05:02There probably isn't a single person watching this who doesn't already know who Dave Grohl is.
05:08Or why he is one of the most important rock stars alive today.
05:13It doesn't matter how famous he gets or how many consistently awesome albums he puts out.
05:21Or how many insanely high profile side projects he finds time for.
05:26Dave is still the hardcore punk rock kid who can go anywhere in the world.
05:31But never ever forgets where he came from.
05:35And it's that above all which makes Dave a true godlike genius.
05:40Let's have a look at the man in action.
05:43Some people are great dramas.
05:47Some people are great guitarists.
05:52Dave is both.
05:54And then some people are great musicians.
05:56And some people are great people.
05:58And he's both again.
05:59He is the bringer of the thunder.
06:01He's on Mount Rockmore.
06:02I'm really proud to have Dave as my friend.

06:06I once made a t-shirt that said I love Dave Grohl.
06:08He's probably one of the most influential musicians of the last 20 years.
06:12I think nobody would disagree with that.
06:14He's an icon.
06:15Dave is a natural.
06:17He's a natural asshole.
06:20What's incredible with Dave is that, you know, he was part of a movement.
06:26He changed music.
06:30I first became aware of Dave in Nirvana.
06:37The thing I noticed is that there was this maniac at the back just thrashing for whatever his life was
06:43worth at the time.
06:45There was a hell of a noise and he seemed to drive the whole band.
06:47When he sits down, it's almost like sitting in his living room.
06:52He becomes the drums.
06:57Oh man, he's one of the best drummers I ever saw, you know, in my life.
07:01Really.
07:02I'll drink to that.
07:04Because of the way he drums, it's all very physical.
07:08You can't miss him.
07:09And I like that.
07:15I love playing live with Dave.
07:17It's fun because you just sort of forget that everyone else is there.
07:20And you turn around and you see that big old grin and a bunch of hair flying around.
07:23And you sort of feel like you're about to pull a robbery with some of the best bank robbers in
07:27the world.
07:32Playing live on stage with him is very, very exciting.
07:35I mean, he's bloody loud, but it's really good fun.
07:38Just to be six feet from him while he's playing is goosebumps.
07:45I think your godlike genius award is very fitting because that's what I felt.
07:49I felt like I was in the heavens with Zeus, the god of gods, playing fucking drums.
07:57I met Dave Grohl at the Liverpool Sound Show and I asked him if he wanted to come sit in
08:03with us for a treat for the fans.
08:09We had a great time. The crowd loved him coming on and he played great.
08:14All my life I've been searching for something.
08:17Dave is a natural front man.
08:21Now he's the best there is in the business as far as I'm concerned.
08:25I can't think of anybody in rock and roll who's any better at controlling 80,000 people.
08:33I don't know a front man as ferocious and giving and exciting as him on stage.
08:48Dave Grohl, honestly, in my opinion, is one of the greatest songwriters and greatest performers of all time.
08:56If you take that scream and monkey wrench.
09:01I would say that is a pretty good noise that I would associate with Dave Grohl.
09:05Having Dave on our album was a lot like touching God's balls.
09:13He can be humble and that's part of his genius.
09:18If he ever wanted to, he could very easily have a second career in the comedic acting realm.
09:26A lot of nice people in rock, but he's the nicest.
09:29Sometimes I get a bit unnerved by niceness because you think someone's got an agenda,
09:33but I don't think he's got an agenda.
09:34And if he has, he's playing a long game with it.
09:40Dave's a real craftsman.
09:42You know, he's not the tortured genius.
09:44He's like really a craftsman, you know?
09:46Whether it's playing drums or being a lead singer or producing.
09:50He just picks things up really easily.
09:52Like, started playing piano a couple albums back,
09:56and like two months later he's playing on the record.
09:58He's really, he's the best at whatever he's focusing on at that moment.
10:05The guy's a genius, and he deserves this.
10:08He plays drums like John Bonham,
10:09plays rhythm guitar like Pete Townsend,
10:12and he writes these amazing great pop songs, you know?
