Sen. Tammy Duckworth has launched a fiery attack on Republicans and the Trump administration over the ongoing debate surrounding IVF access for U.S. troops and military families.

The Illinois senator accused GOP lawmakers of blocking efforts related to IVF support and criticized what she called broken promises to service members. Duckworth argued that military families deserve stronger support and accountability from Washington.

The clash comes as lawmakers continue debating policies affecting veterans, active-duty troops, and reproductive healthcare access. Republicans have pushed back against Democratic criticism, while the issue remains a major political battle in Congress.

In this video, we break down Sen. Duckworth’s remarks, the GOP response, the Trump administration’s position, and why the IVF debate has become a major issue for U.S. military families.

00:00Well, hello everyone. Thank you for being here with us this morning.
00:05You know, we're coming up on the two-year anniversary of when Donald Trump made the promise, and I quote
00:12exactly.
00:13He said, under the Trump administration, your government will pay for, or your insurance company will be mandated to pay
00:20for, all costs associated with IVF treatment, end quote.
00:25Well, all this time later, we've heard crickets from the president on any meaningful progress to keep true to his
00:31word.
00:32So I'm here today to call bullshit.
00:35I'm here today to call out another one of Trump's broken promises, another lie from the president of the United
00:40States, another middle finger to American families.
00:44Look, the president and congressional Republicans have had plenty of chances to help us Dems ensure every American's right to
00:51in vitro fertilization.
00:52But they've not only turned their backs on us, they've actively kept us from making it a reality at every
00:58turn.
00:59We saw this just a few weeks ago when Republicans blocked my amendment that would have ensured our service members,
01:04our heroes, and their families have access to the same level of IVF coverage that we members of Congress do.
01:11That's unacceptable that they blocked it.
01:13It's unconscionable.
01:15And frankly, it's unpatriotic.
01:17We know that our troops are twice as likely to suffer from fertility struggles as civilians.
01:22Often, they struggle because they've sacrificed for this great nation.
01:27Yet, how does this five-time draft dodger of a president thank them?
01:31Apparently, by refusing to help them build the families that they've dreamed of.
01:35The thing is, I don't need to imagine what those service members are feeling right now because I've lived it.
01:40This morning, I got to argue with my daughters about what to pack for sleep-away camp.
01:44It sounds trivial, I know.
01:46But when I spend just a second thinking about it, even that kind of everyday moment with my girls is
01:51not trivial at all.
01:52It's a miracle.
01:54Because after 10 years of struggling with infertility, after being wounded in combat,
01:58I was only able to have my two girls through IVF.
02:02The only reason there are arguments in my family about crop tops and the need to pack a sweater,
02:09because it might be cold at night, honey, is because I came home from war.
02:12I had the freedom to seek the health care I needed to make my dreams of becoming a mom a
02:17reality.
02:18But now, thanks to Donald Trump, that right to reproductive care is at risk for millions across our nation.
02:24And despite his delusional claims that he is, quote, the father of IVF, he is the reason IVF is at
02:31risk in the first place.
02:32Because he's the one who brags about bringing down Roe v. Wade, an action that put millions of lives in
02:39jeopardy,
02:40that forced millions of women to wonder if basic health care will be there when they need it most.
02:45Yet now, he actually says that he cares about IVF?
02:48He's like a bank robber who steals cash out of the vault and flees the scene and then still expects
02:54a reward for calling 911 to report a crime.
02:57Well, we know the truth.
02:58His support for IVF is about as huge as the made-up crowd sizes at his rallies.
03:03He is to blame.
03:04He and every other Republican who cares more about staying good with Trump than about doing good for the Americans
03:09that they're supposed to be serving.
03:12Women, service members, and otherwise in this country have been through enough.
03:16What we don't need is a man who was found liable for sexual abuse, controlling what we can or cannot
03:21do with our own bodies.
03:23What we don't need are politicians who have sworn fealty to a convicted felon treating us like we're the ones
03:29who are criminals.
03:30Listen, I wish Republicans luck explaining Trump's broken promises to their constituents this summer.
03:36They're going to have to justify why Trump promised to lower costs, why he promised no more forever wars,
03:41why he promised free IVF, than how he's somehow already broken every last one of those vows in just a
03:48year and a half since he's taken over the White House and turned it into a Marie Antoinette ballroom.
03:52And I'm sure along the way, some of those Republicans are going to run to the nearest camera to claim
03:57that their actions have simply been misunderstood,
03:59that they love IVF, just like the Democrats, despite all their actions to the contrary.
04:04Well, so to those colleagues, we're giving you yet another chance to prove that you actually do care about American
04:10families.
04:11Today, we are proud to reintroduce our Right to IVF Act, which would enshrine into law every American's right to
04:18access IVF if they choose to do so.
04:21We're not forcing it on them.
04:23We're just saying if you want to start IVF because you want to start a family, you have the right
04:27to access it.
04:28It will lower costs and it will expand coverage for military families and federal employees.
04:32It will help ensure that hopeful parents don't go bankrupt when they're just trying to start a family.
04:37It will make sure that we don't lose service members after 10 years of service and hundreds of thousands of
04:42dollars of training them
04:43because they are denied the right to access IVF and decide that they have to leave the service in order
04:49to start those families.
04:50So if Trump actually believes he's the father of IVF, or if my Republican colleagues actually support IVF like they
04:56say they do when they're on cable news,
04:58then this bill is a chance to prove that their claims aren't just lies.
05:02Because, you know, I went to war to defend this nation's rights and freedoms, including a woman's right to choose
05:08when and where and how to start a family.
05:11I'm not asking Republicans to head into combat to show they care deeply about Americans' rights too.
05:17I'm not asking them to do anything difficult at all, really.
05:19All I'm asking them to do is simply support this bill that could represent millions of their constituents' only hope
05:25of becoming parents.
05:26And all I'm asking is for the actions to finally match their campaign promises.
05:32Otherwise, once again, all they're showing is that their claims of supporting IVF are pure and utter bullshit.
