00:00Today we're going to test this beauty right here, this sword called Gladius.
00:05It's a sword full of history. It was the main weapon used in ancient Rome by the gladiators.
00:11But what is a Gladius?
00:13Gladius basically, it's a short sword. As you can see, this one is not a long sword, it's a short
00:18sword.
00:19With a very thick and straight blade and with two edges.
00:22In other words, it's sharp on both sides as well as at the tip.
00:26It was developed to be a very fast and agile sword, specifically to make hand-to-hand combat easier.
00:33At the time when this sword was used, the Romans opponents were the barbarians who wore rather weak armor.
00:41Armor that wasn't very resistant.
00:43And that really justified the sword being this short.
00:46Because over time, as armor developed and became tougher and stronger,
00:51swords also had to improve and become longer in order to stab and pierce even the most resistant armor.
00:59As time went on and all that.
01:01And then cavalry came in and that's when cavalry started using longer swords.
01:05And then this little sword.
01:07The gladius here was set aside and became history.
01:10And that's the piece of history we're going to test in this video.
01:20So let's start our tests.
01:22I've prepared several objects, several really interesting targets.
01:26So we can test the strength of this object here.
01:28And to start off, nothing better than a little water bottle.
01:32Three, two, one, let's go.
01:35One, three, two, two.
01:40I didn't even really understand what happened.
01:42But look here, it's also a much more resistant bottle than regular pet.
01:46It has a much thicker plastic wall here.
01:48It hit here like this and broke some pieces, shattered others.
01:52We're off to a good start with these tests here.
01:55And I almost forgot this sword here was made by my friend, Professor Felipe Diniz.
02:00His channel is also here in the description.
02:02He also has a really cool channel about adventure mixed with comedy.
02:06He does a lot of interesting things there.
02:08It's worth checking out.
02:09So he decided to create this sword here and send it to us to test.
02:13He did some other tests besides the ones we're doing in today's video.
02:16So it's worth checking out.
02:18And as soon as this video ends, part two will be on his channel.
02:21I'll leave the link here in the description.
02:23The next target now is our test dummy, which is right here.
02:26Look, this is Alfred.
02:28And he's so cold that we put about 50 layers of t-shirts on him.
02:32Because one of the main functions of this weapon here,
02:35besides cutting on both sides, was also thrusting.
02:39It has a very firm tip and it was often used for thrusting.
02:42And then as soon as the tip went in, the edges, you know, the two sharp sides would already do
02:48a huge amount of damage.
02:49So we're going to try to reproduce this here on this mannequin.
02:53Let's see what happens.
02:54Are you scared?
02:55One, two, three.
02:56What happened here?
02:57It hit more or less here, pierced quite a bit, but this part ended up cushioning it.
03:02Let's try to hit the head and collarbone here on our buddy.
03:05Two, two, three.
03:07Oh!
03:08I missed here.
03:09I ended up hitting only the plastic.
03:10Let's try one more.
03:11Hold on.
03:12Hang in there, buddy.
03:13One, two, three.
03:15Oh!
03:15Look at what happened.
03:17We sliced through all the shirts, all the layers.
03:19It even got to the plastic part here.
03:21And look, we had a good thickness of shirts here to protect the dummy.
03:25For God's sake, this thing is absolutely brutal.
03:28Just so you have an idea, this is really tough.
03:30Take a look at this, huh?
03:34Look here.
03:35Does it look like paper?
03:37Man, it looks like it, right?
03:39Because it's so sharp that this cloth here turned into paper and still focusing on thrust with the sword.
03:44The next test I prepared here really cool is right here.
03:48Look, 50 layers of cardboard.
03:49As you can see here, we have more than 10 centimeters of cardboard stacked on top of each other.
03:55And now we're going to try to pierce, to stab here.
03:57Will it go through?
03:58I'm curious.
03:59One, two, three, and stab it.
04:00It's stuck.
04:01It's already turned into King Arthur's sword.
04:03Stuck in...
04:03Well, it can't be King Arthur, right?
04:05That was the medieval age.
04:07We're in another era now.
04:08A more Roman era.
04:09Let me take this out so we can see.
04:11I'll try one more time because I want it to go through.
04:14I think this time it went further, huh?
04:16It still didn't go through either.
04:18I can't get it all the way to the end.
04:20Wait, now I think it worked.
04:22It went through.
04:22We reached our goal.
04:24Now, did King Arthur finally manage to pull the sword from the stone?
04:27I don't think so, huh?
04:31Named here, O King of Rome, the rat gnawed the clothes of the King of Rome.
04:36Now, I want to test the blade and the sharpness of the gladius here.
04:39I prepared a piece of wood.
04:41We're going to try to slice it, split it in half here, break it completely.
04:46Let's see if this is going to work.
04:47One, two, three, and...
04:50The blow didn't split it all the way through in one go.
04:54Let's see if we can finish this here.
04:57And...
05:00To finish, look, it really cuts, huh?
05:03We needed a few strikes, of course, but everything went as expected.
05:07The important thing is that it managed to cut even this wood well.
05:10It's a very hard, very sturdy wood.
05:11And take a look at what the sword looks like.
05:14It's still intact.
05:15Perfect.
05:16Nothing happened to the blade.
