00:05and it's a bombshell. The number of homeless people in L.A. rose 3.4 percent, and the number
00:13of unsheltered people on the streets or living in their cars rose 7.9 percent. It's the first
00:19increase since a two-year decrease that marked the early part of Karen Bass's tenure as mayor.
00:27Bass is obviously taking criticism because she ran her entire re-election campaign in the primary
00:32on the idea that she had improved homelessness in the city. The mayor is trying to blame President
00:38Donald Trump, but nobody is really buying that. Bass's opponent in the general election is Socialist
00:44City Council member Nitya Rahman. Rahman is also on the hook for these homeless numbers because she
00:50is the chair of the City Council's Committee on Housing and Homelessness, and she was absent for
00:56several committee meetings earlier this year while she focused on her run for mayor.
01:00L.A. voters are now looking at an impossible choice between Karen Bass on the one hand,
01:06who promised to lower homelessness but failed, and Nitya Rahman on the other, who was supposed
