00:00I'm recreating celebrity's breakfast
00:01to see whose morning routine is worth copying
00:03and who should stay in Hollywood.
00:05Let's start super indulgent with The Rocks French Toast
00:09with peanut butter, coconut, maple syrup.
00:12This is the meal he eats every weekend as his cheat meal.
00:16And he is 100% cheating on his health conscious diet
00:20because this is anything but that,
00:22but man does it look delicious.
00:24So it starts with brioche bread.
00:27You wanna get it whole, unsliced
00:29because you're gonna slice it in super thick slices,
00:32about two inches.
00:34And I don't have day old bread, so it's pretty soft.
00:37So we wanna dry it out a little bit
00:38so that it will absorb all of that custard.
00:41So I'm just gonna lay it out on a baking sheet
00:45and then just pop it into a low oven,
00:48250 degrees for about 10 minutes
00:49just to kind of help dry it out.
00:51The ingredients in the custard are pretty classic.
00:53It's the topping where it gets real good.
00:57So it starts with a couple eggs.
00:58I mean, at least I think it's good.
01:00I feel like The Rock kind of knows what he's talking about.
01:03It's just a little bit of sugar here.
01:04And I'm gonna follow these recipes exact,
01:09unless they really make me crazy.
01:11Milk.
01:12Then in goes some cinnamon and a little vanilla.
01:15You just wanna whisk this really well
01:17and let it stand for several minutes.
01:19Here's where it gets real good.
01:21Peanut butter, coconut, maple syrup.
01:23So we start by warming some maple syrup.
01:26I'm gonna double this part
01:28because I feel like we're gonna need extra.
01:30I'm gonna heat that in the microwave just to get it warm.
01:34I also got the tequila.
01:35This is The Rock's tequila.
01:37Not sponsored, but I do happen to.
01:42I hadn't even had a sip.
01:44But I do happen to enjoy this one.
01:46Red's ready, let it cool.
01:48Peanut butter goes into the warm maple syrup.
01:51And then in goes coconut cream.
01:53Because that maple syrup is warm,
01:55everything else just kinda melts in there.
01:57Then add tequila and salt to taste.
02:01It's like a peanut butter, coconut,
02:04maple syrup, margarita.
02:06And add a little pinch, because it is pretty sweet.
02:07Never had tequila in my French toast.
02:10I have had tequila for breakfast, though.
02:12Never had a breakfast margarita?
02:14Okay, let's see.
02:19That is frickin' delicious.
02:22Glad I made double.
02:23All right, so we're just going to soak the bread.
02:26And this is some thick bread,
02:27so it's gonna take a minute.
02:28You probably wanna leave it in the custard
02:29for about three or four minutes.
02:31You can call it breakfast, but it really is a dessert.
02:34All right, I'm gonna let it sit.
02:35Get my skillet, my butter going.
02:38This could be the best French toast I've ever had.
02:40We're starting off strong.
02:42When it comes to French toast, any French toast,
02:44not just this one, but especially this one,
02:45you wanna cook it over more of a medium-to-medium-low heat setting,
02:50because there's a lot of custard in that bread.
02:52You don't just wanna cook the outside, where the inside is raw.
02:55He cooks it in a combination of oil and butter.
02:59And the rock definitely cheats on the weekends,
03:01because he's healthy all the other time.
03:03Apparently, he has other cheat meals.
03:05And if they're all as good as this one, I feel like it's gonna be.
03:09I might need to do a whole series of rock cheat meals.
03:12So everything's melted.
03:14I'm going in with my super-soaked French toast.
03:17Now, while this does cook low and slow,
03:19I feel like I should be doing the same thing he would be doing.
03:23It's what he did in his video.
03:24So why not?
03:25Just a little morning sipper.
03:28And then he did a little squeeze of orange in it.
03:30A little orange juice.
03:35Whoo!
03:36Yeah!
03:37Look how good this looks.
03:40I feel like, while it is toasty on the outside,
03:43there's still, I feel like, a lot of cooking that needs to be done on the inside.
03:46I didn't do all this work to eat raw egg in the middle.
03:50Now, we do want to also lift it up and kind of cook the sides.
03:54I haven't been this excited over French toast in a while.
03:57That might be a little strong for breakfast.
