00:00The situation in the Strait of Hormuz remains highly unstable. How is it affecting oil prices
00:05in Europe? Sailing through the Strait of Hormuz, a crucial shipping lane between Iran and Oman
00:15is still a dangerous venture. In recent days, there have been several reports of attacks on
00:20oil tankers by both Iran and Yemen's Iran-backed Houthi rebels. The United States insists that
00:27the passageway is open but at the same time it threatens to target Iran's bridges and
00:32power plants if the attacks continue. Experts say the latest strikes have mainly targeted
00:38large international merchant vessels rather than ships trading locally. Last month, after
00:44Washington and Tehran agreed on a ceasefire, fuel prices finally stopped inflating across
00:50Europe, if only temporarily. Compared to May, diesel prices decreased by 6.4% and
00:57petrol by 4.2% in June. The largest decreases occurred in the Czech Republic, Poland and
01:04Bulgaria. And when it comes to petrol prices, Cyprus and Italy were the only EU countries
01:09registering increases between May and June 2026. But this new phase of heightened tension
01:15disruption and disruption, with no settlement in sight, is sending fuel prices through the roof
01:20again.
