00:00The Witcher 2 Assassin of Kings just turned 15. It's one of the few remaining Xbox console
00:05exclusives, and I'm incredibly sorry to inform all PS4 and PS5 only owners out there that the
00:10RPG is still excellent to play now, especially on PC. It starts off right in the heat of battle,
00:16as King Foltest launches an assault on his mistress to retrieve his illegitimate children.
00:20Much as in The Witcher 3, the game can be affected by carrying over your choices from
00:24the previous game, or you can go with the default settings instead. The developers' storytelling
00:28chops as sharp as ever, immediately hooking you from the get-go, as Geralt pleads his
00:33case with Vernon Roche. He did not kill the king, actually, and really ought to be freed.
00:37While the combat mechanics can feel stiff compared to The Witcher 3, and probably ancient by the
00:42time we ever get to play The Witcher 4, The Witcher 2 serves up an incredible narrative
00:46adventure with plenty of gameplay features that still hold their charm, like the relatively
00:50simplistic persuasion system. CD Projekt is good at delivering brilliance and somehow one-upping
00:55itself. Playing The Witcher 2 some fifteen years later reminds us that perfection is futile
00:59without the building blocks that take us there.
