In just 60 seconds, get the full breakdown of Halo: Campaign Evolved. Is this faithful remake of the 2001 classic a must-play, or does it fail to evolve beyond its source material?
Transcript
00:00Campaign Evolved is a faithful remake of the 2001 classic that highlights exactly why the
00:06original Halo holds up so well 25 years later.
00:09While the core experience here is an FPS in its purest form, I can't help but wonder
00:14why anyone other than PS5 players should really care.
00:18The recreated gameplay holds up well, the expanded weapon sandbox is a positive, and
00:24the highly customisable difficulty options enhance replayability.
00:27However, this remake doesn't evolve the original much, the bonus levels feel pointless,
00:33and there are minor but still irritating performance drops.
00:37A modern recreation is certainly the safest option for Xbox Game Studios, and it's a
00:42solid effort that resurrects what feels like a bygone era of single player shooters, but
00:47only because it copies the genre-defining Halo Combat Evolved so closely.
00:53Why iterate on near perfection?
00:55Yet, the promise of an evolved campaign experience, like Installation 04 itself, rings hollow.
01:01And I'm left wondering if playing it safe is really what Xbox should be aiming for with
01:07Halo right now.