03:59If you find yourself in a position where you feel like it needs a little more time
04:04or the outside is cooked before the inside,
04:06just take your whole pan and stick it in the oven, like, 350 degrees for just a few minutes.
04:10Rock, I'm available for cooking lessons, just saying.
04:14I do feel like one is a serving, even though two is going to look really impressive.
04:18Top, some whipped cream, and this, I'm real excited.
04:23And toasted coconut.
04:25I've never had French toast like this before.
04:28All right, this corner right here is calling my name.
04:33He nailed that.
04:35He nailed that.
04:36What I like is that while it is indulgent, it really doesn't taste super heavy.
04:43It's all really balanced.
04:45The peanut butter sauce is not overly sweet.
04:48Just that light bit of cream kind of mellows it all out.
04:51I do think the portion size is a little big.
04:54One piece is going to do it.
04:56But overall, a solid, solid 9.5.
05:01And this is really going to be hard to beat.
05:03While the French toast is delicious, my go-to breakfast order, nine times out of ten, is a breakfast sandwich.
05:10So we're going to do two breakfast sandwiches.
05:12First, Gordon Ramsay's perfect breakfast sandwich.
05:16And what this is at first glance is like an entire English breakfast put between two slices of bread.
05:21So he starts with a couple links of breakfast sausage, cuts them in half, and then we cook this in
05:27a skillet along with some bacon.
05:30The fats from each will render out and they will cook in their own fat.
05:34And then we're going to roast the tomatoes in that same fat.
05:38Everything apparently cooks in a little oil and butter.
05:40Sausage down.
05:42And the bacon.
05:43Now, when I did see him make this, he did not cook his bacon as crispy as I would like
05:47my bacon.
05:48So we're going to cook this most of the way until it's nice and browned.
05:51We're going to finish in the oven.
05:53It also adds on a little pepper because there's already enough salt in all of this.
05:57Okay, we've got everything most of the way done.
06:01I feel like I'm being a little too laid back for Gordon Ramsay.
06:03I feel like I need to pump it up a little bit.
06:05It's like we're stressed.
06:08You might as well wake up.
06:10Now in goes some tomato.
06:12That's going to roast in here with the meats.
06:15And it all goes into the oven for about four minutes.
06:18And while that happens, we fry our eggs.
06:21Stay right there.
06:22Okay, that's like Australian.
06:27Eggs, straightforward.
06:28He cooks them in hot oil and butter.
06:31These are fried eggs, crispy around the edges.
06:34Sunny side up, but they do kind of cook because the butter and oil kind of like cook the tops
06:39of the egg.
06:40So it kind of swirls in the oil and butter.
06:43I like to crack the white a little bit just to kind of help it cook faster in there.
06:47I don't know if I could cook in front of Gordon Ramsay.
06:49I would be way too stressed out.
06:51I feel like I might also go a little sassy with him.
06:53That's about it.
06:54It's starting to get browned down the edges.
06:57The white is set.
06:59That's just some of the oil and butter floating on top.
07:02I'm about to make the perfect breakfast sandwich.
07:05Okay.
07:07He kind of pops the tomatoes so the juices come out.
07:10To finish the eggs, I forgot a little dash of Worcestershire and sriracha.
07:16Okay, Gordon.
07:17It's like you know what you're doing.
07:18He takes two pieces of bread untoasted.
07:21Sausage.
07:22And I feel like one sandwich is enough for two people.
07:24He didn't specify.
07:26I for sure am not going to miss the cheese.
07:28I can tell you that.
07:29And he says you don't need anything on the bread because you can just use the buttery goodness from the
07:32eggs.
07:34Okay, this is the ultimate Gordon.
07:36I kind of wish he would grade me.
07:38See how I did so far.
07:40I feel like I've done him justice.
07:42Juicy.
07:43Runny.
07:44Meaty.
07:45And where'd it go?
07:49Mmm.
07:50There's a lot going on.
07:51I gotta take it in.
07:51The savory sausage.
07:53The bacon.
07:55Crunchy.
07:56Probably crunchier than Gordon's but it had to be that way.
08:00The tomato is nice because it just kind of cuts some of the richness a little bit and offers the
08:04sauce.
08:04It's almost making the bread a little bit soggy.
08:09So I might like it a little bit toasted but flavor is like amazing.
08:15This is a rich sandwich.
08:17There's really nothing wrong with it.
08:18I mean other than maybe the bread.
