00:09The total number of active wildland fires in Ontario is now 191 which is seven more than
00:16yesterday. 73 of those are not under control, 91 are being observed, 12 are being held and 15 are
00:27under control. But isn't it, I find it a shame the administration in the US and Congress people
00:35writing these letters and blaming us and so on so forth, right? You don't get on and start threatening
00:41and criticizing because guess what? One day it's going to be your turn and we're going to be down
00:47there without hesitation to support our neighbours which we should be. But all the rhetoric going on
00:54there and it's not from all Americans. I'll tell you Americans love Canadians and Canadians love
01:00Americans. But to make the comments they did through the administration, unacceptable, absolutely
01:06unacceptable. We're trying to get through this and maybe I got an idea. I got an idea for President
01:12Trump. Why don't you get rid of the softwood lumber tariffs because 33% of the lumber that you use
01:21in
01:21your building, guess what? It comes from Canada. You want us to clear the forest? Well, open up the
01:27gates. Let's start shipping softwood lumber down there. And that would resolve a lot of the issues
01:33that we face right now. There is no limit to spending. And if it's $500 million this year, so be
01:43it.
01:43I've made clear direction to our ministers. I don't care what this costs. Number one, our priority is to
01:50protect the people. So it's absolutely disgusting in my opinion that they want to politicize and play
01:58games when people's lives are on the line. So I just want to be clear again, there is no limit
02:06to
02:07making sure that we support and save people. The short answer is there's much more favorable weather
02:14coming over through the weekend and into next week. Got a little bit of rain up here yesterday,
02:20which was good. What we really need to see is some of those sustained rains, but without the
02:24lightning strikes, because the overwhelming majority of fires that we're seeing now were actually caused
02:30by a storm that came through about a week ago, Sunday, Monday, Tuesday last week. So, you know,
02:37the weather can change, as we know. So I don't want to give a definitive yes, but things are trending
02:42in a very positive direction. Even over the last 24 hours, we've seen fire activity start to slow a
02:48little bit. The fires haven't been growing quite as fast as they have been over the last few days.
02:53Thank you, everybody. We really appreciate your time today. Thank you for coming.
02:56Thanks, everybody.
