00:00Just breathing the air today could be like smoking up to 13 cigarettes, all because smoke from Canadian wildfires is
00:05pushing air quality into unhealthy and even dangerous levels across parts of the Great Lakes and Northeast. Now, some people
00:11say they can actually taste the smoke. That bitter, kind of metallic or barbecue-like flavor actually comes from tiny
00:17wildfire smoke particles irritating your nose and mouth. So when does it improve? Well, it already has from Boston to
00:23New York City today, and a storm system moving through Saturday should clear much of the smoke from the Northeast
00:28by Sunday.
00:29It gets worse, though, before it gets better. The thickest smoke Saturday stretches from northeastern Minnesota all the way down
00:35through Green Bay, Syracuse, and Boston. Now, those same storms could also bring damaging winds, flash flooding, and even a
00:41few tornadoes. By Sunday, the Northeast is mostly left with haze, while the thickest smoke shifts south of the fires
00:46towards Green Bay and Chicago. And get used to it. Episodes of smoke and haze are likely to continue at
00:51least through August.