08:22It's not going to hold up very long.
08:24Solid nine.
08:25But does Gordon Ramsay beat Bobby Flay?
08:30I'll let you know.
08:32Bobby Flay's breakfast is actually his late night dinner.
08:36And it is my favorite sandwich.
08:38A bacon, egg, and cheese.
08:40So it starts off pretty straightforward.
08:42So we cook the bacon until crispy.
08:44He says crispy.
08:46So, so far we are on the same page.
08:49Is something so simple able to beat the great Gordon Ramsay?
08:55Well, good thing I'm the judge.
08:57Bacon crispy.
08:59Gonna take it out.
09:00He does take out all but about a tablespoon of the bacon fat.
09:03That is about three tablespoons.
09:05Then we're going to crack two eggs into the bacon fat.
09:08He also gets his crispy around the edges.
09:10You know, I know the proper French way is no browning around the edges.
09:15These two chefs like the crackly edge.
09:18As do I.
09:19Season with salt is over.
09:21Gonna baste it with some of the fat.
09:24Two pieces of American cheese right over the top.
09:27And then a little bit of water and we're just gonna steam it for just about 15 seconds to melt
09:32the cheese.
09:33Cover.
09:34Let the cheese melt.
09:36And this one's easy.
09:37Eggs are done and I don't want them to overcook.
09:40But I forgot to toast my buns.
09:42Here's the twist.
09:44Toasted brioche buns are key.
09:46Harissa.
09:47This is a spicy chili paste.
09:49It's gonna add great flavor.
09:50It's got a little tang to it.
09:52But this sandwich just simply reminds him of those New York delis that you, you know, open all night long.
09:59He does call this hangover food.
10:01I can see why.
10:03But in a good way.
10:09That's my kind of sandwich.
10:10The crispy bacon.
10:12The little kick from the harissa.
10:14And the tang from that kind of cuts through some of that richness from the cheese.
10:18That runny yolk.
10:19The crunchy bacon.
10:20But then that soft kind of like buttery bun.
10:23While this one might not look as impressive as Gordon's.
10:26The flavor.
10:27Spot on.
10:28The way the bread holds this one all together might give it the slight edge.
10:33Plus, it's already added a little bit of advantage because it's my sandwich of choice.
10:389.2.
10:40Bobby Flay wins.
10:42Y'all, we have been bad this whole time.
10:44It's time to get healthy and eat like royalty.
10:46So we're having Princess Diana's breakfast that she ate every single day.
10:51These are overnight oats.
10:53But before you turn it off, they sound freaking delicious.
10:57I don't always get into overnight oats.
10:59But I think you're going to like these because they sound really good.
11:03And I feel like I'm going to like them.
11:04And if I do, you do.
11:05And we are not ranking these breakfasts.
11:09I'm just giving each one a grade.
11:11So you can't put overnight oats in the same category as a bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich.
11:15But we need to incorporate some healthy breakfast every now and then.
11:17So this is that.
11:18So you have to soak your oats first.
11:22Typically, people do it in water or milk or alternative milks or a combination.
11:29Princess Diana's chef soaks them in orange juice.
11:32So I have freshly squeezed orange juice.
11:34So it's usually about equal amounts, oats, and liquid.
11:39That's all you do.
11:40At this point, you can add in whatever flavorings you want.
11:42So we're going to go just like this.
11:44Cover.
11:45Let it soak overnight.
11:47Lucky for you, I did one already.
11:52So these oats have absorbed the liquid.
11:55Now we turn it into breakfast.
11:57So Princess Diana actually discovered this from a Swiss nutritionist.
12:02It's supposed to be like the ultimate healthy breakfast.
12:05And then she asked her chef to make it for her every day.
12:09She stole the recipe, came back and said, Darren, I want these for breakfast every day.
12:14So once you have your oatmeal base, in goes some Greek yogurt, a little lemon, some honey.
12:21And then what I love is this addition of Honeycrisp apple.
12:25So it's going to add texture, a little crunch in there, a little sweetness, and also the fiber that we
12:32all need.
12:32And then a few blueberries.
12:34More go on top.
12:35I'm going to put some in.
12:37Bowls are all the rage, you know, different kind of smoothie bowls and things.
12:41Typically, I've always eaten my oatmeal hot.
12:44But if you kind of put that bowl mindset in and eat it cold, I think it could work.
