00:02Staff at the Flinders Medical Centre were actually just going through a bag of a patient
00:06and they set off what appears to be some kind of insect repellent. Now they kind of cleaned up the
00:13mess and they thought it was all dealt with but then some hours later they began starting to feel
00:19unwell and the Metropolitan Fire Service were called in and by the time that the fire service
00:25arrived 11 staff had actually become unwell and were treated at the scene by other staff at the
00:32Flinders Medical Centre. Now two of those remain in a stable condition in the emergency department
00:37and at Flinders Medical Centre and we have one person in a serious condition also of course
00:43at the Flinders Medical Centre as well and we spoke to Robin Lawrence from SA Health earlier.
00:50Staff as they do were just going through somebody's belongings to make sure that
00:55there was nothing in there that was a safety risk to the patient when they were left alone
00:58and that in doing that the lid was knocked off the repellent and it released itself.
01:04So James has there been any impact on the hospital's emergency department?
01:09Well because the Metropolitan Fire Service have had to go in and sort of
01:13try and clean up the area and make sure it's safe for staff and patients they've actually had to close
01:1912 emergency hospital beds so that's meant they've actually tried to get other ambulances moved away
01:26from the area so if they're not super important they've tried to get patients to go to other parts
01:31of the health system, the Royal Adelaide, other hospitals around Adelaide so it has been a knock-on effect Lorna.
