00:03So we move into the third and final round of what has been an utterly enthralling
00:0855kg bantamweight gold medal bout between two hotshot youngsters.
00:13Jai Dixon, 21 years of age from Australia, boxed beautifully in the opening round,
00:17only to be edged out on a 3-2 split. He continued in the same vein in the second round
00:22and took it unanimously. That gives us three tight scorecards of 19 points apiece.
00:27JS Mandengbang leading 20 points to 18 for two of the five scoring judges.
00:32He left the red corner, did Dixon, with the instructions from his corner
00:36that were filled with positive encouragement.
00:39You've got this, speed, the round of your life, don't stay there.
00:43Can he execute those instructions to a tee as he bids for his second consecutive come-from-behind win?
00:54Mandengbang trying to power on the pressure here, his corner way,
00:57imploring him to go forward, be busy, but very good footwork there. La Fusher.
01:03Right hand jumps the head back of Mandengbang before the two boxers tumble to the canvas
01:08in an untidy tussle. Minute gone, and Mandengbang, the soldier from the Indian Army,
01:14aware of the status of the contest and the momentum which must have tilted in the direction of Dixon
01:21because he simply cannot evade that orthodox backhand.
01:25There he scored with it once again.
01:27Bustling down to the body is Mandengbang on the inside.
01:31He's spoken to about keeping his head up just beyond the halfway stage, and there's a right cross,
01:36left jab followed by another right cross. Mandengbang trying to turn it into a trade-off,
01:40but the more accurate worker with that right hand is Dixon drawing that coming together.
01:49Mandengbang trying to let hooks go at mid-range, but now Dixon back on his bike once again, keeping the
01:54movement going.
01:55Mandengbang scores with a good right hook to the body, reaches for a left hook to the body,
01:59but only to run into a right uppercut as he sought to disengage.
02:03Hooks scything around the corner and around the rear of the gloves of Mandengbang.
02:07Dixon up on his toes now, dancing with his hands contemptuously down by his kneecaps,
02:12and he in something of a flow state. Mandengbang having his moments as he steals a furtive glance to his
02:18blue corner,
02:18but with 40 seconds remaining, Dixon continuing to box very effectively indeed.
02:24Dixon was told go out there and have the round of your life, and he's really in a beautiful flow
02:28now.
02:28Picking off his shorts, and that rear uppercut was a lovely short, knocking the head back of Mandengbang earlier.
02:34Some outstanding boxes have claimed this bantamweight title.
02:38In preceding editions, the Welsh-witted Howard Winston back in 1958,
02:42World Title Challenger Birmingham's Pat Cowdell in 1974,
02:45McGuigan, Finbar McGuigan, Barry McGuigan in 1978,
02:48before a Hall of Fame career that saw him ascend to the WPA featherweight title.
02:53And it looks as though Jai Dixon is about to emulate the accomplishments of his compatriot Robbie Peden in 1994,
03:00but Mandengbang on the 10-second clapper exploded into life with a furious combination to conclude the contest.
03:08Remember, we had three tied scores of 19 points apiece.
03:13Mandengbang led 20 points to 18 for two of the five judges,
03:19and that means he only has to take the final round for one of the observers that had it 19
03:25-19,
03:26and he could well nick a 3-2 split.
03:29But after three completed rounds of boxing, I am left with the impression that the man in the red vest
03:35did enough.
03:36Which way are the scores going to go? How will they be distributed?
03:40This one could well be split.
03:42Who will have their hands raised as the victor here at the end of a really competitive 55-kilogram bantamweight
03:50final?
03:52Nervous moments for both of the boxers after a terrific three three-minute rounds of action.
04:04We have a unanimous decision.
04:10The winner and Commonwealth Games champion in the red corner from Australia, Jai Dixon!
04:25Overcome with emotion at having been declared a unanimous points decision victor over Jadumani Singh, Mandengbang of India.
04:35It's his second consecutive come-from-behind victory.
04:38As was edged out on a 3-2 split in the opening round.
04:42He boxed masterfully in rounds two and three.
04:46And now the enormity of his accomplishment is beginning to sink in.
04:50The 21-year-old from Australia has added his name to an illustrious roll call.
04:57Emulating the accomplishments of his compatriot Wabi Peden who struck gold in this division in Victoria 1994.
05:04But what a magnificent series of displays Jai Dixon has produced over the course of this bantamweight bracket.
05:12None better than in securing a come-from-behind victory over Jadumani Singh, Mandengbang.
05:18The electrifying 22-year-old out of the Indian Army.
05:22It was the only one isECKS.
05:32It was a big surprise in that day for the first-year-old after UTI.
05:32I was happy that I found it.
