00:02I grew up in our city with an experience of police in that there were some for whom there were
00:10people in their family who were serving on the force,
00:12others for whom it was only the experiences they would have with officers themselves.
00:17I don't recall having any experiences in our city that really do stand out to me at a personal level.
00:25But I think one thing that has stood out to me is that for quite some time in our city,
00:31New Yorkers have been made to feel as if they have to choose between safety and justice.
00:35And I think it's critically important that we deliver the both of them and show that, in fact, that isn't
00:41a choice that has to be made any longer.
