Esports World Cup: 'More than 150,000 tickets sold' at the halfway mark

"We sold more than 40,000 tickets in the first two days. Today, we are at more than 150,000," Mohammed Al Nimer, a chief commercial officer of the Esports World Cup Foundation, tells reporters in Paris on the sidelines of an event at the Champs-Elysees. Running from July 6 to August 23, largely at the Paris Expo Porte de Versailles venue, the Esports World Cup brings together 25 tournaments across a range of video game titles, from Valorant to Rocket League, and features more than 2,000 players representing some 200 clubs from 100 countries. "So the goal for us very much is scale and to reach new fans, reach new audiences," adds Mike McCabe, COO of the Esports World Cup Foundation.

00:04When we made the move to Paris one of the thing the first things that we did was actually to
00:09reach
00:09out to the big three French clubs so we sat down with Common Corp we sat down with Vitality and
00:15Gentlemates and asked them how do we make this event your event how do we make this authentic
00:21to French gamers to Paris and so they've been incredibly supportive and here at this event we
00:27we dedicated space so we could actually have all three of the big three clubs here and what they've
00:33been able to do is is help steer us in the right direction to make sure that this is the
00:38most
00:38successful event that we can build but they've also bought their incredible fan base
00:49I mean for us we we literally spend 10 months of the year designing and planning everything and then
00:55eight weeks out to then have to throw that away and start again was the biggest challenge so the
01:01really short time frame that we had to be able to to design and bring all of the equipment that
01:07was
01:07already some of it on its way to Riyadh and turn that around and bring it to Paris but the
01:14team
01:14pulled together and so we have an incredible partnership with the publishers with the clubs as
01:20well but also with the city of Paris and with the government to be able to help facilitate this
01:25incredible event
01:26at this competition so at 16 games there's a final class which in general is the
01:34medium of the nations so on some games obviously
01:37and what are the favorite nations and what are the most敵ers in France in this competition
01:55So the goal for us very much is scale and to reach new fans, reach new audiences, but
02:02it really is to be able to achieve that status as a global sport and have the players that
02:08are competing on the stage at the moment be recognized in the same way as a professional
02:13footballer is or as a musician is, as a celebrity.
02:17We want to create those pathways for young men and women around the world to be able
02:22to compete.
03:06We want to create those pathways for young men and women around the world to be able to
03:07be able to compete in the same way as a professional sport.
