00:00This is the brand new FIFA World Cup football, the Adidas Trionda.
00:04And while it might look like a standard piece of leather with a fancy paint job, the tech
00:07inside proves otherwise.
00:08The biggest feature this year is hidden inside the official Matchday versions, which carry
00:12a hyper-advanced 500Hz motion sensor.
00:14In past World Cups, the chip was suspended in the dead centre of the ball, but this year
00:18Adidas has inserted it in a single panel.
00:20Strategic counterbalances have been placed in the other three panels to ensure the ball's
00:24flight, even as it sends data to the video assistant referee at 500 times a second, capturing
00:29the exact millisecond of either a handball or an offside.
00:32Looking closely at the ball, it uses four panels in its construction, the fewest panels ever
00:36used in a World Cup football.
00:37The name Trionda means three waves, paying tribute to this tournament's three host nations,
00:42Canada, Mexico and the US, which are represented on the ball by the Maple Leaf, Eagle and Star
00:47motifs.
00:47The ball is covered in seams, lines and textures that ensure it always flies true, whether you
00:52are playing in a bone-dry stadium or a humid rainstorm.
00:55It shows how far World Cup balls have come since the early days of the tournament, when
00:59they were heavy, uncoated leather weapons that literally caused player concussions.
01:03The retail ball we have here will set you back $240, but sadly it doesn't come with
01:08a backyard video ref setup.
01:09So what do you think?
01:10Is the Adidas Trionda an instant classic, or do you have a different all-time favourite
