00:00We're so type A. We're like on it very much in the details. Everything that was
00:06present had our touch, had our thought in it. They were like, okay, yeah, now I and Jordan did this,
00:11yeah, that makes sense.
00:18We actually went to the University of Virginia, UVA, wah-wah.
00:23She was helping me out throughout that process and we became good friends.
00:28I actually joined my sorority, Alpha Kappa Alpha. Sorority incorporated that semester and then the following semester, he pledged Alpha
00:37Phi Alpha.
00:38I was like, I should probably let her take the time to see if I can shoot my shot here
00:43and it ended up working out.
00:44We gelled together, we worked really well together and the friendship just ballooned into something special.
00:51We were at my apartment in Brooklyn one evening and we were getting ready to make dinner
00:56and all of a sudden she had fell out in really excruciating pain.
01:01Always stress your body because I knew that pain was different.
01:05I was like, okay, we have to go to the hospital just to see what's going on.
01:09So I rushed her to the hospital, the closest emergency room in Brooklyn.
01:13I ended up finding out that I have a very rare condition called microadenomatosis.
01:20Throughout that entire experience, you know, a lot of nights in the hospital, through a lot of sleeping next to
01:26her, next to her hospital bed.
01:28I think that's when I knew that I don't want to be with anyone else.
01:31I couldn't be with anyone else, really. I knew that I had to be by her side.
01:35And Jordan being by my side, I felt comfortable, I felt protected.
01:40I didn't even have to ask for anything.
01:42It was just like, wow, this is a man, this is a husband, you know?
01:47We got engaged in March of 2019 and the whole engagement process, you know, the day of,
01:54we have like a light brunch at a restaurant on the Upper West Side.
01:58She thought initially it was going to happen at the restaurant there.
02:02I thought it was going to happen at brunch. I did a video and everything.
02:05He doesn't know, but I definitely know I was about to go down.
02:09I was like, hey guys, I'm about to be away in like a personal video to myself.
02:14I just knew it was going to happen.
02:15I'll see you guys when I make fun.
02:20He like completely threw me off because it didn't happen there.
02:24So I'm like, oh, maybe today's not the day.
02:26So she got all dressed up in the bathroom and stuff, all impressed again to another Uber.
02:30I rented out a hangar at the American Air Power Museum in Long Island.
02:35And one of the things that, the criteria that she asked for for the proposal
02:39was she really wanted her family and friends to be there.
02:42It was really, really important for her.
02:44And so we get into a four-seater, a four-seater plane.
02:48And it's a lot like this here, test driving a car where you, the passenger flyer,
02:52like has a set of steering wheels.
02:54I went up first, then Nye gets in the seat to fly the plane.
03:00Which I'm terrified because the pilot's there, but Jordan literally had control of the plane.
03:07So he's flying it.
03:08And the co-pilot is just there to, you know, do anything in case he messes up.
03:12So when I saw him do it and then he was like, okay, now it's your turn.
03:15I was in the back, terrified, like I really don't want to fly this plane.
03:24Right before we about to take off, I blindfold her.
03:27And then the plane gets pulled into the, the hanger.
03:32Uh, there's a red carpet set up.
03:34There's a bottle of wine.
03:35There's music playing.
03:37And 50 of our closest family and friends are there.
03:40And then I get down on one knee, pop the question.
03:43Right after I said yes, everyone was like, yay.
03:47And I turned around and it was, she said, yes, balloons.
03:50Already lined up with all my family and friends.
03:53And I just completely started bawling.
03:55I was already shaking, just like highly anticipating, like what was about to happen.
04:00And he did that.
04:01It was perfect.
04:04Instead of like pushing a wedding in 2020, we decided to just hold off and wait for 2021.
04:10And I recovered all of 2019 when we started planning at the end of the year.
04:15And after I recovered, I remember just like long days in the hospital, just thinking like, you know, God has
04:21brought us through this.
04:23I feel like we really deserve to celebrate our love in a big way, especially after being together for five
04:30years and having a longer engagement.
04:33Like we're going to go out with a bang.
04:34Like we're going to really celebrate everything that we've manifested, everything that we really like poured into each other over
04:41the years.
04:42We just felt like it had to be a testament of how happy we are and how we wanted to
04:48share that with everybody.
04:50Like make it just like grand experience.
04:53We pretty much saved up for all of our wedding.
04:58And if we were going to spend that kind of money on our wedding, we might as well invest it
05:01back into our people.
05:03So it's super, super important for us to have black vendors from our photographer all the way to our florist,
05:10to the DJ.
05:11You know, everyone was a black vendor and we try to do that throughout our personal lives as well.
05:19When we were searching for a house, we had a black real estate agent, black lender as well.
05:23Title company.
05:24Title company.
05:25And we wanted to make sure that wherever we can invest in our people, we want to make sure we
05:30do that.
05:31Like you said, weddings are expensive.
