01:20I'm Scott Douglas. I'll be calling the action along to analyze Mark Schrader, trying to look at the Devastator and
01:26the Felic.
01:26Two racing champions, or two championships tonight, but the first is in racing, and that's where Dennis Anderson and the
01:33Grave Digger has been on a roll.
01:35He comes in here, everyone, 12 of the last 14 events. He's competed in. He's the number one seed. He
01:41was the fastest qualifier.
01:42Mark, can anybody derail the Grave Digger Express?
01:45Dennis Anderson has been on a rail all weekend. He looks fantastic. However, Tom Benson, Max, he definitely has more
01:52left in that truck.
01:53Lindsey Wake has been super fast all weekend. Pablo Huffinger speaks for himself.
01:57Candice Jolly, she's in the top five this year, and don't count out Jimmy Green.
02:01And then we get to the second championship. That is freestyle.
02:05Tom Benson, Max, with destruction, amazed the world in Arlington about a month ago.
02:10Can he do it again? One incredible event. We're going to crown two world championships, and you've got the best
02:15seat.
02:16It's the Advanced Auto Parts, Monster Jam World Finals 12, presented by NGK Sparkplugs on CBS here in Las Vegas.
02:25Let's begin by taking a look at the ultimate field of trucks, including two World Finals rookies, Jeremy Slipko and
02:31Batgraft, Norm Miller and Batman.
02:33And the number five qualifier this year, moving up three spots from last year, is Candice Jolly in Monster Mutt
02:39Dalmatian.
02:40Veteran Chad Borgian qualified in the top eight for the first time ever in Superman.
02:44And remember, Alex Blackwell was in the championship race two years ago.
02:47And Jimmy Kohler's been looking super bad fast all year long in racing.
02:51And George Balhan, the punk with all the junk in the Warrior.
02:54The Advanced Auto Parts Grinder team will split the effort, Frank Kreml Races and Luby Sosa Freestyle.
02:59And Tom Mentz, the only eight-time world champion in maximum destruction.
03:03And Dennis Anderson, the reigning champion in racing last year in this year's fast qualifier.
03:08He earned that fast qualifier designation last night, winning the Double Down Award, and he is pumped up for this
03:15effort.
03:17I want to burn down the racing.
03:18I want to try to hold on to that title.
03:20And I've been on a good running, winning spree all season long.
03:25So I just want to stay on that same track here.
03:27I think I have more inspiration and drive than I ever have to pull off another world championship.
03:33Mark, we're going to go on board on the one that got Anderson the number one seat.
03:38Out of the starting line, makes the turn, down into the chicane, through Thunder Alley, and into the straightaway.
03:44Here he's hitting speeds of 60-plus miles an hour.
03:47He's looking at that turn and focusing.
03:49This year on this track, the turn is absolutely perfect.
03:52And he shows that pulling off the number one qualifying spot.
03:55He had to be that good to take the number one seed because Tom Mintz was right there with him.
04:01Look at that.
04:02One one-hundredth of a second separates the top two.
04:05Then a slight gap, but still not much to play with among that top eight.
04:09But I want to point out number nine, Jimmy Creighton and the Bounty Hunter.
04:11No one has ever won the world championship coming from deeper than eight.
04:15And your bottom three all had trouble in the turn.
04:18All rolled over for a DNQ.
04:20The special double-down activities on Friday were culminated with Dennis Anderson getting the coveted double-down champion trophy
04:28as the fastest qualifier for the 12th edition of the Advanced Auto Parts Monster Jam World Finals.
04:35Now, all of those times are used to see into the first-round bracket.
04:39The top eight automatically go to round two, and we start marching toward a championship next on CBS.

05:19Here's what we were talking about earlier.
05:21The top eight are seated right into round two.
05:23And round one, as it is every year, is an absolute war.
05:28And one race we're going to focus on, Mark, in round one.
05:30Two of the best drivers, surprisingly, have to meet in round one.
05:33Young superstars, Alex Blackwell and Captain's Curse, Adam Anderson, a great big of a legend.
05:38They met up in round number one.
05:45Adam Anderson is out on Alex Blackwell, but he had trouble here in this turn.
05:50He can't get the truck straightened out, the back end washed up.
05:53And he's having difficulty getting across that finish line.
05:55Surprises always abound in Vegas.
05:57One of our pre-race favorites is out.
06:00Actually had an issue with the steering, front steering locked up on it.
