Jayden Daniels may be the most important X-factor in the NFC East division race. If he can stay healthy, the Commanders could make a run at the division.
Transcript
00:00Bantai Teo, former Notre Dame Heisman Trophy finalist,
00:05is on Good Morning Football and talked at length about
00:09Jaden Daniels and the commanders as it relates to the NFC East.
00:14Let's play the audio, Jeff.
00:15Let's go.
00:15Nine minutes later.
00:16Jame, ask the question.
00:18I got you.
00:18What's our next question?
00:19Who is the most important player in the NFC East?
00:22Jaden Daniels, Jame.
00:23I got you.
00:24I got you, girl.
00:25Hey, this is why we're teammates, Jame.
00:27We know what each other want.
00:28Now, Jaden Daniels is the most important person in the NFC East.
00:32Why?
00:32Because when you look at the commanders,
00:34I don't know what I'm getting out of the commanders.
00:36You know, you look at the running back room.
00:37You got Bill Krosky-Meritt, young.
00:40You got Rashad White, who was RB2 over there from Tampa for a long time.
00:44You have a very thin quarterback room, and you have a very young defense.
00:49Now, I know Dan Quinn is a head coach.
00:51I know what I'm getting there.
00:53But then you also have an offensive coordinator that has the same amount
00:56of coaching experience in the NFL that Jaden Daniels has playing experience
01:00in the NFL.
01:02But this is what history will tell you.
01:04You don't sleep on the Washington Commanders when Jaden Daniels is at the helm.
01:09We were sleeping on them in 2024.
01:11At least I was.
01:12And now all of a sudden, they're playing in the NFC Championship game
01:15against the Philadelphia Eagles.
01:17If Jaden Daniels is healthy, which I'll report out of minicamp and OTAs,
01:23that he will look like his own self, if not better.
01:26Do not sleep on the Washington Commanders, because if this guy is on his P's
01:31and Q's, he is the most important player in the NFC East because he does move
01:34the needle that much, Jaleel.
01:36Is that Nathan talking?
01:37Yeah.
01:38His accent is, like, weird.
01:40He's from Hawaii?
01:42Don't sound like a Hawaiian person to me.
01:44I play with Kurt Gravel.
01:46But I'm just saying, everything's weird.
01:48But he's right.
01:49Like, one thing, and I get past all the other stuff, he's right.
01:54I think he is.
01:55Because if Jaden is on, a lot of the questions that we have go away.
02:00Because the thing about him, he's going to put the ball into a spot
02:04where the person won't be able to miss it.
02:06He'll make guys step up in their game.
02:09Because he is a quarterback coming out of college that does exactly what pro
02:13quarterbacks do.
02:14He throws to spots.
02:15He leads guys.
02:16He don't throw to a person like most college guys do.
02:20He's already shown that.
02:21And I think if he's upright, the NFC East is in trouble.
02:25The league is in trouble.
02:27Point blank.
02:28Everybody prepares for him.
02:30So they prepare for him, which means they leave somebody else open.
02:34And guess who finds him?
02:35Jaden.
02:36I also think the defense will be better.
02:40Yeah.
02:40Now, they were awful.
02:42Did they get to middle of the pack?
02:43Are they just around 20?
02:46Could they sneak into, like, a top 10?
02:48I don't know.
02:48But I think they're going to be way better, which helps Jaden, too.
02:51Totally.
02:51I want to let folks on the phones weigh in.
02:53Our guy Devon is in Rockville.
02:54What up, D?
02:55What's up, Devon?
02:56What's up, brothers?
02:57What's up, man?
02:58Absolutely, he's the most important in the NFC East, man.
03:05Like you said, is he the best?
03:06I might even say he is, but, I mean, but important, absolutely.
03:12It just showed us his rookie year, how important he is.
03:16As long as he's healthy and upright, I don't think anybody can argue that.
03:21Making the playoff, I think we're all going to be competitive in the NFC East this year,
03:26even including the Giants.
03:27So I wouldn't put that expectation on us.
03:30But as we said, Jaden's rookie year, long as we're competitive and give ourselves a shot
03:34to win each and every game, I like our chance to take it off the edge, fella.
03:38I appreciate you, man.
03:40I think a ton of it just depends on health.
03:44Yeah, totally.
03:45Like, there are folks that watched Jaden last year and thought he didn't look as sharp,
03:51and I think that Green Bay game wasn't very sharp, and then he got hurt.
03:54I just think the whole year was so disjointed that I have very little takeaways from Jaden's
04:022025 season, except don't chase dudes down after you throw an interception.
04:07That's like my one takeaway from 2025.
