00:00My name is Megan Peters and it is my pleasure to introduce our speakers this
00:05evening. I am a cognitive and a computational neuroscientist here at
00:09University College London. I also have a strong philosophical streak so this is
00:15a really exciting time for me. Now I'll introduce our two speakers for the
00:18evening. Acharya Prashant is a philosopher and the author of acclaimed
00:22bestsellers including Truth Without Apology and Karma. With an online
00:27following of more than 100 million people he is one of the most followed
00:32philosophical voices in the world and in 2026 he was named to the Watkins list of
00:38the most influential living thinkers. His work centers on what he calls the mass
00:43based education of the self. This is delivered to millions of students
00:47worldwide through a teaching app and a structured curriculum. His UK tour this
00:52summer has taken him to Oxford, Cambridge and the UK Parliament where he has
00:58spoken on clarity, freedom and climate change in dialogue with thinkers
01:02including Professor Jonathan Birch, Professors Lars Chitka and Queen Mary, the
01:07psychologist Dr. Melanie Joy, the biologist Dr. Rupert Sheldrake and the non-dual
01:12philosopher Rupert Spiro. That journey has now brought him here to UCL and tonight
01:18Acharya Prashant is here to talk with Professor Scott Fleming. Dr. Fleming is
01:23Professor of Cognitive Neuroscience at UCL's Institute of Cognitive
01:26Neuroscience and a group leader at the Max Planck UCL Center for Computational
01:31Psychiatry. He studied psychology and physiology at Oxford, completed his PhD here
01:37at UCL and did his postdoctoral work at NYU in New York. His research combines
01:43psychophysics, brain imaging and computational models to understand the
01:47mechanisms behind subjective experience and metacognition. This is work
01:52recognized by the British Academy Wiley Prize, a Philip Leverhulme Prize, the BPS
01:57Spearman Medal and most recently the 2025 Royal Society Francis Crick Medal and Lecture.
