00:04This is the season which is really going to give the fans what they've been waiting for.
00:07It's very powerful, very dark.
00:09The various creatures that we've created, it's very intense.
00:14We get to see the Balrog take on this rooted, nuanced, layered look.
00:20We've seen the flame many times now, but what does it look like when it's simmering?
00:25For people who are fans of Tolkien to be able to see something like that on screen,
00:28it's really kind of amazing.
00:30We have the most incredible prosthetics team making the most amazing monsters.
00:35Season 3 is definitely a different beast for us.
00:37We've had a lot more dialogue with orcs, and we've had several hero orcs.
00:41Introduce yourself, sir.
00:43Hello.
00:44We always work very closely with VFX, and I think throughout Season 3,
00:48there were quite a lot of elements that we had to go hand in hand.
00:52There's this seamless blend between all the different techniques that come together to create things.
00:58I am taken across the desert on this giant Moomakil that's got war armor on it.
01:04We're going to get on this.
01:05Can you believe this?
01:05This kit is extraordinary.
01:07Here we go.
01:08Jason with his team, when we talk about magic, there's very little that I do that isn't massively enhanced by
01:14them.
01:14I love to approach a creature like I'm an actor who is taking on that character, how they would move,
01:20how they would act.
01:21And when you talk about like Thelbeasts, Tolkien talked about them as he might have referenced a pterodactyl.
01:26These are creatures that flap and then rise and then fall.
01:32It really brings these creatures to life, but adds to the magic and gives you that feeling that you're really
01:38a middle-earth.
01:42Probably three minutes on my lap.
01:45One of the things that will surprise people this season is that we get to hear the voice of our
01:49Balrog.
01:50The Balrog has dialogue.
01:52Just that alone was a crazy sort of like, you know, undertaking.
01:56And our brilliant and amazing casting director, Theo Park, said, what about Simon?
02:01My dad read me The Hobbit and I can remember him doing all the voices.
02:06So it's been a big part of my life, I guess, since I was a little boy.
02:10He said one of his children has a little Balrog toy.
02:12So I think he was thrilled to be able to bring that to life.
02:15To be given the opportunity to play such a pivotal character was such an exciting prospect.
