00:28They've just won a glorious victory over the Stanford University boys in the annual Rose Bowl tournament, and they're on
00:33the one and allowed to celebrate.
00:34And who do you think is on hand to welcome them?
00:36None other than Busby Berkeley's dancing cuties who took time out from their work on the Wonder Bar set to
00:40greet the gang.
00:41To the victors go the hugs and the kisses and all those boys taking it big.
00:44It's a good thing the score was only seven to nothing. Imagine what these girls would have done for a
00:48score like 21 to nothing.
00:50There's Captain Cliff Montgomery getting his share of the spoils, and Bashful Brabus, the fellow who scored the only touchdown
00:55of the game.
00:56Boy, it's a great day for these fighting lions from New York.
00:59The gang loses no time in making Ginger its mascot.

02:04Although the game was played in a sea of mud and a torrent of rain,

02:15And since President Roosevelt has raised the price of it to almost double of what it was a year ago,
02:19old-timers are trekking to the hills of California again.
02:21This mine is only a short distance from Hollywood,
02:24and Dick Powell, Margaret Lindsay, and Guy Kibbe have dropped in to see if it is really true
02:27that all is gold that glitters in the pay dirt.
02:30The best way to get gold out of the earth is to get yourself a pick and shovel,
02:33take off your coat, and start digging.
02:35What poise! What rhythm! What nonsense!
02:39After you've gone to all the trouble to get a wheelbarrow full of dirt,
02:42you've got to wheel it to the nearest river to find out if you've been digging in the right place.

02:47It doesn't cost much to start a gold mine.
02:49All you need is a few sticks of wood, a couple of nails,
02:52your grandmother's washtub, and a big garbage pail, and you're in business.
02:55This mine goes 70 feet straight down into the earth.
02:59A few miles from here, a fellow started digging a hole like this in January,
03:02and after months of hard labor, he found he had dug his way right into May West Boudoir.
03:07You see, success comes easy to some folks.
03:10With a good-looking girl like Margaret Lindsay on the job,
03:13it's surprising these boys can keep their minds on their work.
03:15But Guy Kibbe's wife has ordered a new armor and wrap,
03:17and he has to keep digging, or else.
03:20That contraption Dick Powell is rocking is called a cradle.
03:23As he throws the water over the dirt, the stones and sand are washed away,
03:26and the gold falls through the wire screen onto a little ledge.
03:29The next step is panning, and here's where grandmother's washed-up comes in handy.
03:33After a hard day's work, you might get enough gold to fill the cavity the dentist warned you about,
03:39if you're lucky.
03:40Well, anyhow, these tender feet have at least worked up an appetite,
03:43and they're going to enjoy a big lunch of roasted frankfurters, canned beans, coffee, apple pie, and nuts.
03:50Here's Joan Blundell, back before the cameras again,
03:53fully recovered from her recent illness that kept her away from the studio for over a month.
03:56She's one of Hollywood's best-loved stars, and everyone is happy to see her up and around again.

04:11Hugh Herbert has played leads opposite many famous stage and screen stars,
04:15but for the first time in his career, he plays opposite a sheep in Merry Wives of Reno.
04:18It took months to train this sheep to follow Huey, and it's going to take months to untrain it.
04:22Nearly everyone in the studio calls it Eloise, but Hugh says its real name is Elmer.
04:27The little lamb that Mary had had nothing on the one that Huey has.
04:31He can't even go to lunch without being followed by Eloise or Elmer.
04:34If he isn't nice and kind to the animal, it won't do what he wants it to do in the
04:37picture.
04:38Now, is that nice, asks Huey, spoiling a fellow's lunch?
04:41And Eloise, having gone Hollywood in a big way, nods yes.

04:46Hal Leroy, young Broadway musical comedy star, arrives in Hollywood to play the screen lead in Harold Teen
04:51and is immediately cornered by the still photographer.
04:53Donald Woods, one of the screen's newest stars, comes over to say hello.
04:57Frank McHugh steps up, too.
04:58They've all got their signals mixed.
05:00And Buddy, the big bulb and flashlight man, is gradually going crazy,
05:03trying to get a good shot of Hal.
05:05Patricia Ellis, who plays opposite Leroy in Harold Teen,
05:07greets him in the good old Hollywood manner
05:09and drags him off to rehearse the songs in the picture
05:11with those two popular songwriters, Irving Kale and Sammy Fane.
