00:00Sisterhood is extremely important.
00:02Like, my best friends were my sisters.
00:04They were my family that I got to choose.
00:06For black girls, our friendships are like everything.
00:11My friendships are absolutely everything.
00:14It feels like church.
00:16It feels like fellowship.
00:17Black women friendships is cool for the soul.
00:21It's like eating grits without butter.
00:24It's warm.
00:25My friendships with my black female friends feel like freedom.
00:29I don't have to hide who I am.
00:32They don't hide who they are.
00:34And I know that I can be safe in how I speak and what I think.
00:39Friendships and sisterhood between black women is extremely important
00:42because no one understands our experience but us.
00:46We're not afraid to check each other.
00:47I don't have to hide anything about how I think or what I think.
00:51If we disagree, then we disagree and we argue about it
00:54and then we order cocktails after.
00:56And I'll be like, girl, and da-da-da-da-da, and he's sad.
01:00And I'm grateful, right, because they'll sit there and they'll listen.
01:02They'll, uh-huh, uh-huh, what?
01:04And then, uh-huh, what?
01:05And then when I'm done, it's like, sis, you're wildin'.
01:09And they tell me when I'm not.
01:10No, sis, he wildin'.
01:12Let's pull up.
01:12Let's go.
01:13You know what I mean?
01:14When I see my friends, like, I'm just like .
01:18Like, for me and my best friend have been friends, best friends, since I think ninth grade.
01:24My closest friend has been my friend since we were 11 years old.
01:29We're related, but not related, but we're related.
01:32My sister, my birth-by-blood sister, Erica Williams, was created specifically for me.
01:40I truly feel like if I was in the Sahara Desert and needing water, she would stop everything,
01:47get an argument with her husband, jump on a plane, and come and drop my water off for me.
01:52We grew up together.
01:54Like, we experienced the same things.
01:56That's us going out to brunches, getting lit, having fun, sharing makeup tips, doing each other's makeup.
02:04If y'all come from the same place diasporically, no, she can probably relate better to you than anybody else.
02:11Only we can relate. Only the real can relate.
02:14As far as friendships go between black women, we really went from this place of always being pitted against each
02:20other,
02:20whether it was in the workplace, whether it was amongst your homegirls.
02:24In movies and TV, we get this idea that the only relationships that we have with each other
02:30is one where we're kind of being aggressive to each other and we don't like each other.
02:34What's really important is that we start to see more and more shows where we're together because of a shared
02:43love
02:43and a shared understanding, a shared language.
02:45That diversity, the way that it affects the relationships, we all have different experiences
02:53because of our career paths and our interests outside of our relationship.
02:59If you are not in a space where you have black women friends and you are a black woman, sis,
03:07sis, you are missing out.
03:09Me being able to share with the world what sisterhood looks like in our community is a gift.
03:15And it's important, right, because there are so many people on the outside who don't know our experience,
03:23don't share our experience, can't relate.
03:25So me being able to forward that and expose that, that's a gift.