05:17We can see that the edge didn't get any chips, which means its tempering is extremely well done.
05:23Everything is still well aligned here.
05:25So far, this sword here, look, gets a 10.
05:28What I can notice is just what I'm filming.
05:30I'm not even looking, but it seems like it also has a really strong impact.
05:33It's not just that it cuts.
05:35Exactly.
05:35It's heavy.
05:36Hold it here so you can see.
05:37Look, hey.
05:37Man, this must weigh at least, I don't know, about three kilos.
05:40Yeah.
05:40Yeah.
05:40Maybe a little less than that.
05:42The sword is really heavy, which helps with the strike since you don't need to use much force.
05:47Its own weight already helps a lot in the strike to destroy more objects.
05:51Now we're going to thrust this sword into a car seat.
05:55Do you think we can pierce it?
05:56Behind the seat here, we have a piece of wood, so if we manage to pierce it, we'll be able
06:01to see it go through and everything.
06:03Let's see what happens.
06:04One, two, three, and...
06:06Nice.
06:07Wow.
06:07Check it out on the other side.
06:09For sure.
06:10And it's stuck in the tree.
06:12Went through this really easily.
06:13Come see up here.
06:15Nuno and this little part, this little cushion here.
06:17Wow.
06:18It breaks in the middle.
06:18Let's see.
06:19Will it?
06:20Bro, we cut it.
06:21There's something in the middle.
06:23I was curious about that too.
06:24Right?
06:24Wow.
06:25Look how cool.
06:25I was really curious to know what was inside here.
06:27There's a piece of plastic.
06:29There's some foam that's already really dried out from being in the sun for years.
06:32And there's a piece of plastic here on the inside that makes it stiffer, harder.
06:37If you're protected behind a car seat and a sword is coming your way, what we're going
06:41to do now is test its edge to see if it's really sharp.
06:45I prepared a double sisal rope here to make things harder, even more challenging.
06:49And we're going to try with a strike to slice it and one, two, three, and...
06:56I put so much force thinking there would be some resistance and I didn't feel anything.
07:01The strike was extremely smooth.
07:02The sword sliced right through here.
07:04There was no resistance from the rope at all.
07:06I put in so much force that it was even unnecessary.
07:09I almost fell forward from using so much strength, but the important thing is that it cut in a
07:13spectacular way.
07:14In other words, this sword cuts.
07:16Now let's move on to a slightly more complicated challenge for our blade, which will be a water
07:22bottle, but this time frozen solid.
07:24We froze the water.
07:25We froze the water, right?
07:27Exactly.
07:27We froze the water.
07:29And we're going to leave it inside the bottle and give it a good hit to see if it will
07:33break,
07:34if it will cut, what will happen.
07:35All good?
07:36Two, three, and...
07:39Part two, okay?
07:40Two, three, and...
07:42Hey, hold on.
07:44Put it back here on the other side now.
07:46Go ahead.
07:46That's good.
07:53Now from top to bottom.
07:56Oh!
07:56It snowed here, right here in Brazil.
07:59A snowstorm.
08:00See?
08:01Who said it doesn't snow in Brazil?
08:03And the cool thing is that this time we left the plastic with the ice, so it was much more
08:07resistant.
08:07The ice got compacted here.
08:09The inside part probably didn't freeze, right?
08:11All of this here.
08:12But we managed to break the bottle here.
08:14We crushed the ice into several pieces.
08:16Let's do a headshot here.
08:17Three, and...
08:20This ice bottle was one of the coolest and most satisfying objects I've ever destroyed.
08:24But now, to finish with a bang, I have quite a challenge for this gladius here, which is
08:29nothing more, nothing less than a coconut.
08:32So, Professor Denise, this is the ultimate test for your blade, huh?
08:36Approved or not approved?
08:37Now's the time.
08:41Wow, man.
08:43I'll even save you a little bit of this water.
08:46The post-video refreshment is guaranteed.
08:49We basically sliced the whole coconut in half.
08:52There's a quarter of the coconut left, but I want to finish it.
08:55We tested against the grain.
08:57Now, let's try with the grain to see what difference it makes.
09:00Technically, it should be easier, right?
09:03Let's see.
09:03Two, three, and...
09:05Oh my!
09:06This time, it just split the coconut in half.
09:08No difference at all.
09:09It was Dadio.
09:10The first strike, we went against the grain.
09:12It stopped here, almost at the end.
09:14But with the grain, my friend, there was nothing left of the coconut.
09:17Look, it passed.
09:19I don't even know if that's even the right word for this sword, because I think it went
09:23beyond that.
09:24Simply one of the craziest things I've ever tested here on the channel.
09:28Now, let's go to the final thoughts regarding the targets we tested.
09:32All of them were completely destroyed.
09:35The sword, its edge is still very sharp.
09:38There are no signs of deformation.
09:40The sword didn't bend, so the sword won.
09:42I really enjoyed it, and I'd even like you to comment here on which target you thought
09:46was the coolest in this video, in your opinion.
09:48Leave it here in the comments, because I want to know.
09:50If you want new tests with this sword here too, just leave it in the comments.
09:54Subscribe to the channel, it helps me a lot.
09:56We're in this together.
09:57Leave your like, and see you in the next video.
09:59Thanks, see you, take care, and bye!
