Gorilla Asante touches baby Aarde toes at Twycross Zoo in a remarkably sweet moment. Watch as the Twycross Zoo gorilla family shares gentle interactions, cheeky antics, and sudden moments of drama.
Gorilla Asante sits right in front of little Aarde, and then she suddenly starts to touch his little toes. It is almost like she is in complete awe of how small they are. It really is such a sweet moment to catch on camera.
Aarde moves away and Asante tries to touch his foot again. She follows him around, but then quickly turns around as Silverback Oumbi makes his presence known, coming barging in. He settles down for his food, but when he finishes, he pops into the back room. That is when Shufai comes walking upright, towel in hand, beating his chest before throwing the towel right towards the back door. Oumbi comes straight back out to see what on earth is going on, while Shufai makes a very swift exit.
Later on, Shanga and her son Aarde have a lovely little huddle while Aarde gets fed. I got a great close up of Aarde on the floor when suddenly Asante comes over and tries to sit on him! I have no idea what she was thinking. She quickly moved off him again though, probably because she saw my shocked face, although to be honest I do not think anything can shock me anymore in the animal world.
To finish the day, Aarde has a tree branch that is hanging down, but he only looks away for one second and Shufai pulls the entire branch up, leaving poor Aarde with just the leftovers. Ozala is sitting nearby as well, throwing a few glances over, but all in all it turned out to be a fairly calm afternoon.