12:49I feel like if this is really what she ate, she was ahead of the times.
12:52Because I feel like overnight oats were quite trendy in the recent years.
12:57And for the finishing touch, walnuts.
13:00You know, walnuts are shaped like a brain because they're good for your brain.
13:05It's the way nature works.
13:06Did you know that?
13:07And more blueberries.
13:08Tempted to put a little other squeeze of honey on there just to make it pretty.
13:12Pinkies up.
13:15I will eat it with my gold spoon, though.
13:18I'm sorry, but this is also a perfect bite breakfast.
13:25Mmm.
13:26That was really good.
13:27I didn't think I was going to like the orange juice soaked oats.
13:30But it is really juicy, sweet, and refreshing.
13:35And I'm really enjoying it after those super rich breakfasts I've just had.
13:40Diana knew a good thing when she saw it.
13:42In the category of healthy breakfast, this is a solid 9.2.
13:54My final recipe comes from another form of royalty, Miss Oprah Winfrey.
14:00She's probably richer than some royalty.
14:01So I put it in that category.
14:03And we're making her famous scrambled eggs.
14:05It's exactly what I would expect from a celebrity.
14:08Four ingredients.
14:10Eggs, jalapeno, a little green onion, and truffle cheese.
14:14Which actually is not hard to find.
14:17And maybe this can be the twist to your scrambled eggs if you're tired of the same old recipe.
14:20Now, she doesn't really give any further instruction on how she seasons the eggs.
14:25If she mixes them with milk or water.
14:28I typically don't mix it with anything.
14:31Okay.
14:31And then I am going to grate some of this cheese.
14:36Smells good.
14:37Does not smell too musty.
14:39You know, sometimes that truffle stuff can be a little musty.
14:42This is a truffle Gouda.
14:44It's just cheese with little specks of truffle formed inside.
14:49She didn't say what she cooked them in, but we're going to go butter.
14:51Eggs cook quickly by nature.
14:54But a proper scrambled egg is cooked on the lower and slower side.
14:59Proper scrambled egg takes longer to cook than you think.
15:02Okay.
15:02Once it's melted, in goes the egg.
15:05And then to keep them creamy, you want to keep stirring them throughout.
15:08I'm going to give them a little pinch of salt.
15:10The outer part is going to cook faster than the inside.
15:14So, for the whole process, just kind of scoot the outside in.
15:18There is a video of her making this.
15:20And I'm just always fascinated to watch celebrities in their environment
15:25cooking or doing something other than what they normally do.
15:28Okay.
15:28They're almost done.
15:29So, I'm going to basically go off and on the heat until I get everything in.
15:34Going in with that truffle cheese.
15:37Sometimes when the heat hits it, that's when the aroma will come out.
15:41It's pretty mild.
15:42Might be a good way to warm up to truffle if you don't love it.
15:46I think we nailed it, but how does it taste?
15:50That cheese definitely made these super creamy.
15:54No, they are not uncooked.
15:56This is just what the cheese just did.
15:58Okay, Oprah, how'd I do?
16:00How did I do?
16:02Y'all tag Oprah so she'll tell me how I did in this.
16:05I think I'll do a little crack of pepper.
16:07Ooh, cheesy.
16:15It's a sophisticated egg right there.
16:17It's very delicate.
16:18I love the flavor of the jalapeno coming in there.
16:20The truffle is super faint.
16:22I'm sure there is more truffle potent cheeses out there,
16:26or you could just grate some fresh truffle on here.
16:28But this combo right here is perfect for me.
16:31I feel like this is the kind of scrambled egg I would make on the weekend when I can actually
16:35sit and savor.
16:36It's very delightful.
16:38And I think it deserves a solid nine.
16:42I have been very generous in my grading today, but these celebrities did not disappoint.
16:49I guess my favorite of the day, just because it was so surprising and something I've never had before, would
16:54go to The Rock.
16:56Who knew?
16:58Who knew?
16:58The one that's furthest from being a chef is the winner.
17:02But they all got A's.
17:04I might not be rich and famous, but I feel like I am qualified to judge these and let you
17:08know that they are indeed all worth making.
17:11It was a good day.
17:12All right.
17:12So we can there, and say, let's take her into the deposit.
17:12But of course there's an amazing drink.
17:12There's FGS.
