00:02One of Rome's oldest trades is at risk of disappearing for good.

00:08A bill was presented to the Chamber of Deputies that, if approved,

00:12would ban poticelle, the typical horse-drawn carriages,

00:16particularly common in major tourist cities, first and foremost, Rome.

00:23The proposal calls for the repeal of Article 70 of the Highway Code,

00:27which regulates public transportation services using animal-drawn vehicles,

00:32thereby permitting their operation.

00:37Today's streets, in fact, are not suitable for the animals' wellbeing.

00:42Furthermore, the extreme temperatures of recent days

00:45make it impossible for horses to travel given the scorching asphalt.
