There's nothing that puts a pep in our step quite like a brightly colored statement bauble. So, when we spotted the lucite neon bib necklace trend, we knew we had to pull out our pliers and get to work.

Using a basic cosmetic bag, a simple, gold chain and some electric gems, we whipped up our own showstopping piece that's much more affordable. We can already feel our other old standby necklaces shaking in fear. Keep watching for the easy how-to!

Supplies: Clear cosmetic bag, Rite Aid; gold chain, Forever21; glue gun, X-ACTO knife, Michaels; gems, Forever21 and MJTrimmings

00:04Hi guys, I'm Chloe with Refinery29, and today we'll be making a neon necklace.
00:09I was inspired by so many pieces on Pinterest right now that are mixing
00:12plastic and bright colors, so this is my take on it. Let's get started.
00:17What you'll need is a piece of plastic, a chain, gems, a pen, exacto knife, pliers, scissors, and a glue
00:28gun.
00:29For the first step, I'm going to go ahead and cut out a piece of plastic, and I'm going to
00:33use this old cosmetic bag,
00:35but any type of plastic will work. So I'm going to go ahead and cut the side out, use my
00:42exacto knife,
00:43and just do a little slit, and then go in with my scissors and cut a piece out.
00:48So now I have my piece of plastic. I'm going to go ahead and draw a hexagon shape on it,
00:53and it doesn't have to be too precise.
00:54You can use a ruler if you want. I'm just going to freehand it. So I'm going to go ahead
01:00and cut it out.
01:01Now I'm going to take my gems and arrange them on the plastic, and then begin gluing them on.
01:14So once the gems are secure and let them sit for a little while, now you're going to go ahead
01:18and take your chain.
01:20I have this one from Forever 21 that I just snipped in half, and I have the clasp at the
01:24bottom here, so I'm going to lay that out.
01:27And then take my exacto knife, and I'm going to be doing two small slits in the plastic right on
01:33the edges on the sides there.
01:35You'll want to go ahead and open up the end of the chain here with your pliers, and then we're
01:42going to be looping it through the plastic.
01:46Go ahead and just pinch it shut.
01:49And then once you've secured that other side, you're all done, and you have a great neon piece that's perfect
01:54for spring.
02:09So I've just removed all of my makeup.
02:12Very excited to be on the internet with no makeup.
02:13Great job.