06:03And wouldn't come back until after the truck.
06:06Because you're on it so hard and you let off.
06:08And it just loses all the fluid going to the front steering.
06:12So the top eight advanced without Adam Anderson, including Bounty Hunter, as he will take on Spider-Man.
06:19We look at the round two brackets.
06:21The top eight seeds against the eight winners from round number one.
06:25Now, as we take a look at highlights from round number two.
06:27Again, want to focus on a race that had everybody buzzing.
06:31Candice Jolly in the Monster Mutt Dalmatian versus George Bellhand in the Mohawk Warrior.
06:37The mark already.
06:42Bellhand was having to make up ground because Candice beat him so bad out of the hole.
06:45But Bellhand is coming back and watching his finish.
06:50That right there, Scott, is as close as it gets.
06:54Looking at the replay, I think I had him at the start of the finish line.
06:58I'm really not sure what they're doing up there.
07:00In my opinion, Candice Jolly got the win in Monster Mutt Dalmatian.
07:04But the opinion that matters is the officials.
07:06George Bellhand, Mohawk Warrior, moves on.
07:09Another great matchup in round two.
07:11Frank Kreml in the advanced auto parts grinder, taking on always fast Mark McDonald in El Toro Loco.
07:18Watch as they come to the turn.
07:20Kreml has to let it all hang out because he's so far behind.
07:23And he goes in way too deep.
07:25And over she goes.
07:27El Toro Loco.
07:28Mark McDonald again advances into the semifinals.
07:31Grinder's done.
07:33I swung it around.
07:33I thought I was going to get it.
07:35But it piked up.
07:36And as I saw the wall coming, it wasn't a whole lot I could do.
07:39And Mark got me.
07:41He beat me.
07:41And I feel bad for all the advanced auto parts people.
07:44They're great backers.
07:45And I can't thank the Grinder team enough for letting me do this.
07:47But who knows?
07:49Let's see what Loopy can do in freestyle.
07:51So now we are down to the final eight in this 12th edition of the Battle of the Crown of
07:56the World Racing Champion.
07:57And look at the matchups, including Digger and Bounty Hunter at the top of the bracket.
08:01And at the bottom, Chad Tingler has been making some noise with good times with Spider-Man.
08:06He'll meet Tom Vince later.
08:07We begin this quarterfinal round of action with a rematch of the World Championship Race from 2006 when Dennis Anderson
08:15and Grave Digger beat Jimmy Creighton, the Bounty Hunter.
08:18Can he do it again to keep his string alive?
08:24As they thunder off Thunder Alley, Dennis Anderson with a bit of an edge.
08:29Creighton's going to have to cover by it.
08:30Oh, my goodness.
08:31Dennis Anderson with a pump of smoke.
08:33And Jimmy Creighton will pull it out at the finish line.
08:36He's got problems.
08:36You can hear it's only running on half a motor there.
08:39And you take a look here on the left, that bright red light, he has no oil pressure.
08:44I felt the motor start shaking down the straightaway.
08:47And the motor didn't really turn out as good as it normally did.
08:50But it threw a rod is what it was doing.
08:52And it threw a rod right out of the side of the block.
08:56Bounty Hunter, the first truck to qualify for the semifinals.
08:59Now it's the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle and Mohawk Warrior squaring off.
09:03And Pablo Huffaker, who has finished as high as second in this bracket before, won't do it this time.
09:09George Bellhand, for the first time in his career, will advance into the Final Four.
09:13Then, the Lucas Oil Crusader, Lindsey Wing, against Mark McDonald and El Toro Loco.
09:19It's been a fantastic year for Wing.
09:21And it will continue as he will go into the semifinal round, defeating El Toro with a brilliant time of
09:271584.
09:28Tom Best, maximum destruction, the eight-time world champ,
09:31has to take on a Team Gravedigger driver, Chad Tingler, putting the Spider-Man body on his Digger truck.
09:46With Gravedigger eliminated, Mintz figures to be the man to beat, but Tingler's right there with him.
09:51Off the final turn, they head for home, and Tom Mintz, who wins more than anybody ever in the history
09:58of this racetrack,
09:59will win another one, and maximum destruction at 1568, will advance to what should be a showdown of bad, fast
10:07trucks,
10:08when he will meet Lindsey Wing and the Lucas Oil Crusader in the second semifinal race.
10:13The first semifinal will match Bounty Hunter and Mohawk Warrior, and it's all next.

