00:00Some of the best new films streaming right now are flying under the radar.
00:03One of them is Andrew Ahn's The Wedding Banquet, a remake of the Ang Lee film from 1993,
00:06starring our fave Bowen Yang and the Academy Award-nominated Lily Gladstone,
00:10whose acting in this film is so authentic and emotionally true.
00:13We meet Lee and Angela, a lesbian couple, and their friends Chris and Min, a gay couple who live in
00:16their ADU.
00:17Lee and Angela can't afford their IVF and Min's visa is expiring, so they make a deal.
00:21Min, a scion of a Korean business family, agrees to pay for Lee's IVF if Angela agrees to marry him.
00:26Things get complicated when Min's grandmother, who doesn't know he's gay, flies over for the sham wedding.
00:30I don't want to give too much away, but someone gets pregnant, which causes a huge eruption of this foursome.
00:34My favorite part of this film is how it illustrates the beauty of chosen family and unconventional family structures.
00:39It also really makes me want to live in a big house with my friends and in the morning we
00:41garden together.
00:42If you're missing your besties and feeling the weight of our heteronormative society, I highly recommend The Wedding Banquet.
