We chat to FFAF at Reading '07 about the differences between US and UK festivals and signing strange things at festivals.
Transcript
00:00Hi, I'm Gareth.
00:02I'm Matt.
00:02And we're in Fino for a Friend.
00:05We've just finished up our rather lengthy and special NME sign-in.
00:10It's our second of the weekend.
00:12And probably the most fun, really, because there was a duck involved.
00:16Not a live one.
00:17A mallard.
00:17A plastic one.
00:19It's the first plastic duck I've ever signed.
00:21I don't think anybody...
00:22There was no explanation.
00:23There was no explanation as to why the duck was present.
00:25Just, as with any festival, there's no need for explanation.
00:28It wasn't worship, like some sort of God.
00:31It was an idol.
00:31It's a false idol.
00:32It wasn't made out of gold.
00:34Shame, really.
00:35I guess, being the state of the country these days, you can't make a duck out of gold.
00:39These days.
00:41But, you know.
00:42Fair dues.
00:42Fair dues to them.
00:43Favourite Reading experience for me would have to be when we played the...
00:47We headlined the BBC Radio 1 tent about two and a half, three years ago, was it?
00:52Yeah.
00:53And we flew in from the States jet-lagged as fuck just to play the Carlin Weekend.
00:58And to have a tent full of people singing your words back to you was a shot in the arm
01:04for
01:05me, I know, because coming from America where you're playing to like between 50 and 100
01:09people to like almost like 10,000 people.
01:12It's a big difference.
01:13It's pretty nice.
01:14And it was a nice feeling.
01:14It made me feel all warm and fuzzy inside.
01:16Aww.
01:17What's it like?
01:18Yeah, riding on the funeral for Brent Overs is pretty chill.
01:21It's like riding a donkey.
01:23A donkey on the beach.
01:24A fast speed.
01:25Down Brighton Beach.
01:26Or Puthcall Beach even.
01:28Or Puthcall Beach even.
01:28Daniela Carrot down his mouth, you know.
01:30It'll get tired eventually and it might break down.
01:33But we'll get there in the end.
01:35I read a lot when I'm on the bus to be honest.
01:37I quite like my bunk.
01:38And I quite like how quiet it is in comparison to some places.
01:41I like watching some movies and some TV shows.
01:44I really am enjoying the remake of the Battlestar Galactica TV show thing.
01:49It's amazing.
01:51And then again, I'm a big science fiction fanboy so there we go.
01:54Reading or Leeds?
01:55To be honest, I can't really choose between either Reading or Leeds.
01:59There's no favouritism because they both are like...
02:02That's a fuck off that, isn't it?
02:03They're both fantastic festivals in their own right and we enjoy playing both.
02:08We didn't actually see anybody in Leeds when we played, did we, this weekend?
02:13Lost Prophets are good though.
02:17Previously, it was a band I remember watching called Dark Star.
02:21And that's a long time ago.
02:23That's like before, that might be the 90s.
02:24It is.
02:25Well, that was 2000.
02:26It was 2000.
02:26On the cusp.
02:27In the radio one tent and they were absolutely outstanding.
02:30And they were one of Britain's best kept secrets because nobody really heard of them.
02:34Yeah, it's very hard.
02:35Festivals are very difficult when it comes to bands because it's...
02:38Not always the best situation to watch a band really.
02:41You know, the sound is not always, maybe not always that great.
02:44Marcy was good though.
02:46They do's Marcy.
02:47He was good.
02:48Who's alright?
02:48Who would we like to push into a festival toilet, Garrett?
02:50Do we get to push the toilet over is the question?
02:52Absolutely, you do.
02:53Erm, who would I put in?
02:59I don't know, there's a long list of people really.
03:01Noel Edmonds.
03:02Noel Edmonds.
03:03He needs a good shit in on.
03:04Can you imagine a shitty weave on Noel Edmonds?
03:07Full of that blue rinse.
03:08That blue rinse in it.
03:09No.
03:10No.
03:10No.
03:10No.
03:10No.
03:11No.
03:12No.
03:14No.
03:14No.
03:14You
