00:43In 2017, Billy McFarlane and Zhao Ruhl created the Fyre Festival, which was sold as a once-in-a-lifetime
00:49opportunity and hyped by models like Kendall Jenner.
00:52When attendees arrived, the reality was a disaster.
00:55What was already this kind of very loosely put-together festival, which was over-advertised, has now devolved into something

01:05This Netflix documentary exposes the event from inside, from the booking mess and poor planning, to McFarlane's admission he sold

01:12There was no one, like, who planned out luggage tags.
01:15They brought out the luggage in two big containers, like truck containers, like 18-wheeler containers.

01:24Along the way, it'll make you feel sorry for the working-class staff and locals who were exploited.
01:28Through behind-the-scenes footage and candid interviews, it's clear that bad planning wasn't the only cause of the fire

02:11Letting the footage speak for itself, the film avoids interviews and voice-overs, refusing to soften what unfolds.

03:00For years, Sam Cooke was remembered as the king of soul music, whose life ended in a mysterious motel shooting
03:05in 1964, officially ruled self-defense.
03:09It's not a surprise that to this day, there are a lot of people who still believe that there was
03:13some sort of cover-up, some sort of conspiracy around the death of Sam Cooke.
03:17After watching this Netflix doc, you'll have a rethink about it, as it reveals a Cooke many didn't know.
03:22More than an entertainer, he was deeply involved in the civil rights movement, and connected to powerful figures like Muhammad
03:28Ali and Malcolm X.
03:42The film questions inconsistencies in the account of his shooting by Bertha Franklin, while casting suspicion on the music industry.
03:48These revelations change everything. Suddenly, his death feels less accidental, and more like the silencing of a man growing far
03:55too powerful.

04:16It's not every day fans get to see the inner workings of their favorite band.

04:24For years, Metallica seemed like mythical rock stars bound by brotherhood and pure creativity. Then, Metallica, Some Kind of Monster
04:32shattered that image.
04:33When Joe Berlinger and Bruce Sanofsky began shooting in 2001, the band was unraveling, and what they captured was pretty
04:39disturbing.
04:40You're telling me what to play right now. You're telling me you should play with what Kirk's doing, and I'm
04:44telling you it's stock.
04:46Dude, fine.
04:48You know what, guys? Why don't we just go in there and just hammer it out, all right? Instead of
04:52hammering on each other.
04:53Instead of a tight-knit band, it exposed deep fractures within the group. The resentment, ego clashes, James Hetfield's struggle

05:03After a certain amount of months, you know, Lars and I started to think, well, is he ever going to
05:08come back to the band? And that was a really big question on our plates.
05:12In trying to humanize the band, the film reveals something harsher. A band of clashing personalities that had no business
05:18working together.
05:19Honestly, it'll make you either like them less, or respect them even more.
05:23Number 6. Kurt Cobain, Montage of Heck
05:26Kurt Cobain's struggles and tragic death are well-known to most fans, but Brett Morgan's 2015 documentary reveals more than
05:33anyone imagined.
05:34He didn't feel worthy because he was rejected, basically. And I don't know how anybody deals with having your whole
05:44family reject you.
05:46With the cooperation of Cobain's family, Morgan had unprecedented access, from personal journals and home videos, to artwork and recordings.
05:54With these, he told a deeper tale of Cobain's life from childhood to fame.
05:59We see him living homeless with friends, forming nirvana, and rising to superstardom.
06:09The film doesn't shy away from his troubled marriage with Courtney Love, or his descent into substance use disorder.
06:15Not everyone loved it, though. It was criticized by Cobain's friends for leaning heavily into his darkest years.
06:20Still, it's a film that reshapes all you thought you knew about Cobain, even as a hardcore fan.
06:25A lot of his messages are as plain as day. I'm not even going to say what they are, but
06:30you can see it. And it's all there. And, you know, in 20-20 hindsight, you're like, oh my god,
06:35why didn't I see that? Or I should have said something.
06:38Number 5. Framing Britney Spears
06:41This candid documentary did more than just recap headlines. It exposed the overlooked aspects of Britney Spears' life.
06:46I am where I am today is because I do have control, you know? And you just control what you
06:53do. You know, you have to. Otherwise, you get sucked in by people that are not necessary.
06:58With an unflinching first-hand feel, it dives into Spears' struggles under restrictive conservatorship, her limited autonomy, and the pressures
07:04of fame from a young age.
07:06The film traces her meteoric rise, while revisiting the sexist interviews and invasive coverage that surrounded breakdowns.
07:12Working on her for so many years, she never gave a clue or information to us that I don't appreciate
07:21you guys. Leave me the F alone.
07:24What about when she said, leave me alone?
07:26It also casts a critical light on her father, portraying him as financially motivated, with insiders claiming he benefited from
07:33the conservatorship arrangement.
07:34By exposing these realities, the documentary changed how both fans and broader audiences saw Spears.