05:33So investing that dollar back into our community and they did a phenomenal job.
05:38I was like, okay, this is probably 10 times better than any of the in-house vendors that were on
05:43the list.
05:45First she came and said, I'm a queen.
05:47I'm going to get married in the castle.
05:49Hey, there's a queen in everyone.
05:52So at first it was, I thought it was a joke.
05:54I didn't know there was castles in North America.
05:57I was like, are we going to get married in England or something?
06:00She took me to 17, 17 different venues between Long Island, the city, New Jersey.
06:08So we saw everything.
06:10You know, we ended up celebrating on Monica, May 31st, 2021.
06:14Another thing that was really important for us is to have a lodging on site.
06:18And we really wanted, again, our family and friends to be a part of that moment.
06:23It's royal.
06:24It's elegant.
06:25It's beautiful.
06:26And that's how we settled on it.
06:29I'm one of seven children.
06:31So literally my three brothers were his groomsmen and my three sisters were in my bridal party.
06:39So they all stepped in and helped us.
06:42We did bridal party contracts.
06:44So everybody had a role in which I highly recommended.
06:49For example, I had a groomsmen of apparel who helped me with my groomsmen tuxes.
06:55A groomsmen of communication just for like making sure we're constantly communicating with each other.
06:59So if you can delineate as much as you possibly can to your, your bridal party, I would, I would
07:04highly recommend it.
07:05And we just really wanted to take all of our guests on that journey with us.
07:10The journey to Jackson.
07:12And so that all of that kind of went into our planning.
07:16We let our guests know that the preference would be for everyone to be vaccinated and or show a negative
07:21COVID test.
07:22So that was one of the requirements.
07:24It really did allow for people to kind of take, you know, kind of just relax and really enjoy the
07:31wedding.
07:32There was, we didn't have any masks.
07:33There was no masks.
07:34But everyone's felt generally safe.
07:37I think more so that the pandemic did impact us from a planning perspective.
07:42And I still think it limited to a certain degree the capacity that, that we were able to host it
07:46at.
07:47But the actual day of, it didn't feel like there was a pandemic going on in the world.
07:54So I found a small boutique in Soho.
07:58They're a bridal.
07:59I worked with them to make a custom dress.
08:02So no one knew that the overskirt had the same beading as the bodice.
08:08So it looked like it was just one huge dress with tulle and everything.
08:13And then at the reception, all I do is take the overskirt off, which takes a long time.
08:19I thought it all up.
08:20It was a vision that was in my head and it came to life.
08:23And it was absolutely beautiful.
08:25I knew I wanted to wear a crown.
08:27So I went to Pantor Bridal, not a black winter, and wore that with the ball gown.
08:32And it was amazing.
08:34The shoes came together.
08:36My hair was pinned up because I wanted to have that very elegant, timeless look.
08:42When she walked down the aisle, I started crying all over again.
08:45I mean, the tears and the emotion were really just...
08:49I was just overwhelmed that this day had finally come.
08:53Once she got to the altar and I was able to hold my hand, I just felt at peace.
08:58There's so many emotions.
09:00Mr. and Mrs. Jordan and Naomi Jackson, you may now kiss your bride.
09:08If we took all the love that was outside for the ceremony, we brought it in into the ballroom.
09:14So then this transition, our guests went into a separate ballroom inside of the castle for cocktail hour.
09:21And they were just excited to see us.
09:24So when we came inside...
09:26The reception was just everything we could have imagined.
09:28We worked with our entertainment, so we had specific colored uplighting.
09:32Obviously, our floors then to make sure all of the colors had come together.
09:37Two of my brethren gave incredible speeches.
09:39Her maid and Matron of Honor gave really, really great speeches.
09:43My two sisters.
09:44And everyone just danced the night away.
09:47I mean, it was just...
09:48We had...
09:48The DJ was on point.
09:50Our cake was fantastic.
09:51It was like a delicious cake.
09:52Yeah.
09:53Honestly, because we are so...
09:56I don't know.
09:57We're just like almost the same person.
09:59It feels so natural.
10:00It feels like...
10:02It was very easy to make the switch to call him my husband.
10:05I didn't have no issues.
10:06From being together as kids to now.
10:09It's like, you know, you already felt that love and genuineness.
10:13So now it's like, I don't even have this title.
10:16And going through actually having a wedding and being married now just feels so right.
10:21We love each other so much.
10:23And it literally has just been a dream come true for us to buy ourselves,
10:28pull off such a grand wedding and move into a beautiful home.
10:35We were just moving into that next step of our relationship and that transition
10:39into the next stage of our relationship.
10:41And I love it.
10:42It's honestly...
10:43It's just been a great journey and I'm really proud of us, honestly.
10:48It's something like that.
10:48It's just gonna be big.
10:49Something like that.
10:49Yeah.
10:50Love, really.
10:52It's pretty?
10:52You think so.
10:52telling course, if we love to see it wanting us to think.
