Ghana is mourning the loss of Sulemana Abdul Samed, affectionately known as "Awuche," whose extraordinary height and warm personality made him a beloved figure across the country. The 33-year-old passed away in a hospital in Tamale after complications from infected leg sores. Diagnosed with Marfan syndrome in his 20s, he measured 7 feet 4 inches (223 cm) when the BBC recorded his height in 2022, though relatives believe he had grown even taller. Despite living with severe health challenges that affected his mobility and daily life, Awuche remained known for his kindness, generosity, and positive spirit. His story brought national attention to his hometown of Gambaga, making it widely recognized throughout Ghana. In recent months, businessman Ibrahim Mahama had stepped in to support his medical treatment. Family members say his passing has left a deep void, with mourners continuing to gather to honor the gentle giant's remarkable legacy.
