00:01Thousands of patients under the care of Dr Luming Schmidt have now been recalled after she was found guilty of
00:09professional misconduct here at the New South Wales Civil and Administrative Tribunal yesterday.
00:16Now since 2009 she's worked at Breast Green New South Wales, Griffith Base Hospital, Toomit District Hospital and Albury-Wodonga
00:24Health on the New South Wales-Victoria border.
00:28One of the 13 complaints heard here was that in 2022 she failed to identify a large cancer while performing
00:36a colonoscopy on a patient.
00:39Three months later luckily that cancer was identified by a separate doctor in a repeat colonoscopy.
00:46Another complaint heard was that in 2019 she actually brought out the wrong end of a patient's bowel and completed
00:55a mechanical obstruction on them.
00:58Then after that surgery she didn't tell the patient and four weeks later that patient died.
01:05The tribunal also heard that between 2015 and 2021 she didn't adequately capture images or take enough time when capturing
01:16images during colonoscopies on patients at Wodonga Hospital.
01:21It also heard she didn't take adequate patient notes or records.
01:27Now she's been ordered to pay the legal fees of the Health Care Complaints Commission and will be under supervision
01:35and will need extra training before she returns to work in six months' time.
