03:23but because the entire project was built on a gimmick
03:26almost every other track he released feels like a lesser incredibly lazy rewrite of Convoy
03:33songs like wolf creek pass and round the world with rubber duck double down on the spoken word trucking monologues
03:39but without the infectious rhythm and driving baseline of the original hits

03:50the jokes wear thin within seconds
03:52the musical backdrops are unimaginative generic country western music

04:04Canadian reggae fusion artist Snow shocked the world in 1993 with his lightning-fast double-time single Informer
04:11which spent seven consecutive weeks at number one on the Billboard Hot 100
04:16it felt unique and featured a hook that stayed glued in your brain
04:25however if you actually try to listen to the rest of his debut album 12 inches of snow or his
04:32subsequent projects
04:33you'll find an artist completely lost without a strong hook as an anchor
04:37tracks like Girl I've Been Hurt feature cringe-worthy melodramatic R&B crooning over cheap synthesizer beats
04:51Meanwhile, his attempts to pivot to more traditional pop reggae or hip-hop ballads over the years felt entirely hollow
04:58lacking any of the raw energy, charisma, or production value that is one big miracle track possessed
05:05Rednecks
05:11The Eurodance group Rednecks decided to combine American country folk fiddle with high-energy Swedish techno back in 1994
05:19giving birth to the inescapable monster that is Cotton Eye Joe
05:23Love it or hate it, the track is an undeniable party anthem with boundless energy
05:35But if you ever had the misfortune of letting their album Sex and Violins keep playing
05:40you know that Rednecks is a brutal assault on the ears
05:43Their non-hit tracks attempt to milk the country techno gimmick dry
05:47but even worse are their attempts at serious music
05:51The ballad Wish You Were Here is a generic uninspired synth slop
05:55that strips away the only thing the band actually had going for them
05:59Their unhinged, ridiculous energy
06:08Crazy Town
06:14Crazy Town hit the absolute jackpot in the year 2000
06:17by sampling a beautiful rhythmic guitar riff from the Red Hot Chili Peppers
06:21and turning it into the smooth alternative hip-hop anthem Butterfly
06:25It was a laid-back appealing radio hit that contrasted sharply with the aggressive nu metal scene of the era
06:35The problem? Crazy Town wanted to be a hard-edged aggressive nu metal band
06:40and they were profoundly terrible at it
06:43The rest of their debut album The Gift of Game is a toxic wasteland of obnoxious rap-rock cliches
06:48and gratingly juvenile lyrics
06:51Tracks like Toxic and Dark Side are painfully abrasive
06:55lacking any of the melody, soul, or crossover appeal
06:58that made Butterfly a multi-platinum success
07:01Tracks like Eiffel 65
07:16Italian electronic trio Eiffel 65 defined the sound of late 1999 with Blue Dabba D
07:23a track driven by an infectious synth lead and some of the earliest uses of autotune pitch correction
07:29Elsewhere, however, tracks like Too Much of Heaven attempt to tackle serious themes of greed
07:34but sound hilariously cheap and hollow
07:37While songs like My Console are literally just a list of PlayStation 1 video game titles
07:43read over a lazy, repetitive, poor-on-the-floor beat
07:54Without the uniquely charming melody of Blue, their music completely falls apart
07:59exposing incredibly lazy production and embarrassing lyrical concepts
08:04Aqua
08:11Danish-Norwegian Europop group Aqua took over the global airwaves in 1997 with Barbie Girl
08:18It was a hyper-stylized piece of satirical pop that weaponized a high-pitched vocal dynamic
08:24against a driving dance beat
08:32But when you look at the rest of their discography
08:35Aqua's camp wears thin instantly, leaving behind a jarringly annoying wall of noise
08:41Songs like Lollipop Candyman and Bumblebees use the exact same formula
08:46Renee Diff barking aggressive, gruff lines while Lena Nystrom squeaks out high-pitched responses
08:52but without any of the pop craftsmanship or wits of their signature hit
09:01When they try to slow things down for serious tracks like Turn Back Time
09:06they lose their unique identity entirely
09:08transforming into a thoroughly mediocre, third-rate, generic pop group
09:14Vanilla Ice
09:21Here's something nobody can ever take away from Vanilla Ice
09:24The fact that Ice Ice Baby became the first hip-hop single to top the Billboard charts back in 1990
09:31Say what you will about Robert Van Winkle, but that single was a pop-rap phenomenon
09:42Unfortunately, the rest of his major-label debut, To The Extreme, is a nightmare of weak lyricism and corny delivery
09:49But things got even worse later in his career
09:59In a desperate bid for relevance, he released Hard To Swallow in 1998
10:04A confusing pivot into nu metal and aggressive rap rock
10:08It was a disaster that proved Vanilla Ice possessed no genuine artistic direction or staying power
10:14without a massive, pre-existing classic rock sample to do all the heavy lifting