19:57Mark, the problem is his time is about a second slower than these two guys.
20:01Tom Mentz and Max D, Lindsey Wink and Lucas Oil, they've been in the 15.6, 15.7 range, which
20:08is a second faster than Jimmy Creighton.
20:10So he has got his work cut out for him.
20:11But first, it's Lindsey Wink and Tom Mentz and Max D.
20:21Wink, as good as he's been, has never made it to the world championship race.
20:25Can he upset Tom Mentz?
20:27No, it will not happen this time.
20:28On his lid is the Lucas Oil Crusader, and Tom Mentz's pursuit of a ninth world championship continues with the
20:35fastest time of the night.
20:38But for Lindsey Wink, pursuit's over.
20:41Truck was running good.
20:42I knew where I was going to lose was in the corner, because I've been kind of struggling all night
20:46to make a nice, smooth corner.
20:48You know, it's no one's fault by my own.
20:53The disappointment is obvious when you get to this level.
20:57No one has been more disappointed in this round, in the history of this event, than that truck and that
21:02driver.
21:02Jimmy Creighton and the Bounty Hunter.
21:04He has a fifth opportunity to do what he's never done, and that's win the world racing championship.
21:09The problem is, the man who owns this place, that last win, by the way, the 30th all-time racing
21:16victory on this track in the 12-year history of this event for Tom Mentz.
21:20That's how good he has been from day one in Las Vegas.
21:24Tom will go for world championship number nine.
21:27Jimmy Creighton's won the freestyle title before, but this is the one he dreams about at night, the world racing
21:33championship.
21:34Is he finally about to make history, or does Tom Mentz extend the greatest record of all time?
21:40The Advanced Auto Parts Monster Jam World Finals 12 has come down to the world championship race.
21:46Maximum Destruction and Bounty Hunter looking for green.
21:55Reaching the fastest speed they will reach anywhere in the world all year.
22:00Bounty Hunter had the lead, but Mentz has made it to the ground.
22:02And for the ninth time, Tom Mentz is Monster Jam's world champion.
22:07Maximum Destruction has done it again.
22:11Tom Mentz, always in this place, in this house, can never be taken lightly.
22:21Absolutely and well-deserved, Tom Mentz, again, as you said, nine-time world champion, unparalleled to anybody.
22:29Everybody, no one will be able to catch up to those numbers, ever.
22:33For the record, five world racing championships now to go with four world freestyle titles.
22:38So he tops in all the categories.
22:41Dennis Anderson, the second on the racing list with three and with four overalls.
22:45Well, that's how far clear of the pack Tom Mentz is.
22:48And you can see it's bad to cover everywhere to celebrate another Max D World title.
22:55All I got to say is I didn't even come here to win racing.
22:59I came here to win freestyle.
23:05So what happens next?
23:07I'm going to do my best to double down for you guys.
23:10Because now, I'm playing on a free card.
23:13And I got no reason to bring that thing home in one piece.
23:16That's a brand new truck this year.
23:18A lot of people said it wasn't a very good race truck.
23:20But you know what?
23:22We built it right there in Paxton.
23:24We built it in our shop.
23:25We brought it out here.
23:26We proved to the world it'll win.

23:33Not to correct Mr. Mentz, but I think it's really he's playing on house money.
23:37When he goes for the freestyle championship, he's got nothing to lose.
23:41But he's got to beat the other 23 top performers in the sport to do what he wants to do.
23:47And that's when both world titles.
23:48Mentz goes for it against the best next.

24:02Now, who will win the world freestyle title?
24:04There's 24 trucks, and every one of those trucks at some point in time throughout the weekend
24:08are going to have to be beaten.
24:09Crossing stuff, Bob, the big jumps, maybe some pogo jumps, maybe going back to some old school stuff.
24:16I'm excited about freestyle.
24:17I'm ready to go out there and turn this thing on and try to rock that roller.
24:20When I get into that bonus round, I'm going to step the fuel up a little bit.
24:23When I've got about eight seconds left, show me like I do.
24:26I'm going down.
24:27You're going to have to be technical.
24:28You're going to have to use your full time and try and make some kind of different move
24:32to be special out there and impress the judges.
24:36By far, this is the best freestyle track ever.
24:39I think you're going to see so many different moves, so many different combinations,
24:43and 24 different drivers hitting it in different ways.
24:46It's going to be awesome.
