28And the Yankees' relentless belief in not trying to find another shortstop in the time where he was failing has
00:35created something that makes it very difficult to succeed here.
00:37And I just think his physicality, especially his arm, does not justify shortstop.
00:43So I think, the comp I keep using is, could he be Caleb Durbin, who's an incredibly valuable player for
00:49the Red Sox?
00:50It feels like that's in his skill set, like that's an outcome that's possible.
00:55He actually hit lefties. I mean, he was doing that up here.
00:58And I think he's tried too many swings. I think he was misserved by a philosophy taught by the Yankees
01:06that even he should lift and pull as if one size fits all.
01:10I understand the best thing you could do in baseball is pull the ball in the air. I get it.
01:14That's where the fewest outs are made.
01:16But it doesn't mean that everyone has the same fingerprints and that everyone should do it.
01:21And I don't think he should do it.
01:23And I think he should become Caleb Durbin.
01:27And like, the idea that he's the first round, he was the 30th pick in the draft, whatever he was,
01:31it was like, that's gone now.
01:33After the day you're drafted, it's just, who are you?
01:35And it's like, I think he has a chance to be a good player.
01:38I think he's a serious kid who wants to play well.
01:41He wants us so much here.
01:42I think it's actually worked against that.
