00:08roads and time may tell that some of those were preventable but at the end of the day
00:14it's just mind-blowing that we can lose six people in such a short period of time and the
00:20ongoing ripple effect for loved ones is going to be Christmas and all those times when they
00:27look to their loved ones and they're not there so my heart goes out to those people there seems to
00:32be a small proportion of West Australians that still don't think they're going to get caught
00:37and they still don't think it happens to them but I'm here to tell you that road trauma happens
00:42to real people and there's six families right now grieving that are sitting there that didn't
00:47probably think it was ever going to happen to them I talk about speed and every kilometre counts
00:53there's a lot of research that will tell you that for every kilometre you do over the speed limit
00:57there's a four to five percent chance that the outcome of that is actually going to be a fatal
01:02outcome last night it was disturbing to see that 15 people drove while they'd consumed alcohol
01:09and another 15 also drove after consuming illicit drugs so out of that operation that went through
01:16the evening into the early hours of the morning in Joondalup Entertainment Precinct that's 30 people
01:21that drove with impairment with some form of impairment simultaneously our motorbike team
01:27which do an amazing job we're out in Northbridge at three o'clock in the morning
01:33giving up their weekends and their time to go and target Northbridge and in a four-hour period we
01:39identified nine people for drink driving and another person for driving under the influence of drugs
01:44but what I say is and I've said it before loved ones and people that are dear if you see
01:49your loved ones
01:50taking risky or making risky decisions or risky behaviours it's up to you to intervene to say that
01:58to raise it that that's not good enough because people are dying out there through things that
02:03are totally preventable and it is frustrating to see that is the case