24:48It's a little intimidating, but all the better when I take home a trophy and show everybody what's up.
24:53The judges are critical here.
24:55They are more technically inclined than anywhere else we go.
24:58They want to see that style.
25:00They want to see the wow factor, and you better use all of the clock.
25:04And as the 24 trucks hit the track, it's been thought nobody could ever win from the number one spot.
25:10Cam McQueen did not let that get in his head as he came out and set the bar arguably, Mark,
25:16as high as we've ever seen it right off the bat.
25:18It absolutely was, and that's the way this sport is going.
25:22Every single one of these trucks has the wow factor capability,
25:26and they know they have to bring it here to this track in Las Vegas to make that happen.
25:31And the wow factor is coming hard and heavy with 24 trucks.
25:36Mark, this is the kind of thing the judges are looking for.
25:39That was perfectly executed.
25:41This track is designed to put it on the driver.
25:44The onus is on the driver to do spectacular things.
25:49The man who hit the first ever backflip in competition a year ago in Jacksonville, Florida,
25:54now becomes the first ever to hit a backflip in the World Finals competition.
26:00McQueen has done it again.
26:02And it's the technical moves like that, the style, the uniqueness.
26:06That's what the judges are looking for.
26:08Six judges scored regulation.
26:10We brought the high score, brought the low score,
26:12so we got 30 from the four that were counted, plus two bonus points.
26:16That's a huge opening score.
26:18In a technical move like this, Cam planned this.
26:20He went for the backflip and had the presence of mind to keep driving.
26:25And I said, you know what?
26:26You guys are going to put me first.
26:28I'm going to go for it.
26:29This is Vegas.
26:29I ain't laying down for nobody.
26:31Edward Nitro Circus.
26:32We're going to set the bar, and we're setting it high.
26:34So I hope the bar's way up here, and this chair stays right here under my butt.
26:38The hot seat is where the driver will sit all night long
26:42as Vegas rookie Norm Miller, driving Batman, came out.
26:45Big air right off the bat as we look at some of his highlights.
26:48A beautiful job here.
26:50But couldn't bring it back.
26:52And obviously that very unique Batman body is now souvenirs for a lot of people.
26:57It certainly is.
26:58Candice Jolly and the Monster Mutt Dalmatian comes out big right off the bat.
27:03She's very technical in her driving.
27:05She walked this track and actually hit everything she said she was going to do,
27:10and she nailed it perfectly with great slap wheelies and monster air.
27:14A phenomenal run for Candice Jolly with the Monster Mutt Dalmatian early on in second place.
27:19Everything I did is exactly how I wanted to hit everything,
27:21so I'm really happy with it.
27:23It's not a back foot like Cam, but I'm happy with it either way.
27:28Score to beat, remaining 32.
27:30Chad Fortune and Superman, the next to go after Cam McQueen and Nitro Circle.
27:35And certainly making Superman fly, I would have to say,
27:38is probably one of the best performances we've seen here
27:40from Chad Fortune and Superman at the World Finals.
27:43Look at that, walking it all the way across the track,
27:47staying with it with a combo move, setting it on the cape.
27:51That may, in essence, show you what the judges are looking for.
27:55Unique, good scores for Superman, a total of 19.
27:59And we continue to look at Brutus.
28:01Watch Chris Bergeron, always wow factors when he's on the track.
28:06Chris has the presence of mind to keep it upright, straight up and down.
28:10Catwalking across, hits this monster obstacle.
28:13It ends up on his roof.
28:16He had no idea what was going to happen with that hit.
28:18He walked away, he's okay, because that was quite a fall from the sky
28:22and had the fans on their feet again in the Battle for the World Freestyle Championship.
28:28Iron Man and Lee O'Donnell came out big right off the bat.
28:32He has got some cross-thread moves, we haven't seen that yet tonight.
28:36This is a great obstacle again.
28:38These were designed by the drivers, and he's able to walk that all the way down
28:42the back half of that ramp, now get out there and get this huge air.
28:46Lee O'Donnell and Iron Man is after a World Finals freestyle title.
28:54One of the most expensive bodies of the sport, by the way,
28:58also has to be totally replaced.
29:01Great moves from O'Donnell.
29:02And the New Jersey driver, with that performance, moved into second place,
29:07further emphasizing what a big number Cam McQueen has as the leader.
29:10But we're not even halfway through this amazing display of talent
29:14and freestyle excitement, so don't you dare go away.