07:45people analyzing me every day and all that kind of stuff.

07:58Number 4. Amy
08:11Riveting and heartbreaking, Amy chronicles the life of British singer Amy Winehouse, who died at age 27 of alcohol poisoning.
08:18Using mostly unseen footage, the film explores how multiple forces, including substance use disorder, neglect, media pressure, and personal relationships,
08:27shaped her struggle and tragic end.
08:29If she had lived, I would have said, slow down. You're too important. Life teaches you really how to live
08:36it, if you could live long enough.
08:39His portrayal of the Winehouse family is particularly striking. It makes you wonder if they could have done more to
08:44help her, but didn't.
08:45The portrayal was so controversial that Amy's father, Mitch Winehouse, demanded edits, which are ultimately declined.
08:52I met another woman when Amy was about 18 months old. We worked together, we were having an affair, but
08:59another 8 or 9 years were to pass before I left home.
09:02Even Amy's ex-husband came under harsh scrutiny. Yet despite it all, Amy leaves something powerful behind.
09:07A portrait of the singer as a powerhouse, whose voice and spirit continue to resonate.

09:19Number 3. Biggie and Tupac
09:22And if you look really closely, you'll see the rarest of footage of Biggie and Tupac hugging on the edge
09:27of stage.
09:31Biggie and Tupac were street buddies.
09:34The deaths of Tupac Shakur and the notorious B.I.G. are among the most controversial deaths in pop culture.
09:39Tupac died in 1996, and Biggie followed six months later, with media framing the murders as the East Coast-West
09:46Coast feud.
09:46Nick Broomfield's documentary arrived in 2002, and challenged that narrative.
09:50So in order to throw the attention off Death Row Records, this man was killed.
09:55Next to what I'm saying, it was an East-West rivalry.
09:57Let's make it seem as if Bad Boy Records had something to do with the shooting of Tupac Shakur,
10:02which by no means whatsoever was remotely the case.
10:05Pointing fingers at Death Row Records' head, Suge Knight, it alleged a motive for killing Tupac and deliberate cover-up.
10:11The film also implicated corrupt LAPD officers, with insiders claiming key details were buried.
10:16The fact that law enforcement officers were working for gangsters, known felons, basically organized crime.
10:25Because it was no secret that Death Row Records was involved in drug trafficking.
10:32In 2021, Broomfield doubled down, releasing a follow-up that reinforced his belief that Knight was the shadow behind Tupac's
10:39death.
10:39Decades after Tupac's death, a gangster named Dwayne Davis has been charged for the murder.
10:44Was Broomfield wrong all along?
10:46Number 2. Surviving R. Kelly
10:48For decades, R. Kelly faced allegations of sexual abuse, but most cases didn't stick legally or faded under public scrutiny.
10:56It wasn't until Surviving R. Kelly that the story reached its tipping point.
10:59Part of me always felt like maybe I did something for him to treat me that way.
11:04I want my story to be heard so people could take this situation seriously.
11:08But when I found out it wasn't just me, I just don't want it to get any worse.
11:12Using archival footage, extensive survivor testimonies, and investigative reporting,
11:17it exposed patterns of abuse and exploitation that had long been scattered or ignored.
11:22He destroyed a lot of people.
11:26Destroyed a lot of people.
11:28A lot of people who loved and adored him.
11:30The impact was massive, as it revealed a dark side of a music icon many didn't know.
11:35But it didn't stop in just raising awareness.
11:37It sparked renewed legal scrutiny, and helped ensure that survivors' voices were finally taken seriously.
11:42He stole my life from me.
11:45Being abused like this.
11:48And I don't think he understands girls that are young, how impressionable we are,
11:53and how traumatic these experiences are.
11:55They change you forever.
11:57Ultimately, it played a key part in the downfall of R. Kelly.

12:51How much of it is true?
12:52That question continues to linger after leaving Neverland's stunned viewers in 2019.
12:57Long before this two-part documentary,
12:59Michael Jackson had already faced multiple allegations of sexual abuse of minors.
13:03But the two-part documentary reframed those allegations
13:06by presenting detailed, emotional accounts from alleged victims,
13:09particularly Wade Robson and James Safechuck.
13:12We had this mock wedding ceremony.
13:16We did this in his bedroom.
13:20And we, like, filled out some vows.
13:25It's like we're bonded forever.
13:26Notably, both men had previously defended Jackson under oath,
13:31a fact as a state used to strongly dispute the film.
13:33Even at that, leaving Neverland dealt Jackson's reputation a devastating blow.
13:37It raised suspicion that Neverland, long seen as a magical haven for kids,
13:42may have been a place of horror.
13:43For many viewers, it shattered the carefully constructed image Jackson maintained for decades.
13:48And I'm not taking anything away from Michael's talent as a superstar.
13:53But as a man, as a human being, he's hurt people.