04:09Yeah, I understand that.
04:10I'm not going to call a regression based on four games.
04:13Yeah, that's easier said than done when you're actually on that damn football field.
04:20Yeah, but I'm saying from the body of work, I don't have a lot of takeaways is my point.
04:24Yeah, yeah.
04:25And I think if you want to call him the most important player, because dude, if he's right,
04:30like he was in 24, they proved they're a significant competitor in this league.
04:38Like, just like when you asked me the question about what's most important for Jaden to be
04:41good, and I say the defense.
04:43Yeah.
04:43Think about this.
04:45Because when Jaden Daniels is right, other defenses attack him differently.
04:53Yeah.
04:54And then their offense plays differently because they try to keep him off the field.
04:59So then when you're trying to keep him off the field, you do certain things.
05:02So you're playing to the hands of our defense.
05:04You get what I'm saying?
05:05I think him being right affects every damn body that's on our schedule.
05:12Let's hit these phones.
05:13Our guy, Rusty, is in Delaware.
05:15What's up, Rusty?
05:17Hey, fellas.
05:18How you doing today?
05:18Doing good, brother.
05:21So, yeah, I told Stallion, I'm going to say not only the most important player on the team,
05:27most important player in the division, most important player in the conference, and maybe
05:32even the whole entire league.
05:34And the reason why I say that is, you know, I'm a kid of the 90s.
05:39And when I was in high school, pro wrestling couldn't have been more popular.
05:44And when Stone Cold Steve Austin was hurt, all we used to talk about is when Stone Cold
05:49coming back.
05:50When Stone Cold coming back.
05:52We wanted that entertainment.
05:54We wanted to see that number one guy.
05:56Same thing here with Jaden.
05:58We need him back on the field because he's that important to the whole league.
06:02All right, man.
06:03He is, dude.
06:03I mean, there's a reason he's become this megastar.
06:07Like, we were in Madrid.
06:09Thanks for the call, Russ.
06:10Always good to hear from you, bud.
06:11We were in Madrid, and there were posters of Jaden Daniels everywhere.
06:14He didn't even make the trip because of the injuries.
06:16But, like, people are ready for him to be a megastar.
06:20His play on the field, his level of cool and poise.
06:24He's important in Washington.
06:25He's important on Park Avenue, too.
06:27Totally.
06:28Todd is in Maryland.
06:29What's up, Todd?
06:31Hey, guys.
06:34Well, Jaden is important because, like D-Man said, when he's healthy, you know,
06:40things go right for the commander.
06:43And, you know, he makes guys look good.
06:46You know, just think.
06:48You go to the NFC Championship and get charity, right?
06:52And just think that they've got some more weapons for Jaden to play with
06:56because, you know, that makes it more important.
06:59You look for more weapons.
07:00Other people come better.
07:01And you can't focus on Terry because, hey, Jaden, get you this guy, this guy,
07:04that guy.
07:05That's what makes the team great.
07:08But, well, I wanted to say one more thing before I go.
07:10And, B-Mitch, I'm glad you finally mentioned Kurt Goveld.
07:14I played against him in high school.
07:16No joke about the B.
07:17Oh, wow.
07:17He was the defensive player of the year for football and the offensive player of the
07:23year for football and the state player of the year as he played offense and defense.
07:28Damn.
07:31And he played basketball.
07:33And I'm not sure, too.
07:34He might have handed out water at halftime.
07:37I don't know.
07:38All right, bro.
07:40Appreciate the call, dude.
07:41I know he could smoke a damn pig, boy.
07:43Goveld was a badass.
07:44Yes, he was.
07:46Here's what I'm thinking.
07:47If you're on hold, stay there.
07:48We'll continue this.
07:49We also have our training camp battle position group to discuss as the show continues.
07:55But, Jaden, a healthy Jaden Daniels, like, who would be the argument over him as most
08:02important player in the division?
08:04Dak?
08:05Jalen Hurts?
08:06Saquon?
08:07We've seen Dak do all this stuff.
08:09I know.
08:11Ain't Saquon.
08:12As good as he was in the first year, I think it's more about their defense.
08:16Like, I mean, part of me wonders if you couldn't argue, like, a Jalen Carter or something.
08:20But as far as important player in the division, now, the Cowboys kind of rise and fall as Dak
08:26is healthy or not, much like Jaden.
08:29Part of me thinks, dude, who is the Eagles' backup, White Bryant?
08:35Like, Tanner McKee?
08:37The Temple kid or whatever?
08:38They love that kid, right?
08:40I don't even think, I think saying Jaden is the most important player in the division isn't even a hot
08:46take.
